  1. PM me your .mil address and I'll send you what I got. No promises though, as it's the same info from when I placed an order four years ago. -9-

So, I finally decided to get off my ass and order me one of those great CMP Garands mentioned earlier in this thread. However, it seems I have bad timing since all of the value priced service grades are currently not available for order. I've also been in the market for a solid bolt action for deer season and decided it makes sense to buy one in .30-06 to share with the M1. After a lot of calling and research, I headed off to my local Wally World to buy a Remington 700 ADL with a cheap scope for $397 plus tax. However, when I got there I was surprised to find a Savage 110 with the accu-trigger and a cheap Bushnell scope for the same price. It was a tough choice, as the 700's reputation and large availability of parts is hard to beat, but I just couldn't pass up the legendary accuracy and trigger of the Savage so I brought it home today. Next up is a quality scope, right now I'm thinking a Leupold or Nikon 3-9x40. I'll post a range report when I sight it in... Hopefully the Savage accuracy won't let me down! -9-
  3. Looking for a little n00b help from those who have the interweb skillz.... Yesterday I found out that I was the victim of debit card fraud after noticing some unauthorized charges in my checking account. After calling the merchant where the fraud was generated, I was able to convince him to give me the IP address from the fraud source: 173.234.216.236. Other than having it included in a police report, what else can this be used for? -9-

Can you post the link to the price drop? The only cheaper one I found was $10 less but only included a 10 rd mag instead of a 22 rounder. -9-

I was doing some gun browsing and ran across this GSG on Bud's: https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/955/products_id/63347 It seems like a good price from what little I know of 'em. Is this one of those traps that need more money thrown at it to make it perform as intended, or is it good to go right out of the box? If you do have one, are you happy with it? -9-

I'm not a huge fan of wheel guns (yet?), but I ran across this S&W 638 Airweight revolver in .38 special on Bud's site for LE and military today and it got my attention. What makes this even more attractive is the ongoing military S&W rebate that knocks an additional $50 off the price. All said, it looks to be one of the better deals out there. -9-
  7. This statement peaked my curiousity. Can you expand on this at all? -9-
  8. Speaking of Sun N Fun, anyone headed there over the weekend? I'll be there tomorrow for sure. -9-
  9. Ugh, I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit. Of all people to comment on this, Fox News chooses Scott O'Grady and praises him as a national hero. UFB! -9-

Whiteman is selling 'em too. BTW, a Ruger LCP after this 10% off all Ruger "fire arms" is $257 out the door. I'll pick mine up on Friday. -9-

M2, You ever consider buying one of these? I never seen one of 'em in person, but AIM Surplus has them in stock. What are your thoughts? Mandatory pic: -9-

My two favorite online places to buy 7.62x39 is Aim Surplus and SGammo.com. Aim is especially nice if you're buying a case or more due to the quantity discounts. I'll also add a plug for Cabela's (the retail store, not online). I went there a few weeks ago and found that they're selling Tula white box for $4/box, and then they took 10% off that with the military ID. In this day and age, $3.59/box of 20 is a steal! -9-

Luck was good to me yesterday! I ran across a deal for a new in box Arsenal SLR-107CR plus a bayonet and seven mags (1 5rd factory, 3 metal 20rd, and 3 metal 30rd) for $815 shipped! Considering that I was looking at spending $650-700 on a SLG20, this seems like a great deal. (Thanks BigFreddie and M2!) Now, my next hurdle is to sell my Mini Thirty at the gun show today and not get ripped off. Stock pics below of the SLR-107CR. -9-

I did a little browsing on GunBroker, and it seems the majority of Yugo underfolders are made by Century. Are these plagued by the canted front sights as well? Is there a specific brand of Yugo that is superior? -9-

    Gun Talk

Well, I stopped by the gun store again to check out the 91/30's I mentioned previously, and couldn't justify pulling the trigger. I think I would have if they had a carbine version, but no luck there. With that said, I still have a thirst for a Soviet com-bloc war machine, so I now have another idea. I've had a Ruger Mini-Thirty SS in 7.62x39 for about 10 years now and it's in great shape. I got it new on a trade (I orginally wanted a Mini-14 instead, but the dealer didn't have one of those at the time of the trade) and have no issues with it. However, I believe that the Ruger isn't any more accurate or reliable than a WASR-10 or Arsenal's Saiga and I love the amount of AK stuff there is compared to the Ruger. As an added bonus, if I can pull a hundred or two in cash out of the deal, that'll help resupply my ammo stockpile even more. I'm not too smart on AK's (never owned one) so I really don't know what to look/ask for at the gun show this weekend. Anyway, I'm looking for some advice and opinions on what to do. -9-

On a slightly different topic, I stopped by my local gun shop the other day and saw that they had a new shipment of Mosin Nagant 91/30s in. They had the hex receiver and suspiciously "matching" numbers -- i.e. a few parts had non-matching serials that were stricken through with the matching serial stamped underneath. Overall, they looked to be in good condition with marked but unbroken stocks and came with a sling, double mag pouch, bayonet, and a few cleaning accessories. The dealer was selling them for $100 each out the door. What are your guys' thoughts? I can't tell if this is market price or an actually good deal. Truthfully, the only reason I haven't picked one up yet is because they're everywhere and I don't know the good ones from the trash. If this is truly a good deal, I'd hate to pass this up and see that these are selling for $300+ five years from now. -9-

