  1. Disagree. Twice the regime has used chemical weapons, twice they've been subject to US airstrikes. This sends a message not only to Syria, but to other countries around the world, that breaking international law will have consequences above a sternly worded memo from the UN.
  2. Are fighter SQ/CCs not all 2 BPZ like in the B-1? Is ours more competitive because there are only 3 ops, 1 FTU, and 2 OSS slots available?
  3. Seems like they'd be ripe in about 2 years, no?
  4. I guess it depends how you define "operational positions". For example, our FTU couldn't get in on the civilian hiring wave because the FTU isn't an "operational squadron".
  5. I liked Ready Player One, but maybe I'm not quite as old and grumpy as 17D_guy. I enjoyed the book, so I knew the movie was going to be a non-stop stream of pop-culture references. My assessment is that it is a well-executed action movie with pretty good special effects, but if you don't have a nerd streak, you're probably not going to get much out of it. That said, if you read and loved the book, be aware that there are DRAMATIC changes in the story. They almost just took the setting and characters, then built a new story for the movie. On the plus side - you don't have to worry about spoilers. On the minus side - most of the changes were not for the better.
  6. Are you really trying to convince him to trade Moody for Cannon?
  7. I'm curious why you think the reclamas are going to work any better now than they have for the past decade.
  8. No it isn't. I approved plenty of leave for others captains as a captain. If it were in the programming, it wouldn't even be an option.
  9. And to think, I used to approve my supervisor's leave when I was the assistant flight commander.
  10. Been a while since I was at OTS but what I remember is: You'll be paid as an E-5 (unless you're already above E-5, then you get your current pay). You will get BAH for where ever your dependents are while you are at OTS/TFOT. I think you also get an initial uniform allowance of ~$400, but that could have been because I was an off-the-street civilian and not a prior-E. I don't think you get any per diem at OTS since the housing and food is all provided for you. You should start getting flight pay on day one of class at UPT.
  11. I think you're going to need a TS to go through the training at PCola. There's a lot of electronic warfare geekery they're teaching now, regardless of the airframe you end up in. IIRC (and it's been a long time), the TS paperwork was initiated at UNT during inprocessing. A lot of students just had interim clearances until OPM finally finished the investigations.
  12. Just need to sell the AFCENT/CC on your new basing plan.
  13. Well, they'll let you leave the base. But they won't let that vehicle back in the base.
  14. You lucked out. Here at Dyess, having a radar detector is an automatic suspension of driving privileges.
  15. I'll take the contractors.
  16. What about regular midget porn?
  17. Sadly, I can assure you multiple OGs and wing agencies care. Reference the 70th anniversary shenanigans last year.
  18. Doesn't help that the system now views "exec" as a stepping stone to promotion, so there's incentive for guys to take it (and incentive for commanders to pick their best people for it, which is how you end up with patches double-checking OPRs at the group and wing level instead of doing patch stuff)
  19. We've got a Stan/eval guy, a training guy, and a scheduler in our combat squadron. Unfortunately, our FTU, with half the manning, wasn't eligible for contact help because they're "not an operational unit".
  20. Yep. Hazing. Next up, no more aggressive handshakes during awards ceremonies.
  21. Not only that, if you don't live in or near a major hub, you probably only have one or two choices for airlines anyway. See: Abilene, TX - the only way out is to fly American or drive 3.5 hours to Dallas.
  22. I've often seen both used as a holding pattern for a guy who never made commander and is now waiting out retirement. Could go either way.
  23. I wonder if he'll be non-deployable for 12 months...
  24. That's where I see this going. Squadrons continuing to do the work to prove that they need the MAJCOM to do these functions, except now squadrons will no longer have the ability to "just make it happen" and will be dependent on a staffing process that will take a significant amount of time. Add that to the fact that the RSAP is depleting bodies from the staff (for better or worse), so the staffs don't have the manpower to do all the things this seems to be pushing onto them.
  25. It's strange how people make decisions based on quality of life, huh?
