  1. Ok I have to post a few more after yesterday.
  2. Not exactly in "motivational poster" form but close enough.
  3. A little OT but I was told by a Lt Col to take my sunglasses off my head while I was in civvies because I might "get in a bad habit" and do it in uniform.
  4. From a technical standpoint this is correct. I think what the other posters were saying is that the Army guys who've been gone for such a long time deserve it. Bumping them up to 1st class for their flight home is a pretty small thank you and one they technically can't accept but I don't know many people who would blame them for doing it.
  5. Actually the sticker and bandanna were free. The crazy Maoist group World Can't Wait worked with the Berkley High School (big surprise there) and the kids were given the day off school if they went to take part. Two groups were giving away the "Make Out, Not War" stickers and free T-shirts and bandannas to the high school kids. Here is a great read (kind of long) with lots of pictures detailing the protest and exposing what a bunch of bs it was. https://www.zombietime.com/berkeley_marines_2-12-2008/
  6. Thanks for all the info guys. I was mistaken about the location of the gun club selling it. For those familiar with GA I thought it was at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta but its actually at Ft. Benning. So I would have to add about 5 hours and 250 miles of driving to get the rifle, which is about another $30 in gas. Plus I would have to join the club (which I was planning on doing if it was at McPherson so I didn't include that in the cost of the rifle) and I'm not joining a club that requires that long of a commute to go shooting. So maybe I'll pick one up later but I won't be getting one of these ones.
  7. It's for sale at a Rifle & Pistol Club on an Army base. I emailed the contact I was given there to see about getting some more info on the rifles and I'm going to try to find the time to get down there this weekend and take a look at them if I can.
  8. I know there have to be some gun nuts on this forum. My only firearm that I own right now is a Glock 21 and I'm mostly familiar with handgun pricing not rifles. I was sent an offer today that the local gun club is selling a few Mosin M44's for $100. That seemed really cheap to me. Anybody have one of these? I don't really need a rifle but $100 hits my "impulse buy" threshold. I see its a 7.62x54 cartridge and those seem a little more expensive than the 7.63x39 rounds. It's only real use would be taking to the range and having fun with, I don't hunt and I don't think my neighbors in the townhome next to me would find it a good home defense caliber. Are there other/better rifles I could get for around $100 or is this a pretty good deal?
  9. Inspired by Senator Kennedy's quote on why we should be giving amnesty to illegal immigrants.
  10. Any idea if this applies to new LT's? My lease on my house ends the day I graduate/commission. It would be great if I could get the AF to pay to store my stuff at the local U-Store-It or whatever until I actually PCS. If not I'm going to have to haul everything from Atlanta back up to my home in Cincinnati on my own dime and use that as my location to move from. Will be much more of a pain. Also, I haven't seen the TDY en-route question answered. It's 95% sure I'll go TDY to ASBC enroute to my first duty station. So if I do a partial DITY move obviously I'll get paid the PCS rate when I move from ASBC out to Peterson but what about the trip from my house to ASBC? I'll be doing a DITY move so I should get reimbursed for the weight but I'm also TDY so I should get the higher per diem right? Or both?
  11. Well since the thread has been revived... My cool warbird story is getting to fly a P-51. Hopefully I'll get a chance in the FG-1D Corsair and P-40 when they get restored. If you're in the Ohio/Kentucky area check them out, great museum. https://www.tri-statewarbirdmuseum.org/p40.shtml
  12. I guess the only reason I questioned it was because I've heard other people having the assignments changed from where they were originally told they were headed. I don't want to start making plans for moving to Colorado then find I'm actually headed somewhere else. You're right though the "space" portion would make sense to be out at Peterson.
  13. I know this thread is almost 2 years old but I'm supposed to be headed out to Peterson soon and had a question. I'm a graduating senior in ROTC and they told me my first duty station will be Peterson and that I'm working in the 853d Electronics Group. One of the staff at our Detachment spent 8 years as a Personnellist at Peterson and said she doesn't remember there ever being an 853d there. From the research I can find looking at the units online I don't see anything about it either and I show that the 853d is up in Hanscom. Hanscom was my first choice for base preference and Peterson was my second choice so I would be happy at either but it seems like they combined the two. Is anybody on here still at Peterson or been to Peterson recently that could enlighten me as to what I might be missing? My Detachment is "looking into it" but their track record for timely responses isn't very good so I thought I'd ask here.
  14. -1 I think having an undershirt showing looks terrible. Its called an UNDERshirt for a reason, you aren't supposed to see it.
  15. Seeing the motorcycle owners thread inspired me to put this one up.
  16. I have a few other ones but I'm not sure what the rules are on scantily clad women in pictures are on this forum.
  17. I honestly think the years of the Army running their "An Army of One" ad campaign was one of the worst things ever. We are not a military of individuals, you are part of something bigger than yourself and I think that ad campaign to me epitomized the exact opposite of what we should be looking for in recruits.
  18. What are you talking about? There is no backpay from books. You were only supposed to get $450 a semester for books.
  19. This is from an Army ROTC source but I don't see why they would be any different than an Air Force ROTC Detachment. "ADMINISTRATIVE 5-1 Cadet Status. a. Under existing law, ROTC cadets are not subject to UCMJ " And that is coming from a source on https://www.rotc.usaac.army.mil so its not just hearsay. I found some similar things on ROTC websites but figured those might not be as reliable since you never know if it was written by a Cadet or not.
