My hope is this cleans a lot of rot out, yes with some collateral damage, and they adjust the policy in the not-to-distant future to actually allow for remote work for the “laptop heavy” crowd. Basically it’s a short term attempt to see who takes the bait. But we’ll see.

That’s a valid concern/negative of the cut with an axe approach. The perfect solution would be to honestly assess which jobs actually *need* to be in person and which jobs have data to support better productivity in office vs. remote. There are plenty of jobs out there that are legitimate for remote work, but as helodude pointed out, this is probably just a mechanism to reduce the bloated gov, which needs to be done, but certainly sucks to lose good ones in the process.

Good, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. If we could cut 80% of the civs, we’d be much better off.

@Smokin I’m always curious about a piston AR, but the pros over DI I’ve read are cleaner, cooler, less jams - things I’ve not really had much issue with shooting lots of DI. My curiosity is still there, but my gut says it’s not a significant difference/impact won’t be noticeable, so why go down the piston road?

That would be awesome, take my money El Salvador!

Yep, I’d say the vast majority of the loud pro-67 people are very disingenuous about their motives.

Ben thinking about that lately, can’t seem to find anything definitive (lots of speculation). Let us all know if you find any good data.

Maybe it’s not 4D chess, but in less than 24 hrs from my initial post regarding tariffs on our allies, we have wildly succeeded with one of them. CA will soon follow. I’m not in blind support of tariffs, but I am open minded and so far in the last month (including before he took office) Trump has been wildly successful with them, whether via actual implementation or threat of. So far we’ve seen tons of leftist doomsdayers proven wrong multiple times on this front. Remains to be seen how a long term tariff strategy works, but the “we’re so fucked!” cries on X, etc. are laughable.

@ClearedHot SBR/pistol AR shooting 300BLK subs. Keep in mind the 9mm is going to over penetrate just like the AR (or a shotgun) on clean misses. There is not a magic caliber that causes enough damage on good hits while also not penetrating sheetrock on clean misses. The most important factors in the HD scenario are practice and knowing where the area/directions are that you don’t want to shoot (e.g. your kids bed is on the other side of that part of the living room wall). A secondary factor would be where do you live (apartment vs. home on multiple acres) - do you have to account for neighbors? Pistol, shotgun, rifle can all be used effectively as long as the user is proficient and has thought through those “avoid this shot trajectory” situations.

No I’m not saying that all. But looking back I realize how I wrote that could be taken that way, so I don’t blame you for the response. A better way to say it is just because they’re an ally doesn’t mean they don’t face repercussions for actions (and lack of actions) leading to negative outcomes for our country. The carrot hasn’t worked, so here’s the stick. They don’t get anymore free passes just because they’re an ally. Furthermore, as an ally they should act like it and do a lot better WRT border-related issues. We’ll see how long this lasts; my guess is not horribly long as they realize they’re economically way outside our league.

Actively tariffing two “allies” who continue to not GAF about our shared borders and are directly contributing to significant amounts of American deaths and general degradation of society. Trump uses tariffs as leverage, and he has been extremely successful at wielding them. CA and Mex are welcome to FAFO, or they can start actually doing something about the shit they let pour into our country. Now to the topic of tariffs as a baseline/long term economic strategy, I’m not sure yet. They will certainly raise prices in the short term, but if that yields substantial growth in American production/less reliance on foreign imports in the long term, that is a good thing and potentially worth the short term cost sacrifice. Secondly, if this is done in conjunction with reducing/eliminating the income tax (not holding my breath, but for discussion’s sake), that would essentially mean I pay more for consumables, but way less to the gov’s pockets where I have little to no control over where my money goes. I have control over my own spending, I have zero control over congressional spending. I prefer the former and I think most Americans do too.

I trust the FBI about as much as the CCP at this point. But, I suppose it depends on the official reason they were fired (not just whatever single quote was printed in a news article). Could be bullshit/lawsuit city, but may not be. Also, we’re they truly fired, or just reassigned to BFE Field Office, ND and quit?

More importantly they should immediately stop relying on visual as the primary decon method in busy airspace. I’m not saying kill it everywhere in the NAS, but I have no issue with killing it in class B and within an approach corridor in Class C if an aircraft is on a segment of the approach. Story time: I almost midaired once in class C when the controller gave very shitty description of traffic, I called visual on the wrong traffic (but it correlated based on his description), then missed his “intended” factor traffic only because I continued a visual scan and maneuvered to avoid. Mind you I’m an experienced pilot and this was not a necessarily busy airspace. He tried to violate me, and the FAA ended up violating him and pulling his cert because he used incorrect phraseology and gave a poor traffic point out that correlated with the wrong aircraft. That’s a great example of how visual decon should not be fully relied on. Now take my story and put it in a very congested airspace at night with a ton of cultural lighting, water-based visual illusions, etc.

