  1. my favorite quote:
  2. This is a great telling of the story from Rescue's point of view, and reads much better than I'm sure the citation will. https://www.bagram.afcent.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123254042
  3. seriously, he bears a striking resemblance to Hitler...
  4. Why did you break out Falconview from PFPS? Falconview + CFPS = PFPS
  5. hmm... AF Finance @ Manas and Army Finance at KAF both sang the same song about not being allowed to adjust expiration dates. I guess it's hit or miss who is actually informed about and enforces this guidance.
  6. If you call the number on the back, Treasury will transfer the remaining balance back to your linked bank account. New rule as of Aug 10 is that expiration dates cannot be adjusted, so you will need to get a new card each time you deploy, or convince the young finance troop to give you an extended expiration date if you are a frequent deployer. I was able to set my expiration date at 37 months, to cover the 4-5 deployments I will most likely do between now and my next PCS, but that was with a lot of sweet talking...
  7. you can get the paperwork to fill out at home, but it will have to be turned in downrange. Also, the Bazaar at Bagram takes EagleCash. Most of the Haji stores on the Boardwalk at KAF also take EagleCash. I'm a big fan...
  8. well, he's actually wearing a multi-cam outer garment in that picture (which is a year old). We fly doors off in combat, and Jan at KAF is a bit nippy... See the back of his collar - tan.
  9. they exist already. Dri-Fire. Some in our community already have them, just waiting on the omni-omni to go forth and be camo'd.
  10. so will the USAF have to invent Dirigible Wings?
  11. Donk is kick ass.
  12. not such a great part of town. Better than west of I-25, but not by much.
  13. seriously? Scotty Karate is in that slot now, but he's due to be re-blued this summer, so our functional at AFPC should be handing out the next assignment there fairly soon (summer VML). There are Navy, Marine (I think, we have a female USMC pilot in our SQ right now, so I assume it's reciprocal), UK, French, German exchanges for 60 drivers that I know of. Huey side of the house I have no idea.
  14. because there are no mountains in Afghanistan...
  15. 1. The neighbors who were watching my house/cats got my mail, so that worked out for me 2. I know all my neighbors and they do a good job of looking out for suspicious activity 3. YES, in at least two different areas (say, front room and bedroom, with timers set for appropriate times) 4. Agreed, no reason to pay more on your utility bill for something you aren't using. Don't forget to turn off your hot water heater! 5. Sure 6. As long as you don't have other living things (pets, plants, etc), I would only set it to heat at a low temp (like 62º) to save your pipes if you live in an area that might freeze in the winter. 7. Or a neighbor. 8. Have them drive it to an errand once a month - at least in my car care manual it says a 30 min drive. 9. Good idea. 10. Also a good idea.
  16. I'm pretty sure there's something in some reg somewhere about not PCSing once you were in the 8th month. I've known folks who've either extended their DEROS (PCSing from overseas to CONUS) or extended their TDY (TDY enroute at the schoolhouse) by fact of having their RNLTD adjusted right appropriately, all IAW said "reg" and no extra leave-taking required.
  17. resident exchange pilot squid summed it up pretty well for us: in the Navy, you are always flying around at sea level, so your power is always better than when you took off from the boat. The concept of re-calc'ing power is thus foreign to them, and they don't do much high-altitude stuff.
  18. Here's a toast...
  19. SIB was released a couple months ago. Go find an SE type to pull it up in AFSAS for you...
  20. Steve, I'm guessing the LM is part of the minimum crew requirements, and is thus required to be onboard for all flights. EDIT: confirmed in the 11-2C-17v3
  21. Whitman, where are you quoting those stats from? EDIT: Thanks Steve for the link to the full thing. I missed that somewhere...
  22. I'm pretty sure he did. Also a son at USAFA while he was the Comm. p.s. unlike Ohio State, "the" does not precede USAFA... ;)
  23. I've still got a copy of the video of that speech, including the Q&A session at the end where he zipped down his flight suit.
  24. last year I put in 50% of my base pay to TSP while I was deployed (so added benefit of being tax exempt), and I was below the poverty line in the eyes of the IRS when it was all said and done...
  25. Gonzo - We got word about 10 hrs ago that saluting went away after a week of no one doing it since the new "standards" came out...so no worries on all the other countries' ranks anymore! We had a guy salute an Army MAJ the other day and get yelled at for rendering a salute...I guess common sense finally prevailed.