Well, I finally received all the parts I ordered and finished my Spike's AR build. I initially was going to go with a mid-length 16" upper, but the one I ordered was damaged in shipping and Aim Surplus didn't have any more, so instead of patiently waiting for them to get more in stock (haven't had them since!) I exchanged it for a carbine length lightweight upper. I then bought the lower directly from Spikes ( a little to quick to pull the trigger, I could've saved $20 by buying it through Brownells instead) and the Magpul MOE lower kit from Palmetto State Armory. I also bought a Troy DOA rear BUIS and a few PMags from Aim when I got the upper. All told, I spent about $920 on all the parts including shipping and am really happy with the outcome. When I refill my wallet, my wishlist for future purchases include an EOTech EXPS 2 red dot sight, a sling, and a MOE handguard with front grip. -9-

You're right. From what I've seen, there isn't much, if any, of a price advantage of buying parts over a pre-built gun -- as long as you're not picky about the details. Once you start customizing the rig, it saves a little as you can compare prices between vendors and not pay for baseline parts just to replace them with upgraded items. Speaking of parts, does anyone have a good source for a competitively priced mil-spec M4 stock assembly, either in parts or as a kit? I need everything but a buffer, and I'm not finding much. -9-

Thanks for the help, Timbonez! Well, I wasn't planning on purchasing anything yet, but I was looking around today and ran across a deal that was too good to pass up. I bought the Spike's mid-length upper, a Troy rear DOA sight and 3 PMags for $642 shipped from Aim. By my math, that saves me over $120 from buying from Spikes directly! Now I just have to find a deal on a lower and I'm all set. I have hopes that I'll run across a good deal on that at a gun show here in a few weeks. If not, Spike's has their complete lower on special for $250 including an M4 stock. Now, however, my biggest problem is how I'm going to break this to my wife! -9- Edit to add: I googled RDIAS and found out it stood for "Registered Drop-In Auto Sear". Is this what's needed to make it an illegal full-auto evil black gun? If that's the case, I'm guessing it's not required.

    Gun Talk

I'm looking for a little help from those who know their way around AR's. Without ever owning an AR before, I'm attempting to sort out the most economical way to build a good AR. I've narrowed my manufacturers down to Spike's Tactical and CMMG, both of who I've heard great things about. I also heard that it is cheaper to buy the lower and upper separately since it eliminates the paying the Federal Excise Tax of 10%. After a few nights of research, I've settled on a 16" barrel, 1:7 twist, midlength gas system, picatinny rail, Troy BUIS, Magpul CTR stock and grip. I've picked all of this out based on what other people have said, so please educate me if any of this sounds odd! Now here's where I need help: When I go to Spike's Website, I can find exactly what I'm looking for (I think). However, when I go to CMMG's website I find this and am faced with an array of options. Do I need to choose a gas piston system, and if so which one? And what is a full auto carrier and why is it my only option? Of course, I'm also going to need a lower to finish off this build. Spike's has this stripped lower on special, but I'm going to need more than that obviously to complete this project. My best guess is that I'll need the stock, trigger guard, buffer assembly, their lower parts kit, and a castle nut and end plate. Am I missing anything? Maybe it's worth it to pay a little more and just get the complete lower that's already assembled; what do you guys think? Thanks for the help. -9-

Ok, so I convinced the frau that I needed another 9mm to help dwindle the 2K rounds of 9mm I have. After much research, I finally settled on Springfield's XDM 3.8 in 9mm and found a great price on Gunbroker ($510 shipped!). I bought from a place called Jet Guns who appears to have the best prices around, with free shipping and no extra charges for using a credit card. The interesting part, however, is that their no kidding listed street address is Paris, KY; the exact same address where I thought Budsgunshop.com was also located. However, it now seems that Budsgunshop.com has completely moved to Lexington, KY and fully vacated their old place in Paris. Could it be that a new internet gun shop has taken up business in Bud's Gun Shop's old storefront and is now undercutting them on prices? Admittedly, Jet Gun's selection isn't as vast as Bud's, but their prices are awesome, shipping is quick and cheap (UPS 2nd Day Air for free!), and you don't have to fuss with a money order to save 3%! Furthermore, it looks like Jet Guns has been doing business for a while, since they have over 275+ positive reviews on Gunbroker. Don't get me wrong -- I love Bud's; but you can't beat Jet Gun's prices or service! -9-

For those who carry concealed out there, what's your preferred carry piece and ammo? I'm relatively new to the CCW scene, and my current pistol is a Glock 26 9mm with 13 rds of 147gr Winchester Ranger SXT +P. I am curious what all of you other guys got, since you probably have a lot more experience carrying than me. -9-

Funny, I was just checking out one of these at the local BX yesterday and noticed how attractive the price was. If I remember correctly, it was about $310 or so. You'll have to let me know how it shoots, as I sold my only bolt action years ago and have yet to replace it! -9-

Is it worthwhile to build my own with piecemeal uppers and lowers or is it more cost effective (keeping quality the same) just to buy the Spike's Tactical you mentioned above? I'm just trying to get a feel of what would get me the most bang for the buck (no pun intended.) -9- Edited for clarification

Regarding AR-15s, are there any specific brands to stay away from? Looking around Bud's, they have a few ARs that seem really cheap, such as a Doublestar for $659, an Olympic Arms for $628, and a DPMS for $728. For those in the know, what are your feelings about any of these three? Or should I just suck it up and buy a Colt? -9-
