  4. M2 - Thanks and error noted. Didnt see his name higher up on the box. My apologies. And no problem with your comments, duly noted.
  5. Graybeard, Am happy to answer your questions. I do know that yes he took issue with various comments posted on here as we briefly discussed them some time ago. The full depth of it I didnt get into not does it concern me. Yes Ned speaks his mind, for the better or worse and I do know as far as the comments from Mr Davies, it was taken as trying to discredit our publications since Mr Davies is tied up with other magazines from what we are aware. But anyway as far as I am concerned I was not involved in that issue so wont make any further comment on it. With regards to your questions I can answer then as follows: a. My subscription to Helitac is still canceled? Helitac magazine was actually merged into HeliOps some time ago and it became a joint civil/military publication. I have no idea on who to look up in the database to see if your name is on there since we dont have a "gray beard" in our database. If you wish to send me a PM here with a name to check then I am happy to do so. b. I am not welcome on your forum? Yes you are welcome to the forum, anyone and everyone is. As long as we have had it going we have only banned one person and I know that for a fact as I oversee the admin of the forum. In case you dont have the url anymore its https://www.heliopsforum.com c. I can get a free copy of "Cleared HOT"? Not a problem. Just send me a PM with name and email address and I will send you the email invite to the VIP section of our new website which will have PDF downloads of both HeliOps and Cleared HOT. We decided recently to launch a dedicated digital based publication for the mil helo industry and that was where Cleared HOT came from. Its totally digital with no printed copies and Issue 3 is out very soon. d. All of the above? See all of the above answers. Hope that clarifies things for you. And bottom line Yes Ned may piss a few people off because he is a pretty blunt person and straight shooter but I take my hat off to him that he has always done everything he can to promote the helo industry, both civil and military. Anyway, ball is back with you. Regards Rick.
  6. First off Mr Davies Ned is away down country and this post has nothing to do with him, I am making it. If you wish to just drag something up from the past which was not even a post from myself and use it to make some sort of point, instead of accepting the offer as it stands then thats your choice but I think its pretty poor form. I will obviously take it that you dont wish to take up the offer and thats fine, its duly noted. Will just add those who have sent me PMs. The offer continues to stay open to other members of the forum if they so wish. Have a good day Sir. Rick

  13. Thoughts & Prayers to all the family & friends and squadron mates of those killed in the USAF CV22 that crashed west of Qalat in Afghanistan. Your sacrifices were not in vain. Rest in Peace and Godspeed Guys. ISAF: 4 killed in U.S. aircraft crash in Afghanistan By the CNN Wire Staff April 9, 2010 -- Updated 0655 GMT (1455 HKT) (CNN) -- A U.S. aircraft crashed in southern Afghanistan, killing three U.S. service members and one civilian employee, a statement from NATO-led forces said Friday. The cause of the crash of the Air Force CV-22 Osprey was not known, said the International Security Assistance Force statement. Several other service members were injured in the crash late Thursday night. The CV-22, which conducts long-range infiltration and resupply operations for the U.S. military, went down seven miles west of the city of Qalat, the capital of Zabul province. Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban in the region, said Taliban fighters shot down the aircraft. Another spokesman, Qari Yoseph, also claimed responsibility and said that 30 Americans had been killed. A U.S. Air Force helicopter crashed late Thursday in Afghanistan's southeast, killing at least four people and wounding "numerous" others, the military said. A spokesman for the Taliban said its fighters had shot it down, but an Afghan official said it appeared to have crashed due to mechanical failure. The U.S. military released a statement saying an American CV-22 Osprey had crashed in southern Afghanistan late Thursday night, killing three U.S. troops, a civilian employee of unconfirmed nationality, and injuring "numerous other servicemembers." Air Force officials said the cause of the crash was still being investigated. Complete Coverage: Afghanistan The CV-22 Osprey uses tilt-rotor design allows it to take off as a helicopter but fly more like a propeller airplane once airborne, making it faster than most other military helicopters. According to the Air Force, the craft generally "conducts long