Now, when you say checklist...what exactly do you mean?

Individual ANG member mobilization
SocialD replied to PasserOGas's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
This. USERRA specifically states what orders are exempt. It all has to do with how your orders are coded (which codes are written into USERRA). I agree on both accounts. I can't see the law changing to have fewer types of orders protected. If anything, it had better get changed to add in some of these newer "deployments" that are to non-contingency locations. The Guard is not meant to deploy for 6 months on a regular basis. I can guarantee you as these type deployments become common place, the awesome retention rates that the ANG has enjoyed for so long, will quickly go away. -
Individual ANG member mobilization

It's only going to get worse my friend. It's even better when they deploy Guard squadrons to NON contingency locations in the "AEF." Works good until your part timers hit their 5 year mil leave limit. These orders are not USERRA exempt...so theoretically, their employers do not have keep their job for them. I think you're going to see a lot more guys say no...mobilize me. -
Neil trap!

This could very well be the case, but it's a database. A simple line of code would easily fix this. If this is the case, that's pretty shitty of them to do without posting that info on the website. But as I said in my previous post, I was given a DAL invite with a medical that was 9 months old.
-
In general a non-IP = GS-12, IP = GS-13. All under 2181.
-
I'm a Guard guy, still on my initial UPT commitment, so no currency issues for me. That's shitty, since the medical is good for a year for anyone under 40. I can tell you that this is NOT the case with DAL. My medical was 9 months old when I received the invite. I'm not sure "strong recs," are necessarily a requirement. I only had a few junior FOs and a new hire. The rest is right on. Have a few people run through your app and check it over for you. It's amazing what another pair of eyes will catch.

I find it hard to believe that having any particular type rating is going to be what gets you hired. Over half of my interview group were about to retire/get out after 10 years, and only two had type ratings. One was a retiree that wasn't getting called so he went to the regionals, the other had a 737 type from flying the C-40. If you're retiring and are not getting calls from the majors, I would check out the regionals. Once you finish training, go in and check 121 experience and I would bet you get called quickly. It's crap pay but I wouldn't expect to do it long...call it an investment in the future. The guy in my interview group that went the regionals had less than 25 hours with the company when was hired. I'm not a retired guy but I went to the regionals as well and had ~100 hours when I got called. Something to consider. NOTE: Unless you're targeting SWA.

What's interesting about that is it's completely 180 out from most interactions I've had with WSOs. They were always the first ones to start the dick measuring. Is there a name for pilot hating WSOs (besides NAV)?

I want to say there was a guy who at Ft. Wayne that flew Hogs then Vipers on AD. Got into the Guard flying Vipers, then switched to Hogs and now may be going back to Vipers (if he's still there). I know a guy that flew Hogs, then Eagles on AD then got into the guard flying Vipers. All kinds of crazy stories out there. If you can think it, it's probably been done. If you're trying to get back into an old airframe in the Guard, I think it would be highly dependent upon how much the Squadron wants you. Another big factor is what kind of transition course you will need. Rush the squadron and see what they say...if they like you, they'll do a lot to get you in.

Hoss, clear out your mail...trying to send you a PM.

Did you give him the "not sure if serious," look? I can't even begin to imagine why this was even talked about in the interview? I guess you could always have ARMS pull up a training report and show all the instrument approaches you've logged.

IF this is actually true, it's completely fucked up! If he has been cleared of any wrong doing, there is absolutely no reason the dash cam should not be released. I get it, cops have a dangerous gig and I have the upmost respect for that. But last time I checked, they work for US, the general public...not the other way around.

Haha, standard! No worries, the Guard MX will unfuck them, as usual...

Not sure, I'm a part timer so I usually have to use the longest words I can find to fill all the white space. It's hard to glorify, "made my sorties, almost every month..."
-
I guess "chaired Phoenix eagle board" sounds better in an OPR bullet than, "chaired MAF sq/cc selection board..."

ANG Pilot lifestyle/Quality of Life
SocialD replied to a topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Actually, depending your life/financial situation it can be the best thing going! I have regularly been able to get ~8 months of pay days, without even trying that hard. It was nice, as a captain, to make 65-70k, have 4 full months off, and not pay a dime for tricare (all w/o deploying). Being able to just up and leave for 4 weeks to do whatever I wanted, was awesome! It also provided plenty of time to build up some residual income opportunities. I would still be doing it if I hadn't gone to the airlines. Of course, being single/no kids helps! Although, if your spouse has a decent job, it can still give you a great QOL. -
So is that better or worse than banging enlisted chicks?

Edit: gravedigger got it first.

After rejection number 2, I just call the individual desks of the finance people (easier to do on Guard bases since you know them all personally), because they never answer the customer service number. Then I make them stay on the phone until I have them say my voucher should be good to go. Even then I've had them rejected... What drives me crazy is that finance, even if it's their fuck up, can't just push it through after it's been rejected. Sorry, the guard is my second job and I won't have DTS access for 3-4 weeks. Just let them know my bill may become delinquent because I'm not paying the govt bill with my money because you fucked up.

Things in the Guard are changing my friend...big time! OPRs have started getting ridiculous...
-
Not sure on that one...I'm an airline guy, so I've never dealt with airfare.
-
I can think of at least 3 other states that have an alcohol ban on National Guard facilities. We've had this rule for years now...debriefs suffer! Edit: This doesn't necessarily belong in the AF sucks thread, as there is a common theme of when these rules were imposed (not sure about he AZANG)...an Army officer running the show (ie...TAG).

Based on air travel being required to commute, i'll assume you will be a part timer. If you're a flyer then you should get 48 UTAs, 48 AFTPs and 15 days of AT per year. While on UTAs and AT days, you are entitled to billeting, but AFTPs = no billeting. So as long as you log one UTA period in a given day then you should get a hotel. Keep in mind that if you go on any kind of full time orders then you'll most likely will not be given billeting. Another option is to make friends with a single person in the squadron with a spare bedroom, and make a deal. $$$/mowing the lawn/stocking the beer/offering to be DD, are all acceptable forms of payment depending on the person. As far as tranpo, unless you want to be "that guy," the easiest method is to drop a little cash on an "airport car" that you leave wherever your base is located. The tricky part is convenient parking. Is your base on a major airport with airline service? If so you may be able to wheel n' deal with one of the various parking lots for a reduced rate. If that doesn't work and there are FBOs or corporate flight departments nearby, you may be able to negotiate a parking situation with them (helps if squadron mates are employed by said departments). Some local hotels (that have shuttle service from the airport) may even work a deal with you. Small consolation, but you can write off expenses incurred while commuting to your guard/reserve gig as long as you live >100 miles from your base. As always read the reg or talk to a tax guy. BTW, commuting sucks! Feel free to PM me with questions.
