  1. What a novel concept... Yes, I will. I will also avoid NJ, NY and CA...CO is on shaky ground as well. A good college friend of mine has a very lucrative corporate flying gig in Chicago, but quickly moved well out into the country (northern Indiana...not Gary!), mainly for crime/tax/gun ownership reasons. One of the big factors in deciding on the Airline career was the ability to live wherever I wanted and not have a huge affect on my earnings potential (cost of living doesn't hurt either). I will avoid living in or around any large city as much as possible (but still live within short call range). Small towns, while not totally immune to crime, are where I choose to raise a family. People are more genuine, have a greater sense of community, and generally are good, hard-working Americans. Any given day, I can roll into the barber shop and there will be 6-9 people there...no one getting a hair cut. Everyone knows everyone by name and as an aside, this is a great place to get sage advice on your next big project (the old timers seem to know a little bit about a lot!). I can stop in the town diner and my breakfast shows up just how I like it, without having to order (unless I want to get crazy and switch it up!). Crime is the exception, not the rule. Our country is not what it once was, but it's still a damn good place to live and I would not trade it for anywhere. We have our problems for sure, but what place doesn't? I have experienced many other cultures, in many different countries...I like mine better! I can own guns, live where I chose, not taxed at a ridiculous rate, can travel freely, not worried about outside attack/drug cartels/roving factions murdering me, have a say in elections, don't fear corrupt police, can voice my displeasure with my govt., etc, etc,etc.... So I guess you could say, I have zero desire to ever leave this country, aside from deployments/occasional vacations. Even then, there is plenty to see here in the US. We have it damn good here in America! Some states...better than others. I'm not saying that you can't find all this outside the US. For those who go looking, I truly hope you find your Shangri-La. I guess that depends upon your idea of rural. The town in which I currently live, with 100 being the national average, has a murder rate of 16 and Robbery Rate of 14 (Chicago is 351 and 444, respectively). Most of the very rare murder cases, the parties knew each other (ie...domestic disturbances). AHHA! I have found your problem...

I give it less than 6 months before the AF suck the fun out of that place.
  3. I don't even know anyone that has had a Q-2, the worst I've heard of is a Q-1 1 hit. People fuck up, we debrief it and move on...it's what we do every day. Aside from blatant safety violations (iPad charge/reading some bs briefing verbatim...are you fucking kidding me?), what does Q-3ing someone accomplish? Instrument checks are an annoyance that get in the way of actual training missions. EDIT: Last sentence was cut off...the internet is hard.
  4. Well, the top 20% didn't earn that. We should take it and give it to the bottom 20%...
  5. Strong indeed...Should make for a good naming (or hostile renaming)!
  6. Not totally true. We're ACC and are flying (very few sorties) since we have to maintain enough CMR pilots to fulfill our ACA mission.
  7. One of our part time weapons guys is a postal worker and the stories he tells (as well as this story) are a testament to unions breeding laziness. My guess is the union will protect this person and not much will happen.

They are more worried about not offending that 1 person in the MAJCOM who gets offended by anything they don't like/agree with. We'll move on to less important things like developing our future leaders after we can go a whole year w/o 1 person being offended.
  9. But to fuck their entire career, even when the FEB says you're good to go? That's just plain fucked up!
  10. He wants that 2nd star...
  11. If I were an A-10 dude, I'd be looking for a TX.
  12. Are you kidding? Listening to the guys talk about pre-OEF/OIF days makes me jealous. I would love to get back to those days!
  13. Awesome! Although I'm sure today, it would turned into you having tried to sexually assault some poor chick while on the way out of the chow hall. The next day, your name would be drug through the mud, your picture would grace the front page of the AF times calling for the court martial of this despicable officer.
  14. Ya it's back to standard price. Picked it up yesterday for free. A good read so far.
  15. Nah man, remember that C-130J hard landing in Afghanistan...

I had to send my XD45 compact back because of some major rusting on the slide (a known issue). Called them up, was asked a few questions and they e-mailed me a postage form (prepaid postage). Dropped the slide in a box, attached the form to the outside and had it in the mail an hour later. They refinished the slide and sent it back, with two new mags for my inconvenience. Their customer service was great!
  17. The fact that you were even watching it is WTF worthy.
  18. Hold on, I'll roll over and ask her...
  19. Nice, being a DSG is one of the best jobs imaginable. Not the first and you will not be the last to do this is the next few years!
  20. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/08/02/seattle-officials-call-for-ban-on-potentially-offensive-language/ So, the term citizen is now offensive? WTF!??!
  21. Copy all on the guaranteed interview. That reminds me, all the remaining Compass pilots (not part of the flow) have guaranteed interviews in seniority order. You are correct on them still needing to operate. They could hold a few back, but I don't see them doing that right away. They are planning on hiring ~180 pilots and upgrading ~130 to captain, by next summer. That's a lot of training but they also have a 5 month (minimum) head start. From what I have read, they have ~80 in a pool and are running a class a week starting in August. There are also provisions for street Captains if needed. I agree, it will be very interesting to see how they manage it...especially if they resort to street Captains.
  22. To help manage expectations, there are about 300 pilots at Compass airlines that have flow through rights with Delta. 25% of the seniority list (~450 pilots) can flow in a rolling year, so that means ~115 will flow over to Delta by next summer. Delta assumes the November classes will be filled by voluntary furlough returnees, and Compass pilots to flow in December. This doesn't even touch the Pinnacle/Mesaba flows.
  23. Yes...wait, no? Embrear 175/195ski. Sukhois shot at the MRJ market.
  24. It probably would have turned out fine.
