Pretty sure the DoD as a whole is just a jobs program anymore...
-
Gypsy if you could lay everything out in a more easy to follow fashion I think everyone could help you a lot more. While I have no experience with FEB's the few pilots I have seen go have kept their wings. They all went for various reasons (not up to standards, flight discipline (kept busting TR's during training), G-Loc, SA) but they all have kept their wings and are still out there doing great things, so keep your chin up.

A quick search didn't show any results for info concerning Holloman, so I'm starting a new thread. Wife and I are headed to Holloman in a few months for B-Course and are trying to figure out whether to live on/off base and if off, where the good places to live are, as well as any useful info for the local area.

Word on the streets is C-146's to Duke

She. And ya, their has been some chatter to the bros out there.
-
Vance is having a FAIP all call with Gen Robinson next week, gonna be interesting to see what he has to say.
-
Everyone was pretty shocked by it to be honest. He's a good bro and a solid instructor. Played the FAIP game reasonably well, did a decent amount of volunteer stuff and what not. Only thing we've really thought of is that he pissed off the new commander of our sister squadron last year and that maybe that played into the rack and stack this year. Also we got a new CC earlier this year and are guessing he didn't really fight for his people which doesn't really surprise anyone. But again no one really knows why. On the bright side the Buff community just got a solid bro who will do great things there. In other news the person who got the MC-130 Kadena stormed out of the building in tears.

Stupid question I know, but retired pay is only base pay correct? No BAH, BAS, or anything else right?
-
Out of curiosity, which base is this at? I know at the one I'm currently instructing at it's the opposite, people are openly discussing their applications and helping each other get hired.

Fair enough, I was more driving at the fact that the studs don't get a fair view of a fighter/bomber lifestyle all they get is one side of the story.
-
This is 100% what is happening at UPT right now. I've seen dozens of studs who started out wanting fighters switch their dreamsheets because "I've heard the T-1 is fun and that T-38 IP's are mean," or "I've heard from 33 IP's how awesome the C-17 is." In all seriousness there are more C-17 drivers than FAIPs in my squadron, it's pretty ridiculous, especially since they all keep trying to land at the wrong airport.

Bureaucracy loves creating more bureaucracy, all I see is this space corps gobbling up a shit load of budget for little to no return. Proof will be when they launch a rocket costing $100 million and Space X does the same for $10 million...oh wait they already do.

Stars In my Eyes Pilot Candidate Set me straight.

All the bitching and shit that pisses you off disappears as soon as you leave the ground. Only 5 years in so far but I wouldn't trade this flying for anything. Ya it's annoying as hell at times but it's all worth it for what I get to do on a daily basis. -
At ACSC, a Joint non-flying tour, the Pentagon, HAF tour, or better yet, Aide de Camp for some 4-star. Isn't that what we all dream of? /sarcasm off

What everyone else said, also keep the beer fridge stocked with good beer, gotta earn that flight commander ranking

One idea drawn up by a buddy of mine as sort of a way to bridge the leadership track vs tactical track was to create a promotion system for O-4+ that was more of a checklist. For example In order to make O-4 you would have to accomplish certain things like Flt/CC or equivalent, PME (ya SOS is mandatory just using it for arguments sake), and a litany of other things. O-5 would be similar but maybe require IDE and a Joint tour or whatever. TIG/TIS numbers would still apply so you didn't have an O-5 with only 10 years in. This would then allow people to fly for as long as they wanted but still allow them to progress up the ranks and allow them to do other jobs but on their timeline. Example, young Capt decides he wants to fly for his whole career, after say 12 years he decides he to finish whatever he needed to make O-4, makes O-4 and does a staff tour then heads back to the jet, retires as an O-4. Another example, guy decides he wants to make command after being in the jet for ~6 years, starts working on knocking out the requirements to make O-4, makes O-4, starts working on requirements to O-5, etc. He's still a flier but he also knowingly is accepting/volunteering for more staff tours and such.

Can't wait for their plan to increase UPT output...

Good for you, now STFU.

I may have missed the answer to this question in earlier posts, but when someone from a fighter switches over to another fighter (F-16 to F-35 for example) what does that do to their progression? If they left the Viper as an IP what do they enter the F-35 as? Also, if someone goes fighters then teaches IFF, how do they come back into their community progression wise, i.e. former 4 ship lead comes back with same quals? Thanks

There was one that stood up for the Track Select, the other was not part of Track Select as he arrived that morning so he could start T-38's with the class the next day.
