  1. Maybe that was one of the LSI guys who flies his 152 to initial and breaks at the local airport. Seriously, that's great you flew the eagle 20 yrs ago, but let it go dude.
  2. Wow. I'm impressed you haven't walked over to their "RAPCON" and started beating people w/ their own limbs. I sure can't wait for foreign controllers.
  3. Nice.
  4. Isn't the Vne on the t-6 315 kts? How the hell did he get that fast before recovering? Either way, that's complete BS and I hope someone saves him from getting completely screwed over.
  5. Ever see a guy over-g on a solo O&B? Yeah.......he'll be fine.
  6. Just got a RIP to start May 09...graduated Jan 08. Yeah it sucks, but as long as I make it to Luke and get to fly a Viper, I'll still be pretty damn happy. A lot better than other alternatives if you ask me.
  7. That makes sense. Biggest thing was that nothing is like the "real AF" (ROTC, AFA, OTS), so it shouldn't be expected as such. I'm sure the AFA is definitely more "military" than ROTC. My opinion is that you have at least 4 yrs, maybe 20 yrs of the real deal ahead of you, why not enjoy college and get to the "real thing" when you do? Sure you can play Air Force 24/7 at AFA, but why is that a good thing? Also on another note (in general, not directed at you Yerfer), there are douche bags from every school and every commissioning source. So to anyone deciding on what program to do, don't try to do one so you can avoid all "the gay ROTC nazis" or all "those socially inept zoomies." There's cool dudes and retards everywhere.
  8. It is coincidence. Going to the AFA or XXX school doesn't make you a good pilot, your personal ability does, not to mention luck and timing (which also has nothing to do w/ what school you went to). I respect your opinion, but whip should remember he has the rest of his life to "play real AF." Assuming a full career, you'll have 20 yrs of the "real" AF, so it's weak at best to say the AFA is better b/c it's "real" military...which I can only imagine it is nothing close to the real thing; neither is ROTC obviously. That's a big one. Just b/c one det is incredibly retarded doesn't mean every one is. Find a group of people you like in ROTC and associate w/ them...there will be idiots, avoid them except when necessary. That goes for everywhere, not just ROTC.
  9. If you can keep a 3.0 GPA or higher, run 1.5 mi in under 12 min and have the ability to not piss off the wrong people, you'll very likely get a rated slot through ROTC. It really is not that hard, or at least sure as hell is not nearly as hard as people who haven't done it make it out to be. Basically, don't discount ROTC as an option b/c you think you won't get a slot out of there. I also agree w/ applying to both. If you get a scholarship for ROTC and accepted to AFA, then great, you at least have some great options.
  10. Make the decision based on what type of college experience you want. You can get a pilot slot out of both sources w/ some effort. I think going to the AFA b/c "it has more pilot slots" is a stupid reason by itself. Go there b/c that's the experience you want. Hundreds of guys every year get pilot slots out of ROTC w/ a FAR less amount of asspain than their USAFA counterparts. But in the end, you need to figure out what you see as being a good 4 yrs of college, something you can look back on and be glad you did it that way. There is far more to college than wearing a cheap business suit (read AF service dress) and marching around at 6am on Saturdays, but that's just my opinion.
  11. Glasses don't physically touch your eyes like contacts do. So even knowing nothing about this stuff, I think it's a safe assumption to say glasses will not affect your eyes like contacts since there is no physical contact (in the sense that Brooks is concerned with).
  12. I'm wondering if during RTU at Luke I'll have the time/energy to go skydive at Eloy on the weekends? I'm trying to decide if keeping all my gear is worth it or if realistically I won't really jump all that often. If I just end up going once every couple months or so, then I'd rather just sell my stuff and rent when I go. Has anyone here gone to Luke who skydives? Even if you don't skydive, what is/was your impression of time available on weekends? I'm wondering if I'll be slammed (sts) on Sundays w/ studying like UPT Phase II (or worse) and/or be so tired that a drive up to Eloy plus jumping all day just won't happen that often. Thoughts? EDIT: I suck, thanks for moving this whoever did.
