That takes some balls! Safety report HERE.

Thread revival. Here at my base, they are holding the run inside due to the winter weather. No big deal right? Only if you don't mind running 24 laps around the b-ball court in the gym. It doesn't seem right or even safe to me. When I took the test in the late summer, we didn't run on the track or around a 1.5 mile course. Instead we did a 1.5 mile shuttle run (four 0.375 mile legs) thats on a slight incline. No kidding, you ran, touched a white line, then ran back to the start/finish line. I'm fairly certain that in both tests, you'll loose significant time. My run time was about 20 seconds slower than my average times I had been running in the months leading up to my test. The stop/start thing was murder. And my knees are not looking forward to the "basketball court NASCAR challenge". Does it specify in the regs on how the run is supposed to be administered?

Any chance he has a son that went to Texas A&M back while he was up at the USAFA? Trying to connect some names in my fuzzy memory....

Then there's the three way tie in the Big 12 south....BCS polls get to decide that one tomorrow. I hate the BCS.

It is the Fist of Justice. I heard the story once, but I wouldn't tell it right. Even better, I'm fairly certain that this is on the 'standard AF screen-saver' at work.

That place is an easy drive from ABQ. There's also a place on the backside of the mountain that overlooks ABQ. When I was there in April, we were told that they had good deals for AD military but were SOL because they had closed for the season. Taos, and the ski areas around there aren't all that far either. This coming from the guy who'd drive home to C-Springs on the weekends, so it's all relative I guess. -
I'm assuming your husband got C-21s? Furniture: My wife and I had the same question, buy US and ship or wait till we got here. I was hesitant on the Euro furniture, but I absolutely love the leather couch I got. It's really up to you. Check out IKEA or https://www.lederland-kaiserslautern.de/ that'll give you some ideas on what to expect here. Bikes: Bring them. One word - Autofrei! In the summer the Germans will shut down scenic roads for a day and only allow bike/rollerblade/skateboard/walking/ect on the road. I'm talking lots of road, 50+ Km. Along the way, each town/villiage will have food and entertainment. They are ton's of fun. Besides that, there are so many places to ride bikes here. Very worthwhile. Electronics: You can bring 110v stuff from the states, you will need to use transformers though. FMO will supply two large ones for you, and people PCS'ing are always selling them. My wife didn't bring a good majority of her hair styling related stuff, and it kind of sucked having to buy all that again. Also, if you have good kitchen appliances (mixers, ect) bring those as well. When we cook, we just plug what we are using into the transformer. One transformer is much cheaper than a ton of new stuff. The only major things I have that are 220v are the shop vac I use (we have all wood floors) and lights. Basically things that don't make sense to have multiple transformers for. Send me a PM and we can start helping you guys out.

You know it! Though I have yet to buy some man-capri-pants or get a purse...I mean satchel. If people don't want to be subjected to airport security: 1. Don't fly, thus avoiding all this or 2. Reduce security but increase your personal comfort, thus while accepting the increase in threat from people who want to do bad things. It was my understanding that the new scanners are a response to situations like the underwear-bomber. Just as we started going shoe-less after the shoe bomber. (what's next on the explosive attire list?) If you don't want to go through the scanner, then you get the new and improved TSA frisk. If you refuse that, well what then? Should they just take your word that you're a good guy? Is there other technology out there that can get the same job done? What happened to the puffers? *note: after watching news clips on this subject to me it seems that the people that are complaining the most about the scanners were either: A) obese B) had fake tits

I wish I could get a copy of the crazy German lady that calls all the time here. It's hilarious. On the subject of loonies, I think we've mentioned this crazy ass woman before. She lives underneath the approach to Kelly/Lackland (whatever it's called now) and complains of "stalking by military jets." One of her videos showed the name of her street, so we looked it up on google earth and low and behold it's about 10 miles off the runway on the extended centerline. But according to her, 10 miles means she's no where near a military base. So she's an idiot and geographically challenged. I will agree on one point though, a C-5 on approach will make your ears bleed. ;)

Common Vertical Lift Support Platform 15 yrs late

Other than the Lakota being mentioned as the Army's UH-1 replacement, I don't see in that article where it's mentioned as a replacement for the AF birds. The only other helo mentioned was the AW139, a very different a/c. UH-72 AW139 -
Words to live by. I wonder if the person who wrote this letter even has a clue on how this is being received. So much for "first impressions."

Saluting people before they get on my plane is just part of the job. Our leadership is pretty down to earth when they fly with us, even includes the flying generals. Although their briefs are usually during the taxi for takeoff. ;)

Gotta point out that the report says AW offered the AW139. It's substantially larger than the EC135 or 145. It's also substantially more expensive (per the AW webstie) than the UH-60M at around 22 million a pop. I couldn't find information at sikorsky on the UH-60M, but wiki (FWIW) says they are 14 million. Beacuse someone is going to bitch enough (oh it isn't fair...whaaa). Then congress will force us to waste time AND money on a competition and then pick something that doesn't do the job and costs more in the end to build/operate/support/train folks. But some insignificanly small number of jobs will be created in bumfvck nowhere and a foreign defense contractor will be appeased. These people are idiots that don't see the big picture. The UH-60M has been doing good work for the Army. I just read the memoir of a Army blackhawk pilot who flew them and was thuroughly impressed with the increased performance/capability over the older models. As previously stated, here is a proven a/c that we don't have to reinvent the damn wheel to get out on the line. edited for information -
Thread revival. I grew up with the understanding that no matter the service, you salute officers of higher rank when in passing, ect. On my base, all services are represeted, and there is a large Army contingent in the region. Recently I've been noticing that when I greet Army officers, they act suprised, indifferent, and in one case pissed. I also can't recall the last time an enlisted soldier or WO has rendered a salute, I can't figure out what's with the attitude. It's not just me either. I've recently been witness to a Major and Captian chewing out some rando enlisted Army guys. I've never experienced this with Navy or Marine folks. It looks pretty pathetic when you have these things going on in front of the KMCC 'bio-dome' for everyone to see. Even more so it's embarrasing when other NATO members are around.

I-25 does close occasionally in the winter. But then what's better than a snow day in a town full of breweries? (Ft Collins)
