  1. I guess once we get the technology and TTPs to make that determination, the insurgents will start arming the women and kids. I'm sorry, was that too cynical?
  2. The first military bitching probably occurred shortly after the first group of cavemen realized pointy sticks were more effective than rocks with no handles. &*(ing Ogg, has me out here making %&(# arrowheads, I could be at home in my ^&*# cave. &*#$ing Ug, has us chasing this #$$%ing sabertooth tiger, I could be ^$%#ing farming my food instead of being &^%*ing chewed up by a Goddammed overgrown cat.
  3. You laugh now...when Skynet takes over, this guy will be the leader of the Resistance.
  4. Why? Folks on here point out AF buffoonery all the time, how is this PA stunt any different than the thread about the new ABUs or leadership at a certain "non-disclosed location"?
  5. My advice would be to vote against any incumbent. These budget problems and impasses are always caused by the Representative or Senator with 40 years in congress.
  6. I hate listening to reporters. Sounds like yes, they lost their instruments, but they were VFR at 2000', no? I especially loved the "PANIC IN THE SKIES" motif they have going. Maybe congress can look into airline safety once they get this budget thing wrapped up.
  7. It was a callsign change. Apparently the LNO was also a chick, and was pushing back on a friggin' O-6 when he didn't want to change the callsign in the ATO for one flight.
  8. Checks...that means 2/3 of the misconduct is caused by sober people. Seems like you should be working on the bigger portion of misconduct, the "sober" ones.
  9. So...how many schedules do you suppose the higher-ups disrupted so that they could have an all-female MPC and an all-female MX crew?
  10. Yay, 4 women were able to do their jobs. Thanks USAF, for confirming my own personal fears about the DADT repeal..."First gay fighter/bomber/recon/UAV pilot does x, y, and z".
  11. Your deployed base sounds way better than my deployed base.
  12. True...but my point is, it doesn't take a lot of additional training to say to your store employees "If they are between 18 and 21, they need this kind of card to show they're active duty, not this other card for dependents". We already trust the store clerks not to sell to kids under 21 now...how hard is it to put a printout at the checkout counter detailing who can and can't buy alcohol, and let the AD folks buy beer, thus preventing some 18-year-old dependent from getting his high school buddies into trouble on base using his ID?
  13. Again, I'm a proponent of every 18-year-old having the ability to drink, or no 18-year-old being considered an adult period...and I tend to lean towards the letting 18-year-olds drink side. That said, if your concern is some dependent kid getting his buddies drunk, and that's the reason people argue against allowing military members to drink on base...the simple fix is that only people with a CAC card, not a dependent ID, can buy alcohol at age 18. Why can't the regulation be that restrictive? It's already been pointed out that drinking age on base is a WG/CC decision anyway. He could just as easily say no dependents can buy alcohol on base, or no one wearing a blue shirt can buy beer, etc. It's not a law, it's a local policy.
  14. I'm 30. Who gets the blame if I go to the Class 6 and buy a bunch of booze, then distribute it to people who are under age? Oh, right, I do. So in your example, the 18-year-old would take the blame, with all the penalties that come with it.
  15. Yes. And not just for the military. You're telling me that in our society, 18 is considered old enough to make life-altering decisions about getting married, joining the military, voting, or buying a house...but not old enough to crack open a beer on Friday afternoon?
  16. I am also angered that this guy, who by all accounts from folks who know him personally is a great dude and great pilot, is getting hammered for a momentary lapse in judgement that resulted in no harm and no public outcry...yet I know of at least one FGO whose punishment for a DUI was a PCS and a school slot. It just seems so arbitrary to the rank and file. Flying low during your fini-flight? Who wouldn't be tempted by that, even if you don't actually do it. Driving home drunk, AFTER several sober squadron members attempted to give you a ride home, after all the damned briefings we get day in and day out? And then we punish the guy who is flying aggressively, threatening a court martial until he turns in his wings voluntarily after a career of dedicated service...and we reward the DB who drove home drunk and got busted by the cops. Copy, it is worse to have a mistake in the aircraft than to break military and civilian law.
  17. This. The problem is, when the USAF (or Army) reacts to something like this by taking a person's wings, or talking about court-martial, it does instill a sense of fear in everyone below you. And not just regarding fly-bys. It instills in the young pups in the squadron the idea that any move they make could be the one mistake or misstep that costs them their whole career. Then the young pups become afraid of making any decision while flying the jet and are constantly seeking higher guidance before routine training sorties...the culmination being, you end up developing a group of pilots who are great at following the regs but who have no initiative and no balls to execute a real-world mission without a PAR from the CAOC as to how to fly it.
  18. I'm almost inclined to agree with the caption...maybe we should sponsor her so she burns a few years on this idea...that would be a pretty epic prank.
  19. The crowd seemed to enjoy it.
  20. Can the fans even see you at FL600? I keed, I keed.
  21. I'm going to agree that AUAB shouldn't qualify for CTZE or HDP. If you can't even see the country where the war is happening, you probably aren't in combat. Anyone going to, or flying over, the Stan or Iraq, are involved in combat operations. Combat operations = CTZE. I'm all for anything that stops more useless support troops from coming to AUAB. We're full, go home.
  22. What you are witnessing is the rise of Bollywood. Hollywood makes most of the blockbusters, but Bollywood actually produces more movies every year. And since we've exported so much of the CGI work to India, they now have the technical expertise to start making their own over-the-top action movies. Looks awesome. They already got a fly-by-night production company to sign on for release in the US, on the strength of just that trailer. https://www.wired.com/underwire/2011/02/bollywood-sci-fi/
  23. When we created a 24 hour news cycle where stories like this make national headlines.
  24. Except the fat ones with 18 years in...
