Ehh, they have a pill for that these days...right?

What a fucked up way of saying "thanks for your service."

Lol, right! They could start by not sending ARC Fighter squadrons on these bullshit TSPs, to go sit and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Use us to supplement the AD on deployments to actual combat ops and give the AD squadrons a break/spread out their deployments.

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
SocialD replied to ClearedHot's topic in Squadron Bar
My understanding is that our spare iPad will be assigned to each jet and kept at the ops desk. 1COs will ensure they're charged and kept up to date an handed out at step. I could be off on that, my discussion with OGV was a few drinks in before a roll call. -

First In Jawbreaker Horse Soldiers If you haven't read them, they are 3 great books that cover the first few months of the war in Afghanistan. First In was written by the first CIA officer on the ground in the days following 9/11, and Jawbreaker was written by his replacement. They cover the killing of Mike Spann and the friendly fire incident during the Battle of Qala-I-Jangi, to name a few. All 3 books have some overlap but tell some amazing stories.

Still no pay bump for this ANG guy. That's great, a good finance is worth their weight in gold! I wish I could say the same about our finance. I just wish I could go back to the days of paper vouchers, paper 105s, etc...

If true, this could make an appearance in the conversation going on in the "Being masculine is bad" thread. An FEB for this, really....better do something visible! Hope this is just some bad rumor being floated. Sir, I was trying out a figure 8 cap, committed down track, red air drug, I aborted and returned to the hold.

To add to the post above. If you haven't already, it's never to early to start creating your binder o' justice. Some of this was completely unnecessary/overkill (High school transcript), but having this binder already made up, made life much easier when filling out applications and going to interviews. I bought a 3 ring binder, plastic sleeve protectors and made 5 copies of everything...just don't lose it. - Cover Letter (never needed it) - Resume (never needed it) - High School Transcript (never needed it ) - High School Diploma (don't think I ever used it for anything other than my GPA) - College Transcript (ordered 5 copies...AAL required sealed transcripts) - Driving Record - Passport - ATP Written Results - All DD-214s (ARC guys get multiple throughout their career) - OPRs - Form 8s - From 942 - Birth Certificate - Social Security Card - Aviation Certificates - FAA medical (Class 1) - FCC Restricted Radio Operators Certificate - Driver License - Letters of Recommendation - Voided Check (for you desired bank account) - Current proof of residence (mortgage/utility bill) - List of references, their address and phone number - List of residence history (with addresses, dates and contact info for any roommates) - List of work history (addresses, dates, phone number, name of supervisor) - List of civilian schooling (addresses, dates, degrees earned) - List of military schooling (addresses, dates, supervisors) - List of volunteer work (names and dates) - Military Graduation Certificates/awards (UPT/IFF/FTU/etc...) - Educational Awards - Marriage Certificate...and Divorce Certificate - Any information pertaining to arrests, driving tickets, etc... - I don't have a wife or kids so I'm not sure what all is required to get them in the system, but it could hurt to add in whatever is need to input them in the system during indoc (Birth certificate? SSN?). I just seem to remember everyone calling their spouses to track down the info during break.

Delta 330 FO - Hired in mid 2014. Once you get to a WB, expect to work 9-15 days/month for 69-90 hours of pay, while flying a line. With reserve it's 12-15 hard no-fly days, for 72-80 hours of pay. If you live in base, life on WB reserve is pretty awesome. Haven't touched a jet in 21 days and don't go back on call for another 6 days...my beard is getting out of control. Admittedly, it's the slow time of year...summer months you'll likely get used more on reserve. I highly recommend ECIC as they helped me immensely as they helped me get hired at 2 legacies. I never actually went to one in person, I only did the online preps and I felt that they were more than adequate. Also did a phone top-off prior to each interview. I've probably lost the pulse of the interview process, but can answer questions on the day-to-day life. My biggest piece of advice is to go wherever you can live in base. Living in base is the single most important item for QOL. I don't care how much someone justifies, "well it's an easy commute." It's still a commute and nothing beats driving to work. Always glad to answer questions and help. Pay...as always sucked on 1st year pay, but it's up to $88/hr in 2018 ($91 in 2019). Year 2 you'll likely be around your mil pay depending on your rank/bonus. Year 3, I have blown my mil pay out of the water...I'm a 16 year, O-4 that's still ineligible for the bonus (UPT commitment). That was with half the year on a NB and half on the WB. Albie Hagan posted these quite a few years ago, but they still ring true. Both are great posts. For any who don't know Albie is a former Eagle driver/FDX Captain/ECIC owner (I beleive). https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/military/56541-timing-your-exit-2011-update.html https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/hiring-news/73838-avoiding-square-corners.html

No. He had signed up at one point, but that course had expired and he never reenrolled. My class leader in SERE was a former harrier driver (O-4 type) converting to Hogs in the ANG. I'm not sure how much he fought the battle, but it's beyond ridiculous that the AF would not accept the Navy/Marine SERE. As you can imagine, his excitement for being there was pretty low, the instructors picked up on it, he still didn't care. It was pretty hilarious, while still sad... Best of luck on the waiver.

