  1. They sell custom RFBs in Songtan...you can get yours with your "call sign" and squadron on it!!!1!!!1!!
  2. Yup, concur with the above. My visor covers are fine, I got them made by royal bag but plenty of bros got theirs at dark horse. I need darkhorse's email for a different project.
  3. Anyone have dark horses email address?
  4. Pencil whipping beans only makes the problem worse. Don't lie on your TARs and let the training guys file the reports. If you're not getting the training you need then lying about it won't fix it. That being said, all of my landings are generally precise approaches...now that 17th red air sortie in a row? That's a different story.
  5. Here's what I'm hoping to do on my PCS from Kunsan (remote OCONUS) to Aviano with my frau living in Phoenix...FG or someone smarter than me, can you sanity check this for me? Circuitous travel to take 4 or 5 days of leave en route, go to Phoenix, collect frau and dog, go to parents' house for Thanksgiving (take 3-4 days of leave) then on to Aviano. If I read the below correctly, I should be authorized to do all this on commercial airlines (given the circuitous travel), right? Will I have to buy my ticket on a US Flagged Carrier or can I go cheapest option to make it happen? All of the TDY travel I've done from Korea has been on foreign flag carriers and was annotated as such on the orders, I just didn't know if that could happen on PCS travel as well. Finally, do I have to fly into Phoenix (where she moved while I'm in Korea) or can I go to Palm Springs, CA instead where she will probably leave the dog with her parents. No big deal if I do, it's a 4 hour drive and I'll just rent a car to go there and back. Does anyone know if this is the correct location of the entitlement to help Frau move: U5120 G. Travel to/from a Designated Place: 3. Travel and Transportation Allowances Authorized/Approved by the Service Concerned. A Servicedesignated official may authorize/approve travel and transportation allowances when the member must travel to the designated place en route between PDSs to assist: a. In moving dependents, I just want to have all my ducks in a row before I go to MPF and get told that I can't do this. Also, does anyone know how they calculate travel time? My rip has given me 2 days, which doesn't really seem like it's enough to get from Korea to Italy via rotator (which I don't want to do, but that's how they calculate travel days, right?). Thanks for the help, bros.
  6. Kunsan 2. (Kunsan 1 is obvious, a Kunsan 2 is still hot back in the states)
  7. Correct, that was just an elephant walk and big middle finger to the douches up North. Someone did the math and including the missiles it was 250,000lbs of explosives on the runway. There was a turkey shoot that week and a rage fest at the club on Friday. In an only slightly related note, the frantic guard calls last week from the RoKAF about the NoDak's rocket were pretty amusing. "ARR US TRAFFIE TURN EAST IMMEDIATERY!! WESTA AIRSPACEY CROSED. KOREA AIR FORCE EN GUARD"
  8. Might be a good one to ask for the reg...sounds like someone is taking an extremely narrow interpretation of the AFI. Unless the AFI specifically directs "built in bluetooth only" or whatever, then the sky cops don't have much of a leg to stand on.
  9. No, ROTC is where you perfect the art of ######ing everyone else over to get what you want. It's the SNAP/shoe clerk rookery.
