Oh it's all over the place. I counted at least 10 hipster haircuts on my last TR trip alone. Leadership too busy harassing IPs to take notice I'm sure.

"You make the statement like its somehow our job to stand up to the leadership to challenge the civil authority.... Thats the kind of shit you see in backward ass South American countries where the Military decides "F this guy we know better." Hey a military Junta worked out great for Argentina. I vote the Air Force should be in charge for Taco Tuesday

Quick polling of the CGOs in my sorry neck of the woods indicates no one is willing to stop their masters even if they did have top cover from the CSAF. Only WWIII would fix this disaster

I wanted to be an Air Force pilot my entire life and if you asked anyone that knew me back in AFROTC they would tell you I would stay in for a full career. However once I got into the "real" Air Force I found the focus in C-17s to be about anything but flying. I was never talked to by management about my last tactical approach but about how I was an "embarrassment" for not having my zippers zipped to the appropriate length etc. Thinking that it must be an AMC thing I headed over to T-6s to see if the grass was greener. However it was anything but. Regardless of how hard I worked as a USEM or Chief of Programming I was given second class treatment by our fighter centric management who were the castoffs from the F-15 community. Fear, sarcasm, and intimidation are their tactics in managing a squadron as I came to find out. They looked after their bro network and literally couldn't care about any of my goals or desires to become A PIT instructor FCF pilot you name it. The kicker was my squadron commander directly lied to my face about how I was not selected for 2+2 because of time on station when in reality he never pushed my application beyond the squadron level. I wish the next assignment would mean an improvement however seeing the calibre of the people the Air Force Deems fit for command leads me to believe that VSP is the best option for me The Air Force has helped me out as an aviator in so many ways but it's time to move on with a new phase of my life where I decide who I want to work for, where I want to live and how I wish to live.

I did my ATP last month at Arlington. I had a different experience. My CFI was pretty competent and had good gouge on the ride as well as the two DPEs they use at the school. I agree though if you are expecting UPT like brief, flight, and debrief you will feel that you were cut short. However, I always felt that if I was deficient in an area I could always request more time in that POS Frasca trainer or more ground schooling. The expectations are so low that anyone with a military background should be able to pass no problem. I flew with DPE with the in-depth ground eval. He was a nice guy and he did ask some in depth knowledge but if you go in with the mindset that he just wants to talk/teach you something its nothing to stress over.

I'm pretty much sold on this. Does anyone have a good template/format for this letter? -
Finally copied the S-70s they bought back in the 80s

This is about the worst idea since ever. Currently our aircraft CAP is so low we can't even support the normal student load we have now.

I'm guessing Flyboy didn't do so well in the hand flying portion of T-6s... -
I hope so but every time I tried to get a LM involved in the aviation aspect of the C-17 (how to read an IAP, interpret a PFD, etc) they literally did not care. If they want to start making changes they need to get the loads more involved at Altus or up the education requirements (along the lines of ENGs or FCCs) to enhance CRM in that community.

Usually the 3rd pilot will sit in one of the jump seats if there was one (probably the case for a 1A1 such as transporting Mattis). Honestly (at least in my experience) having a load master up front wouldn't have helped. On 69% of approaches they were passed out, reading a maxim, or had such abysmally low SA On what the pilots were doing they would have no idea that they were landing at the wrong airport.

C-17 Pilot Charged in Training Jump Death

I flew with Axle during my time with the 7AS and I can say he is the model aviator that I try to emulate and pass on to my students. This trial reeks of some serious bullshit and I hope that he can recover from this somehow... -
I'm not going to hold my breath. The whole Shoe clerk/chief apparatus is too invested in the anti morale patch, Friday t-shirt demagogery so unless the new CSAF wants to completely cut them off at the balls (which I wouldn't mind seeing) he won't change anything to keep his credibility with non flyers. Secondly, blues Mondays are the brain child of ole Norty so in order to make him not look like a complete moron the new CSAF will continue to further his policies. More things change the more they stay he same...

Gotta admit those Argentinean Pilots had some serious balls flying single engine jets hundreds of miles over open ocean and attacking the Task Force with no escorts, ECM, etc. Wings of Fame had a great article series on A-4, Mirage/Dagger, and Super Etendard pilots if you can still find a copy .
