Deployment/TDY timeline of different platforms
brabus replied to Josephohhumble's topic in General Discussion
Even that was completely wrong for me when I was in UPT. They were still saying, “fighters fly around the flag pole, you’ll be home a lot.” Yeah that turned out to be 100% wrong. There’s no predicting deployments/TDY rates even in a couple years, let alone generally over a career. Mission, that’s the only thing people should pick an airframe based on. -
ANG Pay System Explained (AFTP, UTA, Title 10/32)

If you’re worried about important family events, etc. you’d miss, the guard is generally much better about taking care of people than AD. But, you are full time, so I wouldn’t expect to skate out on a bunch of trips. And as a new guy, going on trips is great for many reasons, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. -

Even the time we stayed on base was still an epic TDY. All the other times in Tumon we were at the Hilton and the Westin. New guys - make sure you go steer the ship. -

Sounds like a completely different universe than back in the day. That sucks. -
@M2 How bright is the illumination? Been thinking about picking up a PA variant, but the one negative I read is even max illum is not “daylight bright,” however everything else is quite positive, and for $300 seems like a great deal. But for $55 more, I could be swayed to the vortex.

You can call the ATF with your application number and they can give you a general update on where it’s at. I bet you’re pretty close.

@Boomer6 I’m laughing with you, not at you! Glad to see nothing has changed in the last 10 years. But, on the other hand PACAF TDYs are generally pretty epic…most of my best stories came from those 5 years. -
@Negatory Really helping your credibility here. Feel free to peruse multiple years of discussion where you were wrong, many people were right, you were a self-righteous asshole to them, then you gave a “sorry (but not really sorry)” apology after it became impossible to hide the fact you were wrong…and now you’ve decided to quadruple down by arguing why it’s OK you were wrong and being a douchebag to others was warranted. It must be painful as fuck to be your IPs/WOs dealing with all the quibbling and excuses you must make.

It’s subjective on how much travel is too much, but historically you’ll be gone a decent amount (call it around 50% averaged out over the first 10 years) in most aircraft. Some are worse, some are better. Pick the mission, not the travel rate…things do and will always change/fluctuate. -
Look at LPVOs…1-4x is sufficient, but 1-6x is probably worth it, even if you think you’ll never shoot beyond 300 yds. But to Lawman’s point, if you are “confident” you’re not going to use this inside 75 yds or so, then a fixed power scope is a great idea (can easily install offset sights for closer work later).

Oh yeah, I’m positive she doesn’t. I still think he should sue her for millions on principle, and get whatever she/her family can give according to the court. They deserve to lose their asses on this. The parents are culpable having obviously done a shitty job of raising their kid. I have a feeling you had a membership card there at one point…remember the midget!?
-
I rarely support lawsuits, but I hope this guy sues this girl/her family for 10s of millions…loss of wages, career earnings potential, defamation, etc.
-
@Pooter Good points, especially #3. A new guy without a family in my neck of the woods is making $25/hr (assuming 40 hr week shoe clerk), in the 12% tax bracket, has free & comprehensive health care, 4 years in has a solid GI Bill to use, gaining good resume-building experience, potentially had an enlistment bonus, and more. I’m not arguing they shouldn’t be paid more, but how about some people show me all the other options for an 18 yr old with zero skills that beat this deal.

It’s a valid point!

Absolutely possible, but low chance of success. How: Rush units and convince them to hire you and secure the required T-38 TX, IFF, and B-Course training spots. Why it’s hard: well why does a unit want to risk a heavy guy making it through all that when they can hire dudes that don’t need any of those courses and are already fighter experienced? Also, that’s 1.5-2 yrs in a pipeline as an “old” guy that the unit doesn’t get shit out of you. Then when you’re done with training, you’re a “pretty old” guy basically starting at the beginning and less useful than the 25-28 yr old LT/Capt. Rush less desirable units (location, politics, etc) and you’ll have a better shot, but that really probably means you went from .05 PK to .1 PK. Thats the reality - not saying don’t go for it, but chance of success is very slim.

Don’t take the bonus, go guard…i will bet you $1B 15 years from now you’ll look back and be incredibly happy you went that route.

Hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. I’m waiting for when the hallway of nut-dragging broken glass appears, then this shit is over and it’s back to Big D I go!
-
Get out, get a line number, piece together full time orders to make up 6 years…or you may end up deciding not to go for the FT retirement. Maybe it sounds crazy now, but it won’t sound so crazy once you’ve tasted life outside the mil (not to mention 6 years at the airline will massively outpace a mil retirement earnings-wise).

For sure. I have many NFA items, not a noob at this. I think it’s still important to highlight a pic of only the SERNO is required, no benefit to giving more than that. Simple and only exactly what is asked for/required is the best way to go about these things (same when interacting with any local or fed agency). I only write this stuff for the benefit of the guy who will read this before his initial foray into NFA items.

I didn’t misspeak…the strike guys know exactly what I’m referring to.
-
Definitely a strike eagle guy.

Dude, you lost credibility by making this blanket statement that apparently applies to every officer. Sure there are shitty ones, but in my entire career I’ve seen maybe one or two that meet this criteria of truly fucking over enlisted for personal gain. I know there’s more out there than one or two, but you acting like it’s a large portion is ridiculous. You mean the things a guy earned via years of hard work and sacrifice? Just because someone is deemed successful doesn’t mean they’re a POS and/or didn’t earn it. Unless you’re a retarded progressive, then that irrational thought probably does make sense. Again, painting with that broad brush only destroys your credibility, not someone else’s.
