  1. that'd be awesome to see. lol The song playing was, well, literally perfect for the situation.
  2. Well played! Looking forward to some more stories. And to whomever negatived me, seriously?
  3. Great story and all, but what did you get her? :)
  4. Wheelz, I agree with that. I was just saying that the change in yaw wouldn't necessarily be what caused the stall, more so the loss of the thrust that was sustaining him in high AOA slow flight. The asymmetrical yaw just made things worse (yaw-roll-change in lift vector) at a point when this dude was way behind the power curve (not his fault). That flight regime make me curious. Are the wings actually stalled out to begin with? Is it just the thrust keeping the jet in the air? Could a F-18 even muscle it's way out of that flight regime on a single engine? Who knows. I don't. Bottom line, there wasn't much of a safety margin and unfortunately something failed on this dude. Fortunately he made the timely decision to eject.
  5. Anyone else catch the music that was playing? Rather appropriate. I don't think the F-18 has huge issues with asymmetric thrust when the engines are as close as they could possibly get. More like a contributing factor to why the jet went right when it stalled, but not the cause of the crash. More like high AOA + low airspeed + loss of thrust = stall.
  6. I'm in a small DV airlift squadron so the spouses are fairly active together, as are the crews. The C-17 folks that come to our squadron are usually surprised that we hold first Fridays and other SQ functions. Based on that I'm guessing that they aren't as active, but I could be wrong. As with anything, it depends.

  8. AKA don't be a douche, but get your point across.
  9. Wouldn't count on the eyes. My eyes were 20/20 when I was 17, then by 20 had gone well past waiver-able limits to fly in the AF. Hate to say it, but the smaller hand thing is probably weird enough for the docs to DQ ya. Like how much smaller?
  10. FWIW I just passed my first PRK waiver renewal in the AF. Had PRK back in 2002, OTS/FC1 Waiver in 2007, survived being a lab rat at Brooks, winged in 2009. It's been 8 years since my PRK and I'm still 20/20. As someone was talking about recently, WAIT until your eyes peak out/stabilize at their worst before you get surgery. This usually occurs in your mid 20s (so I'm told my the doc). It'll save you some asspain in the long run. I wouldn't be where I am now if I didn't get PRK done back in the day. No PRK = no UPT = no wings. Simple as that. So I highly encourage people to get it, or Lasik, done.
  11. Well, we do have to over-wing refuel our own jets...
  12. C-21s: awesomeness.
  13. um...wow edit link, video is on homepage now
  14. Is this the same Russian/pirate incident where Russians captured a bunch of pirates, then later on the Russians put out a press release saying they somehow ended up dead?
  15. Footlocker (in colorado springs) was still doing a 30% discount as of last month. My SQ/CC just took his family on a Disney cruise, said he went for free since he was AD. I think this is good for their parks as well.
  16. So there I was, walking through finance today, rocking the bag, sleeves slightly pushed up (halfway to elbow to be exact)and a MSgt and TSgt both stop what they are doing, and simultaneously yell down the hallway "Sir! Roll down your sleeves!" I tried to get an ID on the uniform AFI enforcers, but was blinded by the glare of fluorescent lights off the reflective belts they were wearing inside on a sunny day. Double Whammy.
  17. I fly in Europe....where do I start??? PM me
  18. This is simple shit, cut down all light poles. Done.
  19. There's a funny LPA 'Capt. Morgan' pose/picture with all the WIC booty they took floating around.
  20. I just had a talk with my flight doc about my waivers, I needed one for retained hardware on my arm to get into the AF, however once I got in there was no need for a waiver to fly. As long as your broken bones weren't in a joint AND said joint has full range of movement, you'll be just fine. It's really not a big deal, even if you have a metal plate stuck in your arm like me. :)
  21. LPA held out and called their bluff, supposedly going to get some flights (in real airplanes!)

  23. Came across this on LiveLeak, pretty cool. Wild Weasel Vietnam mission recordings
  24. FWIW I lived off base and loved it. Most of my class did as well. As with anywhere, housing is hit or miss, but most of the folks had some sweet places. And while my apartment wasn't the greatest out there, management was good, we had a pool 30 feet from my door (and you could drink at it! try that at the base pool) and I made money off my BAH. Friends were more apt to visit off base due to the fact that none of us wanted to drink and party on base (thanks for sucking SF). Plus I didn't have a T-6 flying over my house every 30 seconds, the train in the middle of the night, or that damn giant voice. It's not that I hate the "sound of freedom", I just like it quiet when I'm trying to sleep (a commodity in UPT)
