WOW, there is some outstanding reading to do there. Can someone capture that and turn it into PME? My favorite is having someone blink "douchery" in morse code while singing/reciting.

Three thoughts on this. 1) Chaplains aren't frequently discussed on this forum, but hats off to the Chaplain for providing feedback to the Chief -> 2) Someone needs to discuss what a "Bottom Line" is. This guy has three of them. 3) Question for the Weapons Officers - when you cast dispersions, what is the anticipated CEP? I've heard of casting aspersions, but maybe he was going for something different.

Makin, thanks for saving me the price of the magazine. I highlighted a slightly different part. I love how he claims he "communicated" this possibility last year. When asked point blank if it is going to happen again, he doesn't answer. THAT is why people feel they were blind sided - chicken shit leadership who can't answer a yes/no question without presenting a math problem. Unless 1300+ officers separate voluntarily (and the AF has to allow them once they request to separate, unlike the last VSP) they will do it again. He just won't say it.

I know there has been some discussion on the waiver process for going to the Guard and Reserves. I got an email today with the "New for 2011" waiver process for the Air National Guard. It looks a little different from what I saw for the Reserves. PM me if you want any contact info for the office that sent the message. ----- Subject: Accessing Twice Deferred AD AF Officers into the ANG Good Morning, The Air National Guard is currently below officer end strength and has the opportunity to increase it significantly. The Air Force is separating officers who have been twice deferred for promotion (passed over for promotion). The ANG accepts accession waivers for twice deferred Active Duty Air Force officers, IAW AFI 36-2005, Table 2.2., Item 25 and ANGI 36-2005, Chapter 11 and Attachment 9. Following is information on the authority to approve these waivers, the processing documents required, and other information: NGB/A1PO is the approval authority. The criteria for approval of these waivers is based on the officer's performance over the last 5 years. As long as the officer's performance is good (as documented in the OPRs), and the officer meets all other requirements for accession in the ANG, then the waiver will be approved to allow the officer's appointment in the ANG. The documentation needed for the waiver is: 1. Commander's memorandum requesting waiver 2. Copies of the officer's last five (5) OPRs 3. State headquarters endorsement The waiver can be submitted as part of the officer's appointment application; there is no need to do a separate waiver. If there is concern that the waiver will not be approved, the unit may submit the waiver request first. Once appointed into the ANG, these officers are eligible for position vacancy promotion, IAW ANGI 36-2504, paragraph 3.3.14. The same documents that were required for the accession waiver are required for a promotion waiver. If the officer is eligible for Interim Appointment IAW ANGI 36-2005, Paragraph 5.5.1, the MPMO may approve the interim appointment and the Oath of Office executed IAW ANGI 36-2005, Paragraph 5.2. Following execution of the Oath of Office, all documents required for appointment IAW ANGI 36-2005, Chapter 5, the NGB Form 337 and AF IMT 133 must be sent to NGB/A1POP as soon as possible for Federal recognition to be extended. Please pass this information to your commanders, unit members, and others who may speak with officers about the Air National Guard. Thank you. XXXXXX, MSgt, USAF Officer Recruiting NCO, NGB/RS

Could this be a devious plan to get people to volunteer for 365s? After a month in blues, I might consider it.

If you like what you do, but you are tired of the qweep, check out the ANG/AFR. You may not have the exact same job/airframe available there, but ask about options for retraining.
-
Hey Butters, just to provide a data point, I signed up for ACSC the same week the promotion list came out. I had it done before I pinned on Major. I really don't think timing on ACSC in correspondence matters unless they are looking at you to go in residence. Catbox - do you have any EWO background? I've found that can be a marketable skill on the outside.
-
I was joking - It doesn't sound like you are. How F'd up can this possibly get when I can't make up stupid shit that the AF hasn't already done.
-
HOLY SHIT! How does that airman in line for the porta potties make weight standards. And he is so shiny. (before you reply, yes its a dude in an inflatable suit.) I'd still like to see him do his PT test.
-
So how exactly would that be enforced? Who is going to write someone up for a "clothing violation/uniform violation" in civilian clothing?
-
I may have to post a question on the web site. "Do I have to complete my separation before volunteering for the Return to Active Duty Program?" Actually, if I succeed in getting a job in the ANG/AFR, I will not be coming back voluntarily.

