Tuition Assistance - Am I getting screwed?
Nineline replied to MooseAg03's topic in General Discussion
HercDude, did HeloDude accurately sum up your opinions on why you don't want a white jet gig at this time? I only ask because I've never done the AETC thing, also have school age children, and have been seriously considering white jets as a different avenue to stay in the cockpit. -9- -
Along that line of thinking, I think most everyone in the military, both O's and E's alike, are underpaid for the work they do. But I'll admit that I don't quite know what drives the difference between an Under Secretary and an Assistant Secretary except that one is more important than the other. -9-

According to the recording when you call the ACP number at AFPC, the actual guy holding this up is Daniel B. Ginsberg, the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. I found it interesting that Assistant Secretaries are paid at an SES-IV level which equates to roughly $155K/yr + locality pay. It's also interesting to see that this guy's political affiliation is contrary to the majority of serving Americans. -9-

So, is the Air Staff just sitting on this year's ACP and hoping all of the eligibles will forget about it? Most of the eligibles I know were on the fence about staying or leaving *with* the bonus. The decision seems pretty easy without it! Let me do the math: No bonus + no committment + sequestered flying hours + guard/reserve hiring + airline potential = What's the downside? If you plan on punching, punch early! The rest will be stuck when Big Blue catches onto the mass exodus and uses Stop Loss or other drastic measures to curb it. -9-

I haven't heard of this.. can you elaborate? -9-

Guard bubba to UPT IP

Why not? -9- -
Yes, it has. There is a fellow deployed with me who is a passed over Capt with continuation to 20. I think I'd rather not be continued if I was in that boat, but that's just me. -9-

ANG/AFRC Pilot Bonus
Nineline replied to Nineline's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
So, I found the info on the portal... thanks for the vector. One more (stupid) question... is it possible for a TR to score a a 3-year set of orders and get a bonus? -9- -
Does anyone have any info on the stipulations for the ANG/AFRC ACP bonus? I tried searching with no luck. -9-

Coincidentally, USAFA had a B-2 flyby for this past Saturday's kickoff. I wonder what happened first... were the uniforms in response to the flyby, or the flyby in response to the uniforms? -9-

Now I'm curious. Which FTU? Or is that "close hold" info? -9-

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
Nineline replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
Alright.. let's start over. Do you wish to stay in base housing at McChord or do you wish to stay off base? If you wish to stay in base housing, you will get END BAH until your wife uses the POA and is assigned housing. Once housing is assigned, you will no longer get BAH. (Unless McChord is doing that whole privatized housing BS, where you do get BAH but your privatized "rent" is the exact amount of your BAH.) If you wish to stay off base, you will get END BAH until you (not your spouse) arrive. Once you arrive, you will begin receiving McChord BAH. The reasoning is that BAH is your allowance, not your spouses, and is determined when you show up. Reason #69 why having a TDY enroute sucks financially. -9- -

AFAIK, you don't get BAH if you're assigned housing. -9- -
Didn't see this posted yet... looks like Hawker Beech thought they would have a better chance of a re-attack bid if the AT-6 was already in production. https://www.aopa.org/...&WT.mc_sect=gan Also, I don't know how HB will put a positive spin on the AT-6 if they are indeed bought out by the Chinese: https://www.aopa.org/aircraft/articles/2012/120710hawker-negotiates-with-china-suitor.html?WT.mc_id=120713epilot&WT.mc_sect=gan -9-

Actually, there's been a few more than two. Lately, it seems that there's been one or two heavy drivers hired in every interview group. Also, the B-2 isn't ACC, it's AFGSC now. And my advice would be to avoid any AFGSC assignment at all costs unless you absolutely love nukes and Barksdale is your idea of paradise. AFGSC is still the new kid on the block and their primary focus is a) not get blamed for another nuke fvck-up and b) to legitimize themselves. Taking care of their people comes in at a distant third. -9-

Answer: e) Both a and b Even though I havent taken the course in question personally, I am one of the most recent grads from JFSC and have a good friend from my seminar who has taken this. General consensus among students and faculty is that all the hype is uncalled for and detrimental. All students I know have nothing but praise for the instructor and his insight into radical Islam. It really is a shame that all the meaningful and mutually beneficial discussions that took place will not take place any longer due to the failure of non-attribution. For me, the open and frank discussions without the worry of sticking to "party lines" is what made the whole JFSC experience worthwhile. -9-

I've been given a PCS with a 2-week TDY enroute and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this without getting ripped off in the process. Facts: -The TDY is a 15 hour drive in the complete opposite direction of the PCS (30 hrs roundtrip) -We will only have one car available during this time -I have a family that needs a place to live while I'm TDY -I'm told to expect that the AF will not pay for them to accompany me on the TDY -The TDY begins 29 May (right after the four-day memorial day weekend), which means that the latest I can outprocess my current base is 24 May (5 days prior) -I have three weeks on the backside between the TDY end and my RNLTD Questions: -I'd prefer to fly roundtrip the TDY location from my current base (leaving the fam in place) and then drive the fam to my new assignment after TDY complete. Is this allowable and are there any catches to this? How is the reimbursement for this calculated? -What if I wanted to depart and return to two different airports for the TDY? -If I do fly, will I be charged leave 25-27 May due to having to outprocess early? How are the travel days computed? -Will TMO give me problems if I request the movers to show 2+ weeks after outprocessing the base? -9- -
Here's a pic of the SA field grade I picked up last month: -9-

I can't vouch for the quality, but I'm amazed at how cheap it is now to put together a functioning AR! I got an email from classic arms today that lists a complete Delton carbine upper for $380. Additionally, they offer the same upper with a LPK plus buffer tube/stock for $450, meaning that the only thing you'll need is a stripped lower which can be had for as little as $60. If you're a polymer fan, also listed in the email is a complete Plumcrazy lower for $130. I've never tried these, but the price is nice and if you combine it with the Delton upper then you have a complete AR for $510 plus shipping/FFL. I know it's not mil-spec, but if it's just a range toy how much do you need to spend? Discuss. -9-

Your posting skills are lacking - the link text is right but the said link is bad. It should be like this.

Since we're talking about ADPs... I've recently found that the ADP is fvcking worthless for those with nuke experience (msyelf included). The only way a dude with nuke experience will get a choice on thier ADP is if it magically matches with where AFPC wants to put you. IMHO, the majority of ADPs only exist to give AFPC a metric on how bad they're fvcking you over. -9-

Apparantly Kandahar has suffered a significant increase of "personal satisfaction" to the point of it hampering the infrastructure -- see attached letter for evidence. Most of us know the real reason for shower shoes. If you didn't, this should give you a clue. -9- ECL.pdf