@08Dawg What’s too bad is that’s exactly what would happen, I don’t blame her family. Nobody will talk about how there was a male pilot also there with twice the hours. The only way DEI could possibly be linked is if the tower was understaffed at the time and it was found the additional personnel who *should* have been there would have likely jumped in with directive comm to avert disaster. But even then, that hypothetical finding will never be definitive, but just an educated assumption. FAA staffing may be a CF (in addition to helo pilot error), but ultimately I think the RC will be insufficient procedures for the amount of traffic congestion in the DCA area. And I say all this as someone who vehemently believes DEI is a cancer on the world and needs to die. Meritocracy and highest qualified/capabilities is how every industry and gov agency should work.

Then I’d vote Sig MPX K for best off the shelf buy. Cons are meh trigger (e.g. mil spec-like) and you have to get an adapter to use non-sig suppressors, but both can be overcome/accepted (I can’t stand shitty triggers, that’s maybe the best upgrade you can immediately make). Similar controls to AR, so no real “learning curve.” Get a good suppressor and some 147gr 9mm rounds…awesome.
-
No you don’t. That’s an unachievable position! Your punishment for making such a bold face lie is to go buy another AR. To answer your question, what are you looking for in the sub gun category - a fun and cheap to shoot range toy or something you may want to rely on for defense? Does it literally need to look close to/same as an MP-5 or just something in the sub-gun category?

Initial Pilot Training and Future Pilot Training
brabus replied to LookieRookie's topic in General Discussion
So true. The engineers across industry are mostly great dudes who want to win, just like us. It’s their upper management and c suite that fucks everything up. -
Still have several years to go and then the Raptor can join the club that started in 2001! Incredible they still don’t have a HMCS. It’s a great example of how pathetic our requirements and acquisitions process is.

Experience does not guarantee proficiency. According to that article the crew had 1k/500/“a few hundred” hours…that’s not “extremely” experienced in my book (but also I don’t think that’s a significant contributor in this accident). Now tack on low proficiency (a guess, not stated as fact) and it’s very realistic task saturation/misprioritization led to being a couple hundred feet high, unfortunately at the worst time and place. Let he who has never found themselves a couple hundred (or more) feet high/low cast the first stone. It seems like altitude deconfliction is suspect in the NCR, so how about helos have to hover/hold if an aircraft is < X nm on approach to a runway that’s a factor to a HR, no exceptions (also maybe don’t allow circle to 33 at night). Helo can proceed once aircraft laterally displaced from HR by X amount. Seems a simple procedure change like this could substantially reduce the midair threat.

I’ll summarize this: J6 is all around a horrendous govt subversion slathered in heavy political weaponization of multiple agencies, tied up in a messy, and now widely exposed, scheme to target political opponents of the govt. This guy wasn’t even there. The amount of bold face lies spread about J6 by the MSM and govt officials/congressman, and the related BS charges/sentences that abound, should infuriate all Americans. Is everyone involved completely innocent, nope. Did people do dumb shit and deserve some punishment, yes. But the overarching theme is gross trampling of rights with zero fucks given for the truth or reasonable application of law. I understand you likely disagree with this assessment and that’s your prerogative. But based on this, I do not believe the guy you linked above committed treason, nor do I think any amount of what he did equals a sitting 4 star giving our #1 enemy a heads up on any moves the administration is about to execute/highly considering executing. This could rabbit hole into a lengthy discussion, but I don’t think anyone is interested in that, at least in this thread, so that’s my last piece regarding this guy vs. Milley. Back to Milley specifically…

DEI is horrible and needs to be destroyed, BUT it almost certainly has zero to do with last night. But, that hasn’t stopped millions of people (president on down) from declaring DEI as causal. It’s really sad because those people are showing their ignorance/clinging attachment to a politicized topic, but equally sad that the progressive left has created such a massive problem that many people just now assume that’s the cause. Bad all around.
-
We do agree, but it’s weird you put a link completely irrelevant to the topic of treason and associated punishment, considering that guy (while perhaps a POS as a general statement) didn’t do that.
-
Treason should not be pardonable (obviously assuming due process given and found guilty in trial). If all accounts are true, Milley should be swinging from a rope, not just retiring with lower rank/pay. We’ve completely gone soft on so many things, and treason is maybe the most egregious one of them.

Holy shit that is bad. Prayers for all involved. Hoping for a positive outcome for all, or at least most.