Regarding the waiver process, A person I trust at AFPC (Very short list) told me that 12Xs are on the critically manned list in the reserves and are eligible for bonuses in some cases. Supposedly, they are going to provide a blanket waiver for twice passed over dudes on this board looking to transition to the Guard or Reserves. I don't know if that will continue to be the case as the ANG/AFR will have a limit to how many guys they can absorb. The good news is that there are still plenty of options at the moment. PM me if you want additional details.

Best REMF/Shoe BFM of the day. Next year the reg will specify a maximum number of hats one can have on his/her person. I know you guys have seen A-10s with a "canopy" painted on the underside so you can't tell which way he is turning. Maybe we can start painting half a flight cap on the right leg of everybodys flight suits.

Somebody has to stay in. As for having a job, you should at least have something that looks pretty solid before you pull the handles. I've seen cases and others on this forum have stories of guys who got out thinking that a job would magically appear (airlines, Reserves, start a business...) and it didn't. Look around and get smart on your options before you start your separation paperwork.

While I haven't heard of any large reductions, there is always the local ebb and flow in manning. One Colorado unit I talked to said they had recently been turned into an associate unit and lost a chunk of their navigator manning. Other units are in the process of shuffling slots to deal with retirements, promotions and other horse trading. Most of my prior experience has been with the Guard so I'm not very familiar with how it works in the Reserves, but most units will find a way. I've seen more than one squadron use a new hire's time in training to find a slot.
-
I've talked to both ANG and AFR in three different states. I've also been talking to the ANG recruiter in the local area. No one has ever mentioned a hiring freeze, either current or impending. If I hear otherwise, I'll be the first to let everyone know.

As a bomber nav I am OFFENDED.... that somebody took down the sign. Nellis has ALWAYS been home of the fighter pilot. Fuck sensitivity. Let the people who need a hug have their own base and label it "Home of the whiners." Make it an AETC base, or maybe the Academy.

That article is chock o block full of WTF quotes. How would you like to be part of THAT class. "Well, we've determined that this course adds no value, but we can't stop the bureaucracy on a dime, so you all still have to attend. See you in 4 years for the extended SOS" This program is so awesome we are going to cancel it. Wait, what? Because we totally think that the material we used on brand new 2LTs will still be relevant for mid-grade Captains.
-
Without belaboring the point, I think a lot of people here FENCEd in and had their eyes out for the threat. How do you defend against a liberated high pressure turbine blade though? The shit that is coming apart is internal. Then again, some aspects of the current manpower situation resemble having two call pit bull when you are out in front.
-
The people not being continued were up for their first look APZ for Lt Col. One look in the zone and one above makes two times deferred. break, break For those who have expressed frustration with this policy, I found another outlet yesterday. Send an email to the Air Force Association. They generally push back when the Air Force does something short sighted and this definitely seems to fit. AFA is an advocacy organization, maybe they will take up the cause.

After initial attempts at surrendering to the building failed, the Captain demanded an apology from the building for pulling in front of his aircraft. Deny, deny, deny, make counter accusations, demand an apology.
-
I agree with the guys who have said that the decision made on this board will have consequences the manpower people probably were not factoring in. They made a quick decision to cut a group of Majors. They don't understand how that will ripple through guys who have been passed over and Captains reaching the end of their commitment. I suspect the first indicator that will scare the shit out of AFPC will be a sharp reduction in the take rate for the bonus. Most guys were willing to try their luck for Lt Col and maybe retire as a Maj. Getting kicked out with 1 years pay at the 15 year point isn't worth it.

Here it is, hot off the presses. Instructions to the FY11 LAF Lt Col promotion board. For those interested in the continuation process, skip to page 4. It appears that anyone on a normal path through the AF without prior enlisted time ran afoul of the following direction Since this was the 96 year group, we all hit 5 years to retirement at some point in 2011. The board was held beginning on 7 March. I guess anyone who was commissioned before 7 Mar in 1996 got lucky. LTC board instructions.pdf

This is the verbatim guidance provided to those selected for non-continuation. From my prior time in the Guard, I've seen people with serious career problems make the jump to the Guard and continue to move up. I'm not sure if this request for a waiver is a formality or if this is a further attempt to stick it to the folks being forced out this year.

Dude, I have some bad news for you. Google Keisha Bikini. Its not good.