  10. Also, the 6 fighter / attack squadrons on the RoK named the new guy Kim Jong "BUFF" Un a few weeks ago.
  11. Osan lost a jet today. Pilot ejected safely. https://www.osan.af.m...sp?id=123294664
  12. Russia and China vetoed the resolution. Ban Ki Moon complained, the US complained, nothing really changes.
  13. There is a group commander at a remote air base in Korea who has 3 execs on a rotating weekly schedule.
  14. We had a surprise visit from the CSAF yesterday here at the Kun with a Q&A session (in uniform, at the squadron, on Christmas eve at 1600...) First question of the day from a SQ/CC type: "Sir, my CGOs are working extremely hard. Harder than I worked as a CGO. I was wondering what your philosophy is with regard to the emphasis placed on AAD and the promotion cycle for O-4 moving 2 years. Is your priority for our young aviators to spend their first couple assignments becoming tactical experts or working on their masters? They don't have the time to do both well and I want to know how to advise them." Answer: "Great question. Yes it's on our radar. Here's my thought process: they should primarily and absolutely be tactical experts. We need our CGOs to be the ass-kickers out front and ready to go at a moment's notice, especially here at Kunsan." So I'm thinking "holy shit...this cant be real... Then he continues... "But, if there are some of your CGOs who have the bandwidth and drive to better themselves we shouldn't foreclose on that opportunity by masking their hard work on promotion cycles. That's not the American way." What. The. ######. "So, I realize that's not the answer you're looking for, but it would be unfair to a CGO who is able to balance a master's degree with becoming a tactical expert if we didn't at least consider that capability when we compare officers. We need our leaders to be credible in their communities and should recognize the hardest workers." Dude. Are you kidding me? Words from the SQ/CC later in a Christmas Eve discussion "So we'll continue to promote people who aren't credible but check all the boxes. Awesome. I'm gonna write an article..this is retarded." Maybe it'll change again with the next Chief...at least we know where the emphasis is coming from. Other things he discussed (without my commentary this time): -- F-34+1 is the future of the force, they're going to SLEP 300-349+1 F-16s with AESA, counter DRFM, structural stuff as a gap-filler (STS) until the 2018-2019 when the F-34+1 starts delivering in numbers. He said it will replace the F-16 and A-10. -- The main reason the CAF doesn't have the new G-suit is the company that manufactures them is unable to produce them in high enough quantities...they're "trying to get more faster" -- F-22 gets Auto GCAS in a near term OFP update (I forget which one he said sorry) -- USAF is going to try and buy the rights and intellectual property to the jets. IT's going to be expensive but it will save money down the road because we can compete the upgrade vs. relying on a company to not abuse its monopoly. Case in point, LM owns the F-16 OFP so we can only get upgrades through them. They name the price, we're stuck with it. If we own the F-16 OFP we can compete it and potentially get a lower cost solution. -- Kunsan was considered to be closed because it costs so much...not gonna happen for strategic reasons but it will never be anything but a remote (costs too much to build the facilities for families) -- There's a problem with the AIM-120D motor, once they fix it them they'll buy lots of them for all my friends. -- He talked about the Air Force getting smaller...he said it's not going to be hollow we're just not going to be in as many places at the same time. He said that we're going to get smaller in the order of a few hundred airplanes and a few thousand people. When asked to specify airframes he wouldn't, just said it'll be 50/50 big jets and little ones, and will include ANG/AFR -- Officer Accessions will continue to be minimal, OTS is running at its bare minimum now and will continue that way. The LtC/Col SERB "should" get us back to the mandated size. He said the involuntary things will not happen again in the foreseeable future and won't happen at all to the enlisted side. -- He said part of the Air/Sea battle concept is to do better with what we have in the face of anti-access scenarios like China, Iran, Syria...use existing technology better between the services. -- WRT compensation: he said that personnel numbers are down 45% from the gulf ware and personnel costs are up 65% from then. Said that changes are coming, and to expect that retirees may have to pay more for tricare enrollment and that the system will move to a combination of a defined benefits plan (pension) and defined contribution plan with matching (TSP). He said anyone in the service now will be grandfathered. -- TA is a $500M program and will go back to 75% (where it was before 9/11) and we should expect to use VA benefits or money from our pocket to pick up the difference That's all I can remember. Although it was Christmas Eve and I was in uniform at work, it was good to hear these things straight from the horse's mouth. I'm sorry I didn't ask about black boots or friday shirts. Merry Christmas from the Land of Not Quite Right.
  15. Spending money on fighters is a way to posture in the world stage. China has been spending lots of money on their fighters, Russia has been spending lots of money on their fighters, India has been spending lots of money on their fighters. Given Obama's recent decision to focus on the Pacific for force posturing (i.e. China) upgrading our Raptor fleet may have something to do with this. This is not to minimize the great work that the CSAR community has done and is doing; just part of the politicking in the world stage.
  16. You're joking, right...? Take a looksy at their IADS and tell me how much tac airlifting you'll be doing?
  17. Neither. Get yourself an address in Florida and become a state resident now. Buy the car in OK and register it in FL immediately. Wait 6 months before you drive it into FL (or don't get caught driving it in FL until after 6 months) and you avoid sales tax, "new wheels on the road fee" and registering the car in FL is like $80/year. I did this 2 years ago but it was slightly easier because I was already an FL resident. If you can't make yourself an FL resident then buy the car wherever and register it in OK and pay OK state taxes. But look in the DMV manuals there may be a military exception they don't advertise on their websites or in easy forms(like the one in FL).
  18. Finance Guy (or someone smarter than me)- I have just moved from CONUS to a remote OCONUS base. I have been here for 3 weeks without my unaccompanied baggage even though I shipped it 2 weeks before I left my previous PDS. I was able to move directly into a dorm room but have essentially lived out of the suitcases I brought since I arrived 22 days ago. I saw in JFTR the section about TLA and I was wondering if I am entitled to a partial amount of it? I did not check into lodging because I was told there are rooms available immediately. I read U9150 and am just generally confused by it. My interpretation is that it appears I am not authorized TLA but I wanted to double check and receive all the payments I'm entitled to. Any help is appreciated.
  19. Really... Congressmen Quits over Shirtless Scandal
  20. I hope we change it every 2 years so I can keep wearing my black boots and shirt with my flight suit.
  21. https://blog.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2011/01/27/did_chinese_tv_pass_off_top_gun_footage_as_a_military_drill Awesome. I know the source is shady but it's funny either way.
