  1. If you're planning to attend AIS, they now have an FAA test center where you can take the Mil Comp and ATP written while you are there. Call them for more details.
  2. JS, You ultimately have to take it to a FSDO. First you will have to fill out online using IACRA https://iacra.faa.gov/iacra/. Once thats done, call your local FSDO and make an appointment. During that same call, ask what all documents to bring. If you renew within 3 months of your CFI expiration, you keep that same expiration date. If you wish to renew earlier than the 3 months prior, you will receive a new expiration date.
  3. I know some of you are doing staff work or otherwise not flying...but for those that are and if you are an AF IP you can renew based on your Form 8. 14 CFR 61.97 (2) (iv). A record (AF Form 8) showing that, within the preceding 12 months from the month of application, the flight instructor passed an official U.S. Armed Forces military instructor pilot proficiency check.
  4. § 61.197 Renewal requirements for flight instructor certification. (a) A person who holds a flight instructor certificate that has not expired may renew that flight instructor certificate by— (iv) A record showing that, within the preceding 12 months from the month of application, the flight instructor passed an official U.S. Armed Forces military instructor pilot proficiency check.

    USAA

I was not particularly happy with USAA either when I refinanced. Other than this aspect of USAA, the rest seems to run ok.
  6. I started UPT with 3500 civy hours, ATP and 2 jet types. QUALITY flight time CAN be a huge advantage to allow you to choose which track you want. Your attitude about it will make or break you. Having said that, I don't care what anyone says, an ILS is an ILS. So what that you learn what the USAF rules on it are. When you have that much time, you can fly ILS approaches inverted while smoking a lucky if they asked you to. Formation is the point where I fell off the cliff and started acting like a student pilot. T-38 Instrument/Nav was a joke, formation was a differnt story. IFF is where I was on par. Hope that helps. Long live the LPA!
  7. Try NAVY Pilot training next time.
  8. From Navy Office of Information PENSACOLA, Fla. (NNS) -- An F/A-18A Hornet assigned to the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron (Blue Angels) crashed during the final minutes of an air show at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, S.C., at approximately 4 p.m. EDT, April 21. The pilot did not survive. The pilot of the jet was joining the Delta formation for the final maneuver of the aerial demonstration when the mishap occurred. It was his second year on the team, and first year as a demonstration pilot. The other five Blue Angel jets were not involved in the incident and landed safely moments later. The crash occurred approximately three miles outside the air station in the vicinity of Pine Grove Rd. and White Pine Rd. One civilian on the ground reported minor injuries and was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Some houses in the area received damage, the extent of which is unclear at this time. The name of the pilot is being withheld pending the notification of the next-of-kin. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. 9. Yes it's retroactive to EAD. I invoked my rights under SCRA almost a year into active duty and I received some nice refunds. I've done this on the mortgage, home equity line, and several credit cards. My student loans are lower than 6%.
  10. Just about done with JSUPT. I got here with 3000+ hours and all the IFR time you would expect with that. BUT, I also went through with every type, from IFT only to IFR rated to commuter airline pilots to me. IMHO, the rating matters not, the flying and reading you do prior to getting here does. Read up on IFR stuff and get some IFR flights, you will be good to go. I flew tail wheel stuff prior to UPT.
