I'm definitely glad I went AD. I don't have the money, job (i.e. having to find/keep a civ job also...obviously is N/A for some, but still stands for many), insurance, etc. things to worry about. AD also offers things you either won't or have a very small chance of experiencing if you start out in the Guard. I have one job (well, one paycheck anyways) and don't have to worry about being able to support my family on that one pay check if needed. My friends in the guard can't say the same...self-admitted. However, I sure as hell won't scoff the guard as it offers it's own unique experiences and a way of doing things. I've talked with countless dudes who started out AD, went guard at some point in their career and have enjoyed every minute of each. I think the "grass is greener" syndrome applies 100% of the time to the AD/Guard discussion.

I will say flight time helps in UPT to an extent, however I think a Super Decathlon is too much for a new guy. Yes, you should do the standard Cessna/Piper gig and then when you get your PPL, go get the tailwheel sign-off and some aerobatic training (why else would you fly a SD anyways). Not to mention I"m sure the SD is a lot more money than the 172 and since there's only one, it's going to be a bigger PITA to schedule. It just doesn't make sense to try and get your PPL on the SD.

OTS requires you to graduate college (or I think be within 6 months of a degree to apply), then get accepted and even then still get a pilot slot. The odds are much less compared to ROTC. Getting a slot through ROTC generally is not that difficult provided you put the effort in, get good grades and don't get arrested. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing. I know there are many people who are happy having gone to the guard, OTS, etc. I'm just telling you what has worked for a large portion of the pilot force. OTS and guard guys are definitely a far lower number. It's simple math.

You think LM would learn, considering the price was a major factor in killing the F-22 numbers. Better to sell more at a lower price than far fewer at a high price (obviously past a certain point).

Your chances of flying are much higher in ROTC than they are in OTS. I would have liked to avoid ROTC and do 12 weeks of Maxwell and call it good. However, less time in that gay training environment wasn't worth the lower chance of getting a pilot slot.

You never know if you don't try. I saw dudes get kicked out of ROTC for admitting they smoked any MJ. Then, there's been dudes who said they smoked it 15 times in high school and were fine. Like many things in the AF, it all goes in waves....depends on how badly the AF needs officers in your year group. Sometimes even just 6 months can make all the difference in getting the boot vs. staying in. If you really want to fly, then go for it. I do not believe you have to give up your Canadian citizenship to be in ROTC. Your TS clearance stuff isn't till your junior or senior year...so if you can just get into ROTC, admit it and they keep you, then you know you'll be fine and give up your Canadian citizenship when the time comes.

It is uncommon, but does happen. I know of one couple in that situation and honestly it wasn't a big deal. He was good dude and hung out at parties, going out to bars, etc. No, he didn't go to any spouses stuff...but that'd be super gay if he did. Also if you're talking kids in the future, you want to figure that out sooner rather than later. He may not be OK with being stay-at-home dad while you go fly jets. He can find work just like any other spouse. It may not be a typical arrangement, but it's certainly not impossible.

Look up Blackra1n and follow the instructions; it's incredibly easy. You can still sync with itunes like normal, just don't accept any software updates (until the new software version is jailbroken), i.e. if you jailbreak at 3.0.2, don't let itunes update you to 3.0.3 until that version is jailbroken. Usually you won't have to worry about it that much unless you really have a hard on (sts) for having the most up-to-date version.
