  1. Start with the OPR, or find out who has waiver authority.
  2. I knew them in that I knew their names and in passing. They flew out of the airport that our flight school got some of our mx done. It was a good shop, these three just happened to fly out of this particular airport. The mx guys showed me the aftermath of the 421 and R22...the 310 happened after I left for pilot training, can't say I was surprised. I did not associate with these guys!
  3. A CFI is not required to endorse your logbook, nor does the ATP ride require any kind of endorsement. Your instructor WAS covering HIS ass. They didn't check because its really a non-issue. My interview, they didn't even look at my logbooks. I just signed a paper saying I met ATP mins or had an ATP.
  4. Negatron. FAR (or 14 CFR 91, for the reg Nazis) says you have to keep your seatbelt on for takeoff, landing and while en-route, and your shoulder harness on for takeoff and landing (unless you are unable to do you job as a result of wearing the shoulder harness). 2! This goes along the lines, of play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I generally try to give the benefit of doubt, but I'm scratching my nugget on this one. Maybe the seatbelts are uncomfortable, or maybe there was a malfunction of the seatbelt (highly unlikely...but then again, so is your canopy flying off). Either way it sounds like this was easily preventable, and that's unfortunate. Didn't the pilot of the Aewacs, that had the tanker incident fuck up his back because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt (2nd hand info)? I'm generally not the guy that goes around quoting ever FAR (as I post a reg above), but they are there for a reason. I've known a few guys that had blatant disregard for the regs, we all have. One packed in a 310 while flying IFR, he was not instrument or multi-engine rated. Another one destroyed a beautiful 421 because he decided to fly into known icing with malfunction boots. He decided to adjust his flap setting on landing and stalled it 50 feet above the runway. He broke a wing spar, bent the engine mounts so bad that his props hit the pavement, and the plane never flew again. The last guy balled up a R22 because he decided to start it up in the hanger and taxi out...you can't make this shit up!
  5. 2! I received all the way through my ATP/CFI/CFII, prior to joinging the military. In all those check rides, I've never had an examiner endorse my logbook.
  6. I can't imagine why he would have taken his seat belt off. Aside from flying at the airlines, I can't remember a time I ever took my seat belt off.
  7. Really...he's going to let the 1% drive him out? Since when did Rainman develop a sandy vagina?
  8. Yes, or at least they did.
  9. Ever read The Yellow Green Beret series? Pretty funny books, and easy reads, from a fairly humble A team officer. He actually touches on exactly what you're talking about. Highly recommend.
  10. Having been to all of them I would list them, Sheppard, Laughlin, Columbus, Vance. Not that your dreamsheet really matters but Wichita Falls is actually a decent town. There is also lots to do nearby; OKC, DFW, Possum Kingdom, etc... You also have Austin and San Antonio for long weekends. It definitely beats Del Rio, Enid and Columbus. I actually disagree with some of the other posts. You will have plenty of free time on the weekends (not so much during the week), and having quite a few awesome places to blow off (STS) steam was great. Then again, once Friday hit, I didn't study until Sunday night. It seemed like we had quite a few 3 day weekends...maybe it's because those were all the fun times and I have blocked out the rest.
  11. Even then, it's really not worth it. Douchebags.
  12. Serious? I'm pretty sure my OG would throttle anyone who CC'd him for this.
  13. Depends...
  14. Do tell. Never heard of these (I'm ANG).
  15. Oh the joys of mastering the ANG pay system. Some of our old part-timers (especially the airline pilots) are true jedi knights at maximizing pay days and are usually the best to ask. Per Year: 48 UTA 48 AFTP (Ground/AIR) *AFTPs are divided into Quarters. *Max of 16 AFTPs/quarter *Max of 6 Ground AFTPs/quarter (12/year) - UTAs are the most flexible and can be used anytime throughout the year. Also, they can be used for flying or ground. They do not need to be used on drill weekend. As gearpig said, burn a ground AFTP if you don't fly. If I do fly, I burn a flying AFTP to save my UTAs. - AFTPs can only be used in it's individual quarter (it's true...if you don't use it, you lose it). - Things can get interesting if you are on and off orders. If you're on an AGR order for a particular month, you can not use your UTAs that month. I'm not sure of all of the specifics as they change based on what type of order it is. All I know, is if I know i'm going on orders for a month (usually not AGR), I will burn that months UTAs PRIOR to going on the orders. - My usual plan of attack to maximize pay/flying days. 1.) Burn all my Flying AFTPs first. 2.) Burn ground AFTPs next. 3.) Then burn my UTAs Things get even more fun when you start talking about Technician pay!

No good deed goes unpunished! I guess the school admin would have rather let the guy shoot the other student.

1.) Turn it off. 2.) Wait 10 seconds. 3.) Turn it on.
  22. Hmm...I wonder why?