  13. Agree w/ Riddler and Techsan. Don't take the earliest class and get married during Phase II. 4 weeks in, you're going to be very tired, stressed and in no mood for a wedding and even the slightest amount of work for it. Do both of you a favor and get married during Phase I.
  14. 2. You may not have sat a 12 hr watch, but I bet you've sat in the flightroom for a 12 hr day when it was too shitty wx to fly. The flightsuit is comfortable, but has no "use" when you're sitting on your ass reading books, watching computer screens, etc. People who think everyone should wear flightsuits are just idiots. I hope you kicked him right in the nuts.

I completely forgot about that one...hilarious!
  16. You owe 10 yrs post winging and that's it AFAIK.
  17. I don't know what the specifics are, but I doubt a 38 "TX" is any less than a 38 "re-qual" (which if I'm thinking correctly is the same thing said differently). Point is, you'd have to teach a heavy guy from square 1 how to fly a 38, where as the 38-trained guy has to just get back on the horse kind of thing...just like every T-6 FAIP does who goes to a fighter. And yes I know the heavy guy would have been flying a real airplane which does make a difference, but there's still a vast difference b/w flying a 38 and the type of flying that follows and the type of flying that follows a T-1. Not saying guys don't have the ability to x-flow, but that difference would have to be accounted for.
  18. Hahaha. Dude, don't you know the greatest "fighter pilot" to ever live flies the U-28? (inside joke everyone else).
  19. Good point on the chances. At least if you go T-1s you've still got a pretty good shot at not getting a UAV, but I heard pretty much what you posted in the UAV thread, so chances are going to be "good" on the 38 side to get one. Sucks...I can definitely understand your thought process on the whole track select thing.
  20. If that's true about the Tones getting UAVs, then I foresee helos and 44s becoming very popular.
  21. I suspect once the UAV bomb is dropped, there's going to be a big push to avoid 38s. There will always be at least one or two guys who are die-hard fighter and want to at least take the chance, but I bet we stop seeing classes of 5+ guys wanting 38s really soon. In my friend's class there's 5 dudes that want helos. He said it sounds like most are changing their mind about 38s, including him.
  22. You can't go to your first squadron and tell the CC they have to put up cameras. You also aren't going to get very far if you say you can't do your job b/c you refuse to turn a light switch or something along those lines. I know you're saying there's ways around it, but the problem I'm seeing is "there's a way around it" is adding up and up...which will lead to your CC telling you to suck it up and just do your job. I can just about promise you there will be a point after you comission where you will be forced to break a religious rule (even something as simple as using a computer plugged into the wall). If you're not ready to deal w/ that kind of stuff, then you need to find another line of work. Is there a way for a Rabbi to give you a sort of "blanket" OK to do these types of things considering its for the military and defense of the country? I guarantee you the Israelis work 24/7 in the government, military, etc. They don't take Fri night - Sat night off. So if they can do that, then I think you can too.
  23. Like the Aero phys guys say, a shorter, more "built" guy will handle Gs better. That makes sense. However, I've seen skinny bean pole guys handle Gs better than a shorter, stockier guy. At the fuge the first time they showed us a video of some dude who was like 6 ft something and could not GLOC...he'd just sit there talking at 9 Gs and be completely fine...WTFO! So really it all just depends on YOUR body and how it adapts. But, obviously working out makes a big difference. Lower body is where it's at, lifting upper will do pretty much zero for Gs (except for abs).
  24. Question, why can't you even talk directly to women? Obviously just talking to a woman doesn't mean you're automatically hitting on her, seeking to date her, etc. So why would it be an issue to fly w/ a female A/C (example stated above)? Does being an Orthodox Jew basically bar you from talking to women except those in your family?
