The new NDAA, still awaiting signature, raises the maximum flight pay to $1000/month. I haven't seen anything about what the Air Force plans to do with that increase.

How long before they start telling pilots "nevermind, you don't actually have to separate"?
-
It's my goal to reach Lt Col on the strength of ACSC in correspondence, and never do another PME again.

Mil competency add-ons before getting winged

My dad always told me you wait 'til she's forty, then trade her for 2 twenties. -
I can't tell if this is serious advice or a prank.
-
You'll fit right in.
-
It's a recent change to stem the practice bleeding. If you're a select, you will go in residence (unless you turn it down). There's no point in doing it by correspondence.
-
I wonder if that's because so many bailed prior to the board, or were using other gamesmanship to get passed over and get out.
-
They used to do all the paperwork exercise associated with a PRF, only to have them turned in blank. Then they get to go with the guys meeting the board for the first time and get the blank PRF handed back to them by the WG/CC anyway. Huge waste of time and effort for everyone involved.

He told a group of B-1 guys that we didn't know how to do long-range strike after a decade of "burning holes in the sky" (CAS). He had apparently forgotten that when B-1s were part of ACC, we participated in Odyssey Dawn because Global Strike assets were unable or too costly.

That rated manning crisis is really helping some folks.
-
No. I'm trying to sell the B-1. We need the manning.

And the WSOs do most of your mission planning for you.

Let's not forget, the last time we ACTUALLY turned an airborne bad guy into hair, teeth, and eyeballs was, what, 1993? Allied Force or Northern Watch, I don't remember.
-
Well, thank God I didn't take that bet then. So...what are the odds that we will have a budget or CR on Dec 9? Or will we just take all of December off?
-
If I were a betting man, I would bet this month's salary on not having one by Oct 1st. Followed by a scramble to have SOMETHING before the election.

Which party was the one that suggested the BAH cuts again...?

We had a long chat with a missileer looking to improve their OGV process, and he was saying that the evaluators don't even pull the shift with the missileers. The lead guy being evaluated just puts together a debrief and presents it after the fact. And the debrief itself isn't an evaluatable item.

On the plus side, you get to spend time at home. Your C-17 bros may indeed be having fun in Italy, Germany, Spain, wherever...but they're also on the road 200+ days a year. If you think six month deployments are rough on the family, try being gone more often than you are home. Abilene, Rapid City, and Shreveport are not as bad as you make them out to be. There's also the Guam trips with stops in S. Korea, Japan, and Australia now that B-1s are part of Global Strike.

Our FTU went through a spell of that, but now we're back to beer in debrief regardless of land time.
-
Because we don't get to pick the bases, congress does. So whatever congressman needs a favor, needs jobs in their district, has the pull with the Armed Services Committee, etc, gets to pick.
-
We tried that before. Results were mixed at best. Edited to add: still doesn't solve the throughput problem when your FTU is only 50% manned and you don't have enough jets for the FTU lines.
-
B-1, but the slides from the AFPC webinar implied that the BUFFs and B-2s have similar struggles.
-
Apparently the fighter shortage is worse than the bomber shortage. Our FTU is about 50% manned right now, so even if they gave us more students I'm not sure we really have the capacity to put them through in a timely manner.

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13

I anticipate a flurry of strongly worded letters and a coordinated campaign of breath-holding.
