I did have a wing/cc once who said everyone who gets an incentive ride will shadow the entire 12 hr day prior for mission planning, etc. And on execution day would be there the entire 12 hr day. For all the time they couldn’t be with the pilots due to lack of vault access, they would shadow the SARMs, AFE, go out on the flight line with MX, etc. 2x 12 hr “average days” was a massive eye opener for everyone who went through.

So they ask about the grass instead. Ultimately your rated leadership failure is happening at the O7+ level. Of course there are careerist douche wing/cc who stand on their own lack of merit, but hard to be a stand out warrior leader at the O-6 level and not get fired when you’ve got the crop of GOs that exist today.

It could be the quality of recruits, but I could also see it heavily being the non-rated world discourages free thinking/critical thought while encouraging binary thinking and zero mission ownership. This is not a problem in at least portions of other services. Hell, the USMC officers I’ve worked with from the “shoe clerk” MOS have more mission-focused/get it done attitudes than the entire non-rated AF combined.

Term limits would make a hugely positive impact. It’ll never happen.

Assuming not much has changed (fighter world), most O-4/O-5 are maybe getting 5x month. Their guard counterparts are doubling that in many cases. Even the part time guard guys fly more than their AD counterparts a lot of the time. That’s a very general statement, and there are obviously some people on both sides who don’t fit this mold.

The amount of asshattery on staff is astounding, it’s 69,000 worse without pilots holding people accountable, getting shit done, “mentoring” the REMFs on what actually needs to be done and why their ideas are fucking retarded, etc. A better fix is remote staff work, which the ANG is slowly coming around to. Not everyone can be remote, but a lot of pilots wouldn’t mind staff much if they could stay living where they want, still fly regularly, etc. I know a couple guys have done this on AD as well. Loosen the grip on the “it’s always been this way” thought and things would be better.

I’m curious too. It’s a nice sound bite, but what do people actually mean by that? What does this “hypothetical equal wealth society” look like? Why do I care if Bill Gates has a bajillion dollars? Vivek Ramaswamy has a very interesting take on this subject. Everyone should listen to it. I think his argument is a pretty sound “common ground” between left and right.

Actual conversation with actual gay friends (before someone accuses me of being “hateful”) - they’re concerned the takeover of the pride movement by the extreme left will cause a backlash and big pendulum swing backwards in time when things weren’t so great for them. Enter the new Gallup poll: 7% decline in the last year of Americans who think same sex relationships are morally OK. Now that’s not a “all hell breaking loose” poll, but it does validate their concern is not irrational. This extreme movement will likely galvanize otherwise “keep to themselves” type of people, and it’ll be people like my friends above who suffer from it. It’s simple, keep to yourselves and don’t try to shove things down people’s throats and generally everyone will just move about their day. Go crazy pushing things and enough people are going to get pissed off it’ll backfire.

Shack on above. But I’d say as a general statement in the fighter world at least, you’re flying way more in the guard as a Maj/Lt Col than your peers on AD. Probably a wash at the Lt/Capt level. Once you hit O-4 on AD, Fly less and plan more parties/be an exec/go to school/wing king’s butt boy for some bullshit personal project…OR go to the guard at the end of your UPT ADSC. Tough choice.

The dems should split; create the progressive party and move on (it already exists at the state level). That way “regular” dems can actually vote for rational policies and not be forced into two options of trump or supporting batshit crazy progressive policies and candidates. Unfortunately most will vote along party lines and would rather cast a vote for dipshit 69 than anyone with the opposite party symbol. Bring back dems that I may disagree with on some things, but at least we both still reside in reality and are logical.

I’ve also not heard positive reviews of the DON reserves. It is NOTHING like the USAF guard/reserves.

I wasn’t spun up, just pointing out you were wrong when you said non-citizens can’t vote. VT specifically has had non-citizens voting all over the state for some time. This one article is just one example of that.
