  1. 3.) Herk Driver has it correct. Less than 50% rating you'll get it offset. The advantage is that it's tax free; so in theory a portion of your retirement pay will now be tax-free. Anything 50% or more will be added on your normal retirement, also tax-free. Most of my stuff was joint, back and neck pain. I was actually denied hearing loss despite 17 yrs in the cockpit. I'm going to appeal that one.
  2. Thinking about the relationship between the Mx union and the company. Some other forums have suggested that SWA is trying to play hardball with the Mx union and that they’ll try the same tactics with Pilot’s union next contract.
  3. UAL vs SWA? Haven’t had one of these measuring contests in awhile. Are the recent SWA problems anything to consider for those of us hoping to go there?
  4. As I was reading this 3 new 365’s came on my email for O-5’s. All next summer to an undesired location.
  5. Similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago. Apparently everyone before me had dwell time or a good excuse that the CC believed, so he said I’ve been picked, and I leave next week. I informed him that I have no ADSC and will be going right now to separate (before an official notification), and I was at 18 yrs then. When I informed him that there are many dudes that have an ADSC and couldn’t say no, it was like he had never thought about that concept. Don’t assume your CC knows anything about the regs. Other replies are correct, 179’s are totally up to the wing CC.
  6. No, totally random. 50 cars will go by, then they just mosey into traffic and wave some poor soul to the side.
  7. Having to stop for 15 min, after the end of a long-ass day, to have my vehicle inspected while LEAVING the base.
  8. Looking for advice on when to set an availability date prior to official retirement. Currently I’m taking anticipated leave balance + 20 days PTDY and backing that up from my official retirement date in the summer of 2019. Is that the way to go or do I need to consider other factors? Also, anyone know when/if MPF requires you to do a final out in person? I’d appreciate any thoughts; seems like everyone I talk to has a different opinion.
  9. https://buffalonews.com/2017/06/19/airlines-draft-proposal-weaken-flight-safety-law-passed-wake-flight-3407-crash/ Any chance this passes? If so, would military stay at the top of the hiring pool? The AF must love the part about airlines giving us a bonus to leave military flying!
  10. It doesn't change with a change in rank, just a PCS. I kept thr O-4 rate for two years because the O-5 rate for my base had dropped so low.
  11. Slight thread derailment. I noticed in 36-2110 that both STRD and ODSD play a part in Short Tour selection. I was always under the impression that Short Tours were based solely on STRD. Any idea how ODSD plays into Short Tours? I have an Overseas long tour which puts my ODSD 6 years closer to present day than my STRD, so I'm hoping that gives me a little breathing room.
  12. I have nothing to add, other than another data point. I just went over 17 yrs active service, but am seriously considering going reserves and trying for the airlines now. I'd be turning down a healthy retirement, but three years is still three years. I don't know if I can follow the dipshits they put in charge these days. But the AF will be fine, my 3700 rated hours will be replaced by someone else with 200-ish. Nothing lost.
  13. Getting back to the original poster's question, yes, there is a special tour of Pearl Harbor available for military members. Contact the Public Affairs Office at Naval Station Pearl Harbor and they should point you in the right direction. I believe it's mainly a boat tour around the entire harbor, but not sure if they drop you off at the memorial or not. It's one of those things that isn't published anywhere, but it's available.