range infiltration and resupply for U.S. Forces." A NATO spokesman said only that the helicopter went down overnight in the southeastern province of Zabul, and that no other details were known about the incident, which was under investigation. A Zabul government spokesman, Mohhamed Jahn Rasuliyar, first said the helicopter appeared to have been shot down, but changed that later to say the cause appeared to have been technical failure. The U.S. military said casualties had been transported to a nearby military base for treatment. The military's statement indicated that all U.S. personnel had been accounted for. The helicopter crash came just two days after the Taliban posted video of a man identified as Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl, an American soldier captured in Afghanistan last June. It shows him pleading to be returned home and saying the war in Afghanistan is not worth the human cost. NATO commanders in Afghanistan said Thursday the release of the video showing Bergdahl only inspires further efforts to find the man. Rasuliyar said the crash site was about 7 miles from the provincial capital of Qalat, further away than originally reported. He said there were reports of four deaths among those aboard the chopper, the type of which he did not know. Qari Yusuf Ahmedi, a spokesman for the Taliban insurgency that is active in the area, said militants had shot down the aircraft around midnight. The report could not be independently confirmed and the insurgents have a history of false and exaggerated claims designed to promote their cause of driving foreign forces from the country. Choppers are used extensively by both NATO and the Afghan government forces to transport and supply troops spread out across a mountainous country with few roads. Losses have been relatively light, despite insurgent fire and difficult conditions and most crashes have been accidents caused by maintenance problems or factors such as dust. Lacking shoulder-fired missiles and other anti-aircraft weapons, the Taliban rely mainly on machine guns and rocket propelled grenades to target helicopters at their most vulnerable during landings and takeoffs. One of the heaviest single-day losses of life for allied forces occurred on June 28, 2005, when 16 U.S. troops died aboard a Special Forces MH-47 Chinook helicopter that was shot down by insurgents.
  14. Hey All, Just a heads up for everyone here that in September we are launching a brand new military aviation industry publication. Wont give away too much other than to say we will be giving away a bunch of freebie subs to members of BaseOps :D Have attached below the launch issue cover and would welcome your input on what you think we should include in each issue. Remember it covers ALL areas of military aviation from fighters, to maritime, to transport, UAVs etc so feel free to comment away. Thanks for your feedback. Ned
  15. We are in the process of expanding HeliTac and wanted to make an invitation to all members of the forum. We are expanding our writing ranks and would like to invite those of you who feel you can put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) to join our editorial team. You dont have to be a Stephen King but as long as you can put all the information down, then we have a great team of sub editors who can knock it into shape. We are open to suggestions on topics and ideas so drop me an email with your suggestions. Maybe its something other military helo aviators can learn from or you want to write about some technical subject, the options are open. We are happy for you to write under a pen name if needed and we also try and take some of our team to the various helicopter shows and conventions around the world so there is opportunity to travel, mind you being in the military thats probably the last thing you want to do :) and you also get paid for your stories as well. Thanks again guys and please drop me an email on ned@oceaniamediagroup.com Cheers, Ned Publisher - HeliTac

  21. Rainman - The USAF has less than 1500 according to the base commander. Once it gets over 1500 then the CO needs to be a BG instead of a full colonel. That 13000 is made up of all different nationalities, not just US. The unmarked Hueys there are US State Dept helos used to support the Afghan Eradication Project ie: getting rid of the poppies. Thats who I was over there with. The Canberra was actually being used to map the country for mineral deposits at the request of the Afghan Government through NIMA. Guys werent wearing pressure suits so it was all 50K or below alt. The Antonov at the bottom was our ride between Kabul and Kandahar, ideally suited for those sorts of operations. Cheers Ned
  22. Thought I would upload a good selection of images I shot on a recent trip to Kabul and Kandahar. Afghanstan Images
