In this whole discussion, no one has mentioned how the slat system on the T-1 has modified its aerodynamics to act more sluggish than a C-5. That's part of why the Tone is set up for heavies. I have no, repeat, no, idea why they switched the Buff track from Tones to -38s, except for the fact that there are no other airframes, save for gunpigs (and those are mostly for FAIPs who flew Tones or -44 grads) that practice weapons delivery and don't go through the -38 track. I don't think that the Tone is around just to cut down on washout rates. Does Phase III really wash out that many dudes?

"Into the Mouth of the Cat: The Story of Lance Sijan" is a good read about a MOH winner. "Starship Troopers" is a great leadership read that a commander once had me read (the movie has almost nothing to do with the book). I agree with the Andy McNabb books...love em! I also have a book by Paul Tibbets, pilot of the Enola Gay called "The Return of the Enola Gay" (autographed...good read). And if you've never read "The Right Stuff", you're doing yourself an injustice.

Do these guys put in for gas at all? I imagine gas is pretty steep up that way, eh?

On the subject of PME...those of us who were caught in the transition of the intro to ABC or ASBC...will it negatively effect us if we don't have it? I've been in formal training since the get-go and never had the opportunity to spend those wonderful weeks in Alabama (sorry for the hijack)

They never lost a cadet jumping...the AAD won't allow for it...it automatically deploys the chute based on the preset baro- altitude which is set before you board the aircraft. The only 3 deaths at the Academy have been instructors (2 enlisted). There are a few PTWOBs on here you could probably ask...they would know a little better than me...

They actually give that thing out during Basic now...as well as the NDSM.
