  1. he was referring to the helo functional...outside of coming from another RW platform, the only way I've seen FW bubbas come over to the dark side is by getting hired by one of the Guard/Reserve units that flies 60s.
  2. just finished The Forgotten 500: The Untold Story of the Men Who Risked All For the Greatest Rescue Mission of World War II by Gregory A Freeman. Great read!
  3. damn, people, it's not that hard to spell someone's name correctly, especially when he's about to be our next CSAF! Welsh.
  4. do PIT TDY orders specify it as an accompanied TDY? If not, then they aren't doing anything wrong or unexpected.
  5. actually, the maxofacial shield was designed originally for the frontenters, to mitigate smaking your face on the cyclic in the event of a crash. Only a bene for the backenders as mentioned above, and it's also great to keep the dust out of your face when doing brownouts with doors off (all crew positions). you've been hanging out with Ralph Royce too much
  6. MC-12 is at Beale. U-2 is at Beale. Big move for the family there...
  7. yes to on base, no to off base. And your quarantines starts the day you get your pets' blood drawn for the rabies test. My cats 180 day quarantine was served entirely in CONUS before I PCS'd. The Japanese vet site is accurate. https://www.kadena.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=16520
  8. what is this Fighting Falcon you keep referring to?
  9. then it needs to be added to the Additional Authorizations tab or whatever as a choice (the same place you select Variations Authorized). If you can just check a fucking box about the VTC bs, that keeps the RA off your back.
  10. in 02-03, they tried to make it a 3 month course (just the RWQC portion), but that pilot didn't do well at Kirtland, so they sent her back to Rucker for the full 6 months. Not sure if it's changed since then. 2 on the integrated with the UPT class. Oh, and as for "UPT-style", those who came from an AF UPT base said it was less hard than their phase II experience. I came from Whiting, where it was then a little bit of a step up. This was the 03 timeframe, so take it with a grain of salt until a more recent grad can chime in.
  11. the AFSAS final msg is out. Go talk to your SE folks.
  12. so how do you get guys who have flown T-38s (is that still a requirement?), if fighter and bomber pilots are off limits these days?
  13. wrong. the purpose of a MOA is to seperate IFR traffic from non-hazardous military traffic. Joe Schmoe in his C-172 can blaze a VFR trail through your MOA any day of the week, without even talking to anyone, and it's completely legal. And stupid. At least the sectionals include MOA freqs now, so Joe Schmoe can choose to check in if he wants...
  14. 80 kph (on the expressway) is the fasted speed limit on island. Most surface streets (every other road on Oki) start at 60 kph and go down from there.
  15. second magnetfreezer here, you don't want to take your classic car over there, you'll bring home a classic pile of rust.
  16. Smokus, I'm not HC's, but I'm Rescue...in 04, my WG/CC was an HC Nav. https://www.af.mil/information/bios/bio.asp?bioID=8851 The job is Rescue...having said that, the majority of what they do downrange is MEDEVAC-related (patient transfers and the like). Occasionally a combat HAAR of the 60s will occur (I've been the recipient of one while on a msn). They may have also done some airdrops of medical supplies, but don't quote me on that. Community is in the midst of transitioning to the J, so I don't know exactly what the future holds in that community.
  17. are you married or single? Echo everything BP says above, the resort with the go karts is Big Time.
  18. My two faves: - Mildenhall (2 events): Twice, more than 30 officers gathered for legacy First Friday socials/meetings - Aviano (1 event): Energetically celebrated arrival and departure of PCS’g CGOs at off-base location
  19. it's worth it when you get home, and then you have an unlocked phone!
  20. mmmm, fresh and salty taste....
  21. ok, so what about a refi without the VA piece? I have a conventional mortgage through USAA (serviced by GMAC) right now. edit: spelin
  22. Kirtland owns one HC-130J, and it's been flying lines since at least Oct 11 (data point is when I HAAR'd with it in that month). 415 SOS. 88 TES at DM owns another HC-130J, and that J is augmenting at Kirtland with the 415th while the 79 RQS sends folks thru that transition pipeline. Come late summer that aircraft will be back at DM.
  23. DM has a chiropractor here in the clinic, and he's worth his weight in gold. I see him every 2 weeks...no idea if he's only available for mil, but I've never seen a non-mil member there.
  24. from memory, hope I get it close... We toast our faitful comrades, now fallen from the sky Who were gently caught by God's own hands, to be with him on high To dwell among the soaring clouds they knew so well before From dawk patrol to victory roll at heaven's very door And as we fly among them there, we're sure to hear their plea Take care my friend, watch your six, and do one more roll, just for me.
  25. I'm still waiting for DFAS to unfuck my CZTE and TSP contributions for Dec...Finance decided they'd give me CZTE for Jan/Feb 12 instead of Dec 11/Jan 12, and since I had already maxed out my deferred TSP for the year on my Oct LES (hit the 16.5K limit), no TSP was contributed in Dec. But since I was in a combat zone, and should have received CZTE, TSP contributions should have been made in the exempt area. So my W-2 Box 1 is reading 11k higher than it should right now. Finance opened a CMS case, but it's been more than 3-5 business days and no word yet from DFAS, and no W-2C posted to MyPay. I hate Finance.
