I think they're $15 or so. I never did it b/c like others said, the card sucks. In your case, just sign up and cancel ASAP after the reception. Also, just don't actually buy anything on the card, that way you won't forget to pay it off and then owe 20% interest or something insane like that.

My flight cc at ASBC was an orthodox jew and was Acquisitions before he was an ASBC instructor (why the hell you'd want to do that I have no idea). I asked him about it out of curiosity and he said for the most part he had been accommodated pretty well. Secondly, you said you don't have a desire to do anything flying wise, so the comments above about hanging out for roll calls and at the bar on Friday night, etc. probably won't apply to you much, if at all. So, outside a deployed environment or exercise, you can pretty much count on a standard 9-430 M-F job. Some jobs will differ on that, but a lot of the support jobs (Finance, MPF, Services, etc) work those hours (or at least they claim to!).

I've always heard guard/reserve guys have to be in the top 50% of their class in Phase II to continue to 38s. So yes, your MASS does matter (as long as what I've read/been told is still true). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That's just a case of "shit happens." Some IPs grade harder/easier than others. One stud gets the hard check pilot while the other gets the easy check pilot (sts). Some fly an important ride on a perfect day while another has to deal w/ bad weather and a SOF wx recall (SA gone), etc. It's happened since day one of UPT's existence and should be accepted as part of the deal. Don't complain or use stuff like that as excuses; there's no such thing as one person getting "screwed" by stuff like this and another not. Everyone has to deal w/ this kind of stuff at points, so who cares, it's all fair in the end. The phrase, roll with the punches, is the best way to look at UPT.

We were shown the exact thing Franchise posted back in T-6s prior to track. So that's the math you should go by, but like Tweet said, FC ranking can make a big difference, even though it's "only" 20%. If the FC ranks you high and your grades aren't in the shitter (which they're most likely not if you're ranked highly to begin with), then you'll probably get what you want. You can have good scores and a low FC ranking and you will probably not get what you want. I saw both situations when I went through UPT...the guys who worked hard, helped others, volunteered for stuff, etc. had a better relationship w/ the IPs and thusly were ranked higher. The FC will usually try to hook up the studs he saw working hard and helping others.

It's the same way in skydiving...the group that has a lot of experience is the one w/ the highest amount of fatalities. I guess you start pushing it b/c you think you have the skills/ability to do so.

Welcome to the club. It was kind of annoying both $ rides when absolutely nothing "memorable" happened. Still, you'll think of something, even if it comes 1 week prior to graduation (sts).

From the article - "Right now, no one is saying what may have caused the crash, but we can only assume strong winds may have contributed to the crash." And I assume you have expertise in the aviation field and thus can make accurate assumptions about crashes. Jackass media. Glad the pilots are ok.

Definitely a cool job and very rewarding I'm sure, but flying is my thing and I don't think I could see myself seriously doing the PJ type thing. It's way too much for someone who doesn't have 100% of their heart in it.

You can check guns on any airline. You just need to declare it, have it in a locked case and not have any ammo in the same bag. Secondly, HI does not have CCW for all intensive purposes, so you're SOL.

Several missed opportunities. U for SA. I doubt it. It's not like it's unsafe to jump out of a plane just b/c you use or have used tobacco products. As toro said a couple posts up, its standard AF to ask this kind of thing and then give you a health lecture. On one hand I really doubt it makes a difference, on the other hand you can say "no" (there isn't any physical exam, tests, etc. for Free Fall). But, that decision is up to you.

All of us in our group wore flightsuits, w/ some of us wearing gortex pants over them purely for waterproof purposes. It's really not a big deal wearing a flightsuit...and that's when there was 6ft of snow and it still snowing, so really, no reason to wear BDUs.

All true words boom. Hell, my neighbor is a Comm guy and he's a really great guy who I have no doubt gets the job done right. But as you said, the number of "good" support staff seems to be dwindling. My 2 yrs in is in no way an accurate overall picture of the support fields, but at least from my small point of view, they are sub-standard at their jobs. I have worked with one NCO in finance who seems to know his shit, but he's the only one apparently. So yes, there are good people out there, it's just too bad they're in the minority.

I think that's what pisses me off the most. The majority of the time I go in there, whether to just file a voucher or to ask questions/fix a problem, the staff (ranging from A1C up to SSgt) act annoyed at best that I'm there. A few times it was obvious I rudely interrupted their watching-videos-session or their tetris. The fact they don't want to lift a finger to do their own damn job is despicable and the reason I don't trust or like any of those asshats over there.

Mine were all screwed up for about 2 weeks after a trip to HI where I did some diving. To tell you the truth I just rode it out and it eventually cleared up. If you think it might be allergies, try taking some Benedryl and see if that helps; it's worked for me in the past.

True, what you do does have an affect on everyone. Wrong. What we do is why the AF even exists in the first place. It's not called the Finance Force or the Services Force or the Engineering Force for a reason. All those mentioned are important parts of the AF and absolutely necessary, but the "point" of the AF is what's happening in the skies (and I'll admit....space). Support is crucial no doubt, but to say flying only affects those of us who do it is a very misguided statement. Under that argument I should have "a clue" about how a firefighter does his job (never know when I might have to rely on a firefighter and he just doesn't know how to do a portion of his job) or how Dish Network's equipment works (b/c I'd be pissed if I missed Lost!). The point is, just b/c someone's job performance or lack there of affects me does not mean I should or even have the time to learn even a small part of their job's specifics. Now, unfortunately Vance Finance's extreme ineptitude has forced me to learn some stuff. However, I should never have had to based on the simple fact that they should know how to do their job or have the common courtesy to find someone who does know. This is not directed at you Finance Guy (as you seem to have your shit in a sock), but as a generality, why the hell is it acceptable for all these support fields (finance, MPF, services, etc) to not know what the hell they're doing and fuck it away on a daily basis? I know for a fact if I had performed in UPT like I've seen people in these offices, I wouldn't have made it to T-6 solo. These people wonder why pilots/navs hate them and think they suck ass...well it's b/c first they do suck ass, and 2nd we all know what it means to put 100% effort into something and always strive for perfection, the shoes don't seem to understand that concept one bit.

You don't have to know how to fly a perfect 6K Offensive for 2, but come on financeguy, at least have a clue on it! That statement doesn't make sense, does it? So NO, I should not have to know a single thing about finance/MPF/any other job on base b/c it's NOT my job, just like flying a 6K offensive is NOT your job. I think I just simplified what T-bone was getting at...correct me if I'm wrong T-Bone.

Damn, wish I would have thought of that. Undoing those frozen knots at midnight sucks! That's the way it's been for a while AFAIK. All of us were paired w/ "like" roommates (i.e. rated O's). It really isn't that bad and there's a safe in each room that you can put all your valuables in while your away (just uses a 4 digit pin you set).
-
Happened to me twice and several other times to other dudes. Guess they just don't make that 38 canopy seal like they used to! So yeah, chances are far better than "slim."

No one's called him out on it?
-
Maybe that rule only applies to ejection seat a/c? Just a guess.

It was very well done and it was awesome to see how many people cared about those two guys. It was definitely really hard going up there in front of my friend's picture and saluting him for the last time...something I hope I never have to do again, but who knows in this business. Godspeed to both.

Copy. I hadn't heard the 30 Jun thing. Not that I wasn't going to do it, just hasn't been high on the priority list.
-
Gotcha. Depending on how long we're down, this could end up helping the log jam. Good point.

It's still in my list of "To do" on ADLS, and of course it was put there the day after I get back from Fairchild. So if it's in my list, I assume we still have to do it. That said, I plan on waiting till the last sec.