We just had another guy promote to O-4 via ROPMA, that had not completed SOS. Otherwise yes, we're required to have SOS completed.

Do you guys still have a "no-commute" policy? Legitimately asking for a bro. -
APZ active duty, IPZ reserve?
SocialD replied to Broke's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Does your leadership place an emphasis on a masters? Aside from the former AD guys in our squadron and the few guys who legitimately got one for their civilian jobs, none of our guys have a masters. I've never even heard of it as a consideration for our promotion. However, I have been guest help at a few other squadrons where getting a masters was considered a "non-requirement," requirement. One of those states actually paid for these guys to get a masters, which was a pretty good deal. What I don't understand is the states that essentially force everyone to ROPMA for their Major board. I know of two states that do this and the only reason I've ever heard is that it's a control grade issue...which is pretty much bullshit. Lt Col has control grade issues but we're all in Major billets, so the spots are there. I have been a major for over 2 years and there are peeps from my AMS class that are just now getting promoted. For the life of me, I can not imagine why leadership, especially in todays environment, would hold their guys back from promotion. -

Yes it's Guard. GS-12 step 1 is the min you'll see in my squadron, however for now, GS-13 is the min. I have heard of AFRC giving out GS-9s? What a fucking joke. We already have Captains going to the regionals over GS-13 jobs, I can't imagine what it would look like with anything less than GS-12. -

Lol, just because they cut the "slots," doesn't mean they're not short on manning. Now if they cut the aircraft/crew ratio, which I think the heavies did a few years back, then it make sense (kinda)... They've been stringing people along since I can remember. Many took the bait, but it was easy to see through their bullshit. To their credit things have improved dramatically since 2011-2012ish. Back then they wanted me to go from a 10+ year Captain on ADOS orders to a GS-12 step 1 (take it or leave it)...for those that haven't look at the number, that's a pretty decent pay cut. Now they're bringing guys right off seasoning days (non-IP) into GS-13s spots. Then they offered a tech bonus for all my friends...no wait, what we meant to say was, it's for IPs near 1500 hours. LOL! I've also been hearing about a part timer bonus for a 3ish years now. But in all honesty, a 5k/yr bonus isn't going to do much to keep me around after 20, so it probably would be a waste of tax payer dollars. I can make more than that by picking up a single 3 day trip, in a year. I'll also lose more than that, per month that I'm on orders, to deploy yet again...to do nothing... -
Still the same old flight pay here. Guard guy. I'm anxiously awaiting that $1.66 per pay card, raise...

1,000 Retired Pilots Can Be Recalled to Active Duty
SocialD replied to LookieRookie's topic in General Discussion
We're only authorized so many pilots, and we're actually pretty full on pilots right now. It's just that now have a disproportionate amount of pilots on the part-timer side of the house...most of them now want to stay part time. We're also in a weird phase where we have zero dudes, who have their 20 (aside from leadership and prior-Es), that are still hanging on. For now, we're not going to force out a bro that is short of his 20, just to hire another guy to fill a full-time spot. I look to see people to start exiting right at 20, counting their enlisted time, whereas before most guys would stay until 20 years as an officer. If the AF/ARC were truly serious about fixing some of the issues, they would have already solved the problem. But they're not serious, so we'll continue to flounder, scrape by and drive more guys out/part time... Example, I was asked what would make me consider sitting alert again...I say bring back 3 for 1s. They say, not happening...ok, then I'm not sitting alert. If they were serious, they would bring back 3 for 1s. However, our alert sites dutifully report on status every day, so there must not be a problem...right? -

Im not sure about others, but my squadron can't even keep our full time spots filled. No shortage of guys trying to show up off AD, just shortage of part timers willing to take AGR/Technician jobs. I can't imagine this will help much. -

Just had this very discussion with the other FO yesterday, coming back from a particularly awesome European layover. Former 11F (O-4/WIC type), now a 4 year WB FO, soon to be NB CA. Here were his demands for a staff gig. - 130k/yr bonus (difference in his expected NB CA pay and O-4 pay) that increases 5k for every year he's back on AD. - Choice of his assignment/location - No deployments or involuntary TDYs - 8 hour work days - Auto approval of all leave submissions (up to the yearly limit) - No OPRs - No work at home (email and blackberry stay in the office) - No SARC training/CBTs/ORIs/MICT/PT test (although passing one clearly isn't a problem for this guy) - Reimbursement for a property management company to take care of his house while he is gone - A clause that states anytime finance denies any of his moving expenses/damaged goods, he can void the contract - DLA to and from his assignment, even the PCS to the PLEAD when he separates again - If he falls short of his 20, then ALL time counts toward early retirement credit for his part timer retirement He was willing to knock off a FEW of these items if you let him just be a line IP with no additional duties. -

I have a feeling a pilot recalled to the staff would look something like this... -
This! Many (not all...like Vegas) of those shootings would likely have had fewer casualties if just one person had fired back. A lot of the shooters, dropped and ran, gave up or committed suicide, at the first sign of resistance. Many of these shooters are comforted in the fact that they know no one will be able to fight back. They're all cowards.
