I think I probably did give him the not sure if serious look. That might explain why they declined to hire me. Cragspider, you're always a total smart ass but yes I did explain that to him along with several other mil vs civ things. The two pilots in the interview had NO concept of military flying which is why I wanted to bring it up.

This may have been covered earlier in this thread but just a tip to mil guys applying to airlines: go through your logbooks and update up to your last flight and include instrument approaches, cross country, etc. As a mostly mil guy I didn't even consider this but to the F/O doing my interview it was a big deal that I "couldn't prove that I was instrument current" despite being a current and qualified tanker bubba.

I have a 2008 Tundra Crewmax and love it. I've had it about 2 years and 45k miles and nothing but routine maintenance. If you haul people often (or occasionally sleep in the cab on long trips) the backseat in the CrewMax is BY FAR the most comfortable on the market. Only downside is the gas mileage. I get 15.5 on oversized heavy semi aggressive BFG Rugged Terrains. When it comes time to get a new truck in a few years, it'll probably be between a Tundra and an Ecoboost.

Study: Nuclear Force Feeling 'Burnout' from Work

"These midlevel commanders would help decrease the “micromanaging” from higher commanders that missileers have complained about." Shenanigans! -
The Bone may not be the best as CAS but it's certainly better than the A-10 at strategic bombing and all those other things pawnman listed. When the military-industrial complex determines what equipment we need then we're tying our own hands both economically and militarily.

ATIS is gone now so it's maybe 8%. I think most of the IPs will give you a little more reign. Use that to your advantage. I'm not saying you can release the class from formal release (at least not at first, but it can be done) but once you learn the game, you can do little things to make it easier on everyone. In short, don't be a douche, work hard, play the game, win.

The regionals are basically hiring anyone that meets FAA requirements...even if they have to add .3 per sortie for taxi time to get to that 750 (totally legal and legit but shows how desperate the regionals are to get people). I don't know anyone that already had a restricted ATP BEFORE they got hired though because the sim check counts as your ATP practical.

She metaphorically bitch slapped him over the 1% comment as she well should have. More hyperbole from another manager. I do think the 90% pass/fail number is valid. As stated previously in this discussion, people were not cheating to get the 90% required to pass; they were cheating to get the 98% required to be eligible for a trainer/evaluator job. There was one point in the interview where Mrs. Stahl asked how many of them had been stuck out for 48 or 72 hours. I thought that was a great opportunity for them to bring up their monthly schedule. It's not getting stuck out for 48 or 72 hours that sucks. It's the 8 (I'm guessing many more than that at Malmstrom right now) times a month that are closer to 36 hour days, the 2 other days of testing, the minimum of 1 trainer ride, an evaluation every 3rd month, the additional duty days, the days and days spent on inspection prep....it all adds up to a mental grind that sucks the life out of you. I guess that's a bit beyond the simple scope of her interview though. At least she did bring up how busy an alert is; not exactly just sitting around like everyone assumes. Testing office? What's that? Disclaimer: I've been out of missiles for several years now so that may actually exist. -
Fact. The Guam NEX is far superior than the Andersen BX in terms of....well, everything really. I actually bought clothes there. I didn't know if that was isolated or if that was something the Navy just did better than AF. So if the BX isn't subsidized like the commissary, what do they pay for in terms of rent/utilities/taxes?

False. You sound like one of the Cold War relics in the big offices of the missile wings. Let's say we're neighbors having an argument and were both pointing guns at each other's heads. You have a .45 colt cowboy action revolver and I have a 50 bmg semi auto. You have no other guns in your home but I am loaded up like Fort Knox. Disregarding reaction time, does one of us have an advantage over the other? No. If either of us pulls the trigger were both dead. Just because I have a bigger gun (hehe) doesn't make me "less" dead. Nor do all my other guns. By the same analogy, if you have bigger nukes or more nukes (to a point) like Russia, you don't have an advantage because getting shot in the face with a cowboy action revolver still makes you very dead. If I'm being unclear (I blame the gin), I'm saying we don't need as many nukes or upgraded ICBMs to maintain a credible threat to counter the threat of any other country with a nuke and a viable delivery system. -

I went from active duty missileer to Guard pilot and if there's one thing I continually remind myself of it is that I am continually on the greener side of the fence. Those poor bastards. -
"Bought some new batteries for my favorite toy" "Put on my sluttiest clothes and headed to the Florabama" "Got fat" Seriously though, how did this girl (as in little, self-conscious, insecure girl) become an officer?

Has anyone done the instructor guided discussion module in the new SOS? How long did it take? How painful? Thanks.

Next time you're in Hickam do yourself a favor and find a Hawaiian Islands Brewing Company Macadamia Nut Brown Ale. One of the best beers I've ever had. I certainly didn't expect that from a brewery in Honolulu.

Do yourself a favor and get the HHonors card and put the hotel on it. Also keep an eye on their website for promotions where you sign up for double or triple points. You should be able to get close to 500k points if you do it right.

I listened to the tower feed and he was giving vectors to a Skywest on a go around. I couldn't quite figure out if he was in front of the asiana flight or going around because of the crash but my first thought was windshear. Perhaps a steep idle approach coupled with windshear caused them to get slow on short final and the engines being in idle took too long to spool up to regain airspeed in time. Of course that's pure speculation. Anybody know if 30 flaps is a standard setting for landing in a 777?

National Air Cargo 747 Crash at Bagram
F16Rooster replied to TacAirCoug's topic in General Discussion
I used to load mail containers on 747's, 727's, and DC-10s. The containers were held in place using metal flip up stops. Does the floor in question have those same stops? Pretty sure I can see a couple of them but that doesn't mean that they're useful for that load. Just a thought. I know nothing of securing loads in military aircraft or MRAPS specifically. -
I've been considering the CA but was worried that the tanker cockpit may be a bit too noisy for it. Do you think it would seal out enough noise or should I look at LS Zulu's?

Thank God that has his full attention. The rest of the Air Force is running fine with no input required.

Interest rates right now are so low (3.25ish) you might do better to leave that money where it's at. Especially if you can avoid the mortgage insurance.

If the receiver comes in too fast, the 1950's A/P can't keep up with the trim changes. When it disengages, it can have quite a nose down out of trim condition. Hence the reason for 1 foot per second closure. Back on topic: Where to base it will come down, as it always does, to politics. All these analyses of number of tails and convenient receivers probably isn't even a consideration.

A few more Altus inputs: There is a really good elk hunt on Ft. Sill about 1 hr away from Altus. The gun hunt is pretty hard to get drawn for but the archery hunt is much easier and depending on what area you're drawn for, it's one of the better hunts I've ever seen. Their regulations are pretty complex and hard to grasp but worth it. There is also a fair amount of whitetail and hogs. PM me if you want my inputs on where you should go. There are more and more crashpads available and if you don't want hotel points, I would recommend getting one of these even if you don't have a nonA letter. They're well-outfitted (big screen tv's, stocked kitchens, etc) and living in a hotel for 5 months sucks. Grapevine Cafe and Buena Vista are the two best places in town to eat.

I was thinking possibly hypoxic as well but they seemed...unpracticed?... from the get go. At least with checklist discipline and comms.

If you end up going to Columbus, PM me and I'll try to give you some guidance.
