Goldfein advocating FAA 1500 hour rule change???
Swizzle replied to 189Herk's topic in General Discussion
All talk and little action occuring, albiet risky, inappropriate action to ease the shortage I've heard of (ex. wash forward UPT studs, undue prof-advance pressure, and push studs through crap training expeditiously) Do, now, personnel managers/leaders feel the pinch? Are they motivated? What is the agency cost of a poorly trained and wrong-ORM-balanced aircrew pool? Are bonuses or other changes in USAF status quo worth the very real costs of poor manning management (mishaps, attrition and it's paired new-guy training burden)? Where do the black and red lines of this situation cross? Has anyone tracked these strategic ideas (not just aircrew personnel total chasing)? How bad does it need to be before the entire Gov't beauracracy recognizes, confirms, and recovers? A National Security Crisis confirmed? Will the National "purse" open up? It will cost and our purse will open up in some form or fashion, that's undeniable; whether it be via new training costs or mishap costs or bonuses or increases to USAF quality of life costs. Why stagnate and exacerbate the known problem? Senior leaders (ACC, AMC) are writing about it publicly, but perhaps the pot hasn't boiled over yet; or maybe it has and they don't want to admit to "Mom" how bad it is (ex. Finalized Rated retention reports published FY15, FY16?) So... https://access.afpc.af.mil/vbinDMZ/broker.exe?_program=DEMOGPUB.static_reports.sas&_service=pZ1pub1 ....when are they going to address the core grievances to fix the issue? OODA, gentlemen. I'd love to here where they think they are in this OODA loop, and how fast they're reevaluating/adapting? How well are they convincing the bureaucracy for change? And is it working at all levels needed? Is dialog with industry having the affect they desire? Written articles on the subject fixing it? If not, re-enter the loop...or find the heart of the matter by listening to your people and addressing their core grievances. -
Is the AF broke? Why all the changes fighting, and directives concerning pay/reimbursements....and will the pot-o-money flow again soon....?
-
Why the F' don't they just add TSP matching to any AFSC 11X or 12X or Aviation bonus payment used for TSP....the services are allowed to match.... It'd be a small upfront payment from Mother Blue for a possibly big benefit for aviators later when we're old and deaf from flying her planes.

See Safak at Pop's. I've been a customer since 1988 and still have the custom jacket he made me in great condition. PM him through the website for better results and shipping stateside.

The best part is the fighter pilots now have more taskers and award packages to draft removing more cockpit time on a thinly-manned force...yes we've shot our own foot in some regard with this "fix"...or perhaps our new Orderly rooms will absorb this
-
Short term, perhaps trivial, culture fix attempt; and a long term attempt at more thin strats to promote/retain/recognize fighter pilots...nothing more I ponder

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Swizzle replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
The money is taxed the year it is paid to you....unless you're a corporation or conduct the Irish two-step. That's why timing a PCS or DITY move voucher submission is crucial and in your control. Damn I should write a book on military fianace...at least the AF paid for my Master in Finance, maybe I can stretch it some more. -

Does Flight in CZTE Area = AFTO 781 Combat Time?
Swizzle replied to GearMonkey's topic in General Discussion
Reference your missoin symbol as well...the msn symbol "translated" into plain english normal specifies what you're supporting (i.e. "combat forces" IAW AFI 11-401 para 3.3.6 and sub-paragraphs) and gives a clue, not definitively mind you, as to what you should log. Like previously said reference hostile airspace as well. -
"Although flight schools fall into two basic categories, Part 61 or Part 141, there is a third category that bears serious consideration by prospective pilots, particularly those planning a professional piloting career: nationally accredited pilot training institutions. Accredited flight schools must meet rigid standards of accountability for virtually every area of operation and must apply to an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education."

Has anyone tried to use their regular USAF tuition assistance for an ATP certificate? At say Kirtland or Eglin? Might you have considered using it for the new ATP ground course requirement? The new ATP ground course should have a start/stop class date. AFI36-2306, 13 AUGUST 2010, *5.3.2. . Base Aero Club programs that are accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education <inserted question: FAA recognized?> and they have specific term start and end dates. *5.4.2.5. Flight courses are eligible for Mil TA when provided by an accredited program or institution and they have specific term start and end dates. 5.4.2.1. Guidance regarding lower and equal level of education to one already attained (paragraph 5.5.6.) is waived for certificates/licenses, not to exceed the master’s level. 5.4.2.2. No more than a maximum of the annual 1-year cap shall be used toward completion of a single certificate/license over an Air Force career. For example, Eglin AFB's Aero Club is a certified 141 school. This it? https://www.faa.gov/education/student_resources/schools_universities/ Or this? https://www.aabi.aero/

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness

There are nvg filters for EFBs, my sq issues them. If not available, CF-29 nvg filters can be cut to size, there are many of those floating around in the Herk world. Glow in the dark stickers or paint works well to highlight the two buttons or 3.5 mm jack. -
Internet speed and availability is 100% dependent upon village... big cities like Kaiserslautern have great Internet. Ramstein village has pretty good DSL. As of 2012, T-Mobile had decent prices for iPhones data plans but only within German borders. Sweet Jesus, don't data roam in Europe.

His vision is good. It appears a vision to wrangle all the cats in this fiscally constrained environment and future; especially in personnel, acquisitions, and schools. The notion of having a fiscal USAF strategy published at the highest levels is realistic, but will create more food fights among the different camps. We all knew the money-easily-flowing times are drying up. I'll start believing there is momentum behind his vision when Doctrine and/or AFI's governing said topics start changing...otherwise it's just banter or policy or politics. The bureaucracy runs on AFI's with a benchmark on doctrine, policy letters are easily changed with the new guy.
