I look at it from the standpoint of sex: pulling out isn't the best method of birth control. However, it's better than not pulling out, especially when I can't get a condom. Now find a way to make that work for masks. You're welcome.

Dick move. It costs absolutely zero fucking effort to write two lines (which are already handed to you and scrubbed by about 8 different layers of the Bobs in between!) and give a chance to a record to succeed. In fact, it takes MORE effort to go in and delete everything after it's gone up. Such a waste of manpower in the end. Sorry this is your situation, brother...

I’ve heard it said not once, not twice, but thrice by current/previous CSAFs and VCSAFs: ”You have no idea how frustrating and powerless it is to be the CSAF”

I’ve scoured the JTR (only outlines must be used for “temporary lodging” and “must use government lodging if available”). Been given the green light by finance saying the Pentagon doesn’t have an attached lodging requirement so good on the economy. Am I good to AirBnB with TLE? I know I have to have an itemized receipt (doable) for each night. Finance Guy around?

Elon Musk: "The fighter jet era has passed"
war007afa replied to bigdreams's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately, in the era of the Air Force bringing in "Spark Tanks" and letting people like Mark Cuban make what end up equating to policy and funding decisions, we should cringe a little when people like Elon Musk open their mouths with regard to their (even if uneducated on the subject) opinions. Let's also not forget how we keep ending up with defense contractor executives at the helm. Stuff like this isn't going away. Be afraid... -
Air Force allows beards & turbans and such
war007afa replied to filthy_liar's topic in General Discussion
You have no idea how scarily inaccurate this statement is. Sadly, I had to find some of this information out as a part of my Puzzle Palace job. Over 24% of our force is on some sort of profile; over 15% are waist measurement only. Exception has unfortunately become the new normal, which is why so many seem to be carrying significant angst to this point. -
So there I was... In Orlando a few weeks ago for some sim training prior to my new MDS qual course. MCO is nearby and we get a ton of crew dudes at the bar in the hotel. One of the dudes who I conversed with was a Spirit guy, and he offered that while there may be a lot of hiring in the future, expect SIGNIFICANT stagnation, as a lot of their initial hiring swarm is extremely junior and moving up in seniority will be slim to none for possibly decades. Take that how you will. Cheers!

Do you prefer the BC localizer for a missed approach? Or perhaps the "you don't get a missed approach, so don't die"?

Same pilot from the song, ironically. Who knew?! 🍿

So if we let someone else move in, but gain the same strategic effects (checked terrorism, an influence, access [increasingly less necessary as technology improves], and “the devil I know), what is the true disadvantage? I view it like the Starbucks coffee bagged by Costco/Kirkland: tastes pretty good to me! Let Iran police Afghanistan (they won’t; Persians don’t like hardly anyone but Persians); hell, let nearly any regional partner assist in the region. Let India and Pakistan compete over who can buddy up to Afghanistan more (already happening). I’d rather US aid go to India where some accountability for spending can occur than the black hole it current funnels through. I like RPA CAPs, but the need won’t exist anymore. I can’t provide a statistic, but I’d willingly bet >60% of the global intelligence apparatus operates in/around CENTCOM. The holistic solution to prevent another 9-11 takes into account where the mastermind sought refuge, but that’s only one portion of it. The rest of the win comes from all of the other products and reforms which rose from the ashes. Regardless, if CAPs keep us home, let’s follow some of the models of the other AOs we use RPA in and press.

So you pretty much just described the status quo, except right now there’s the intermediate step of hoping they’ll assist us with security responsibilities. As for ISIS moving around, they’re already looking over their shoulders...for the Taliban. I’m surprised we haven’t better-embraced the “enemy of my enemy” position a little better with regard to the two factions and their hatred for each other. In the end, the best thing for Afghanistan is our departure. I’ve seen how capable these guys actually are when we’re not around. It isn’t that different from when we are, except they receive a lot less stuff that they don’t actually NEED.

Which jives with the last rated retention report. Nearly a third of those pilots who separated did so as a result of being passed over (either via the system or exploitation). This “fixing the glitch” will equate to around 6-9% change in rated retention (at least for a few years). Now your 5th look to O-5 will take you within spitting distance to retirement. May the odds ever be in your favor.

I'll pile on. I don't think it matters if he does or not! Instead of lame ducking, win or lose he should make the decision. Announce NLT December 2020 the order to withdrawal, win or lose. Bonus points if he does it prior to January 2020.

Whatever job you're doing, I either want it for the flexibility to enjoy a Monday night like you are... OR I really don't want it if Monday's are that bad! Either way, cheers!

Commanders are dropping like flies this year
war007afa replied to MDDieselPilot's topic in General Discussion
So I’ll be the asshole. I know plenty of dead guys who are dead because they played by the rules. They didn’t pose with bodies, or kill prisoners, or fire where the risk of harm to civilians existed (or in the case of the Army Lieutenant, specifically target then). And their honor on the battlefield under the established rules of “civilized” warfare is why some of them aren’t with us anymore. They don’t get a pardon. They’ll pay their sentence for eternity for playing by the rules. Seems like an injustice to pardon those who went out of their way to break the rules which played a part in the deaths of great men. RANT - OFF (P) -
Quality multi-ply toilet paper. Lowest bidder wiping seemed like it was some sort of concession being made with the Taliban during all of the negotiation talk last year. One of our Guard guys had his unit send us a case of good TP and it made the experience a slightly more tolerable.

AF enlisted "pilots" - rank doesn't matter, only ability
war007afa replied to gearhog's topic in General Discussion
Based on years of watching the clown show, I’d bet in less than 5 years the initiative to start placing enlisted pilots into rated staff billets comes up (provided the whole think doesn’t go down the shitter, as per Chuck’s prediction) -
Curious as to how many lawmakers (who create the NDAA and associated directives) receive monetary benefits from their non-government business endeavors as a result of legislation they create. If people in glass houses want to throw stones...

You must work for Lockheed...

And no 11S does that? Hmm...

Why don’t they combine this with the B-1 manning/airframe issues and reroute those dudes as FAIPs? Seems like that would make sense?

Used this exact case to get A3 to allow the P prefix on the 87 AFSC. It’s horseshit it took us this long to get them to finally quit playing games and seeing things like this happen. Sorry, brother.

State source. Is this an installation thing? Literally just had a discussion with the AF-level policy author on this exact subject; no such policy change was mentioned. And they’d have to convince CSAF to crawfish on his guidance. Unlikely.

Read the text under the block. It reads acknowledgement, not agreement. With regard to strats and pushes, there is no right to them. They’re wholly-owned by the endorser. If a conversation can’t overcome the hurdle, refusal to sign is absolutely caustic This is a bad play.
