  1. not such a great part of town. Better than west of I-25, but not by much.
  2. seriously? Scotty Karate is in that slot now, but he's due to be re-blued this summer, so our functional at AFPC should be handing out the next assignment there fairly soon (summer VML). There are Navy, Marine (I think, we have a female USMC pilot in our SQ right now, so I assume it's reciprocal), UK, French, German exchanges for 60 drivers that I know of. Huey side of the house I have no idea.
  3. because there are no mountains in Afghanistan...
  4. 1. The neighbors who were watching my house/cats got my mail, so that worked out for me 2. I know all my neighbors and they do a good job of looking out for suspicious activity 3. YES, in at least two different areas (say, front room and bedroom, with timers set for appropriate times) 4. Agreed, no reason to pay more on your utility bill for something you aren't using. Don't forget to turn off your hot water heater! 5. Sure 6. As long as you don't have other living things (pets, plants, etc), I would only set it to heat at a low temp (like 62º) to save your pipes if you live in an area that might freeze in the winter. 7. Or a neighbor. 8. Have them drive it to an errand once a month - at least in my car care manual it says a 30 min drive. 9. Good idea. 10. Also a good idea.
  5. I'm pretty sure there's something in some reg somewhere about not PCSing once you were in the 8th month. I've known folks who've either extended their DEROS (PCSing from overseas to CONUS) or extended their TDY (TDY enroute at the schoolhouse) by fact of having their RNLTD adjusted right appropriately, all IAW said "reg" and no extra leave-taking required.
  6. resident exchange pilot squid summed it up pretty well for us: in the Navy, you are always flying around at sea level, so your power is always better than when you took off from the boat. The concept of re-calc'ing power is thus foreign to them, and they don't do much high-altitude stuff.
  7. Here's a toast...
  8. SIB was released a couple months ago. Go find an SE type to pull it up in AFSAS for you...
  9. Steve, I'm guessing the LM is part of the minimum crew requirements, and is thus required to be onboard for all flights. EDIT: confirmed in the 11-2C-17v3
  10. Whitman, where are you quoting those stats from? EDIT: Thanks Steve for the link to the full thing. I missed that somewhere...
  11. I'm pretty sure he did. Also a son at USAFA while he was the Comm. p.s. unlike Ohio State, "the" does not precede USAFA... ;)
  12. I've still got a copy of the video of that speech, including the Q&A session at the end where he zipped down his flight suit.
  13. last year I put in 50% of my base pay to TSP while I was deployed (so added benefit of being tax exempt), and I was below the poverty line in the eyes of the IRS when it was all said and done...
  14. Gonzo - We got word about 10 hrs ago that saluting went away after a week of no one doing it since the new "standards" came out...so no worries on all the other countries' ranks anymore! We had a guy salute an Army MAJ the other day and get yelled at for rendering a salute...I guess common sense finally prevailed.
  15. and any SE person can access the message in AFSAS, so find your SQ-level FSO for that hookup. What matmacwc said about Tab access.
  16. I read the SIB final message...wow.
  17. dmeg - sorry, I give myself a facepalm...it was a long day, and I work just down the flightline from the 71 ERQS currently.
  18. first of all, many of the helo dudes at your base deploy. They take the brunt of the CAFTT 365s to Iraq and Afghanistan. Second, the HH-60 PAVE HAWK (not a Blackhawk - Army flies those) is the ONLY airframe in the entire DoD specifically tasked with CSAR/PR. So you sure as hell better know these things. BREAK BREAK Third, what was the answer about the OEI stuff? I know this has been argued in our community for many years...
  19. heard today, while sitting in the FARP... Helicopter coming in to land on the runway, requests to exit at Taxiway Charlie. Brit TWR: "Cleared to land RWY at Charlie" about 15 seconds go by Brit TWR: "XXX, as impressive as that was, you've just missed Charlie" Helo: "Uh, I meant Delta" Brit TWR: (Laughing in the background) "Roger, exit Delta"
  20. xerox here on the mem errors. Warning: mysqli_query() [function.mysqli-query]: (HY000/2008): MySQL client ran out of memory in /home/flyingsq/public_html/forums/ips_kernel/classDbMysqliClient.php on line 222
  21. I'm guessing it went "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....cushion cushion cushion"
  22. Here's a toast...
  23. also, Callsigns have to be approved by the FSDO. They want to make sure there is geographic separation between the same callsign/number, etc.
  24. I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 11z. It's bigger than the mini (11.6 vs 10.1), but very light, and travels well. Doesn't weigh a brick, which is important to me. Only thing it doesn't have is an optical drive, but you can get a cheap external for that. I have encountered very few occasions when I've needed an optical drivel, tho...
  25. Capt David Wisniewski's memorial service is tomorrow at 0800, over at the 66 RQS, if you care to attend.
