  1. So if you go to Korea, you can bring your family on your own dime, but they lose tricare/family benefits while in Korea? So point is you need to have private healthcare for them if deciding to do this?
  2. There's the key...as long as you can do ROTC for 3 yrs, you should be fine...just like downbeat said. Do whatever you can to start next semester, then since it's going to take you 3 yrs anyways, there won't be any problem.
  3. So you can't do it FOR SURE this semester? I guess I can't see what could possibly keep you from doing it this semester vs. next semester, but I suppose there's always the possibility of something that extenuating (sp?). If you absolutely cannot get into it this semester, you certainly can start next semester (Spring 07) and be just fine. However, think of next semester as your ABSOLUTE LAST CHANCE to 1) Do ROTC and 2) Have a shot at flying for the Air Force (yes that's not entirely true, but think that way and it might help you have that extra drive). I would do all you could to handle ROTC this semester in conjunction w/ your family issues...plus why is it that family issues preclude you from being able to handle ROTC this semester, but not next semester? I don't think family issues are a timed thing...who knows when they'll subside.
  4. If you actually want to be a pilot, do 4 yrs of ROTC, or the bare minimum: 3. If you're already a junior, then pick up another major or a masters that will keep you in ROTC/college for 3-4 yrs. If you're only a freshman/sophomore, stop being lazy and get your ass in ROTC so you have a shot at pilot.
  5. Damn, what a total douche nozzle. Did you ever call the guy's sup and tell him the deal...hopefully that POS at least got fired, but something tells me the bullshit US legal system once again did absolutely nothing good. Dude, you should be fine...it's obvious this whole incident was merely a disagreement and you didn't even hit the dude, you just brushed his hand or whatever. You didn't beat him, you didn't try, end of story. You'll be good to go...but don't seal it, like others said, makes it look like you really have something to hide - in this case I wouldn't hide any of this, all it demonstrates is what a fag this post office douche was.
  6. Just go in on Mon, or if you get there and feel like going in on Fri you could do that too. Like WSO said, I think that just means you need to be in the area (i.e. billeting) before Sun. I just went in on Fri (I had a RNLT Sat) and got some crap done, I wasn't doing shit else anyways.
  7. I've been told by 3 or 4 life support people that steel toe boots ARE NOT authorized to fly in b/c the steel could melt to your feet in case of a fire...something you don't want - at least that's the AF's opinion on the matter.
  8. And on the PT gear note, get the freakin PTs issued to you before you commission...I was too lazy/busy to do so and had to buy some out of pocket...fvcking PTs.
  9. Just buy what you need (assuming you haven't destroyed them in the past 4 years). Going out and spending twice the money for new uniforms is retarded unless you have no choice (b/c you destroyed your ROTC issued ones). I've seen some dudes return perfectly good uniforms and spend 500 bucks on new stuff...I spent 120 bucks or so.
  10. Or you could always work your ass off to get in the top few of the class and get 38s...not to mention you never know what your class will be like, some classes the majority of the guys want something other than 38s. You never know unless you work hard and try, right? A winning attitude could make a big difference.
  11. Tell him to do what he feels is the best thing to do...no one on here is going to give you the answer that he's probably hoping you'll get - "just don't put it down, they'll never know. It's not a big deal." He should do what he thinks is best; I'm not persuading you to tell him to do one thing or the other. It could end his career, but on the other hand it was once and they may look past it as long as he admits he was stupid and won't do it again. Then again if he has to explain he got completley black out drunk while doing it, that's 2 BIG PROBLEMS (in their eyes) in one swoop. Use judgement, everyone's got at least some.
  12. Doesn't sim time count as total time, but not as PIC/SIC time? I'm not sure, and far too lazy to open the FAR/AIM.
  13. no, you're not at the controls (regardless of manipulation or not).
  14. My money's on what ego said...don't count on it before late 2006 at the earliest. But if it actually does come before the end of fall semester, xmas come early!
  15. I commissioned 12 May this year, got married a week later, went on a 1.5 week honeymoon and then left 2 days later for ASBC. I'm now casual at Vance until starting in January. My advice would be to move the wedding up. Yes it's busy, but we managed with both of us graduating(me commissioning obviously) a week before the wedding and everything still worked well. He may not have to go anywhere until mid Jul, but he MAY have to go somewhere Jun 28th or whatever, better to play it safe and move the wedding up. If you do the wedding a week after commissioning, you should be 98% safe, three weeks out is gambling.
  16. Why exactly would you rather fly IFR unless there were actual IMC concerns? In GA, it's useful on those days/nights, but if I don't have to, screw it, I'm flying VFR. EDIT: If flying into crowded areas (i.e. Vegas, LA, etc) then IFR makes it easier, but otherwise... [ 19. July 2006, 20:43: Message edited by: brabus ]
  17. Stuck at Maxwell and you hadn't thought of it...come on man, think we're stupid? :D
  18. Don't worry about it...you're on your own computer outside of any specific govt intranet. I wouldn't bring your laptop to the flight room and hook it up and go wherever (b/c you'd be on an intranet), but in your room, it's fine. You can go to ebaums, porn, who gives a shit...just keep it off the intranet.
  19. Just taking a guess here, but I'd bet you'd be home about .5% of the time.
  20. What's wrong HD? If that's not the most impressive shit I've ever seen, then I don't know what is!
  21. See if you can get any local FBOs to cut members deals on rentals/training. That's always a good way for them to get new people to take shitloads of money from while the members can at least save some cash on dues, hour rates, gas, etc.
  22. So my wife and I are gonna catch a bunch of shit at Vance because either I or both of us come home wasted? And then to top it off we'll be "the bad guys" because we have people over and get drunk in the backyard? What a bunch of shit. Hopefully we don't have douche bag neighbors, but if they're like what you said, they can go to hell; I'll get extra drunk just for them! And for the record: This is at least one married guy whose wife completely supports his drinking. Nothing like a couple pitchers and some jack and coke the night before 630 Icarus...God I hate ASBC, can't wait for SOS (is there a put gun to your mouth icon?) [ 16. 23. Talked to my NCO today...apparently most of us (FY06) grads will be technically commissioned as reserve, but when we get to our first base (i.e. ASBC for many of us) they will submit corrections and our commissions will be changed into regular ones. So don't be alarmed b/c commissioning paperwork at the Det says reserve...it'll all be changed here in a few months.
  24. Our NCOs told us the same thing...Waller, you may have still had "Reserve Commission" on your certificate because they didn't have enough time to print up new ones before commissioning. Our NCOs have the "Reserve Commission" certificates for us and are trying to get the "Regular Commission" ones, but if they haven't already gotten them (I don't know) then we're using the other ones at commissioning and will receive the regular ones in the mail. But yes, this is 100% confirmed about regular commissions.
  25. Which finance/personnel people do I talk to to get DLA...I'm going TDY to ASBC enroute to Vance, so do I call the guys at Maxwell or Vance before I move?
