National Air Cargo 747 Crash at Bagram
Benefit to the C-17, all the tiedown hooks on the floor are rated to 25k. Oh, and the pallet locks are strong, probably a lot stronger than anything in a 747. Speaking of, is the 463L pallet anywhere close to the same dimensions as a regular commercial 747 pallet? 463L measures 108"x88"... It's funny, really your biggest limitation in how many vehicles your plane could carry wasn't so much how to space them in, it's how to get them in and have room between the vehicles to get the proper restraint. Yeah, you can go under a vehicle with the chains provided no more than 50% of the restraint goes to the axles and provided it sits high enough for you to get in there to do what you need, oh and that you have the time to do all this and not have your balls busted about takeoff times...but to have all that go hand in hand is rare. So you end up with wasted space between vehicles where all the chains go. Anyway to me, snap judgment from the 747 payload pics, it just looks like somebody thought more of 'how many of these can we cram in?' than 'hey, how good is our restraint here?'

Cargo straps for MRAPs...UFB. I never used anything less than 25K chains and devices.

Tablet recommendations for civil flying
Just don't violate airspace while dicking with your iPad or whatever, and then when you get served with the deviation don't blame it on your iPad's GPS. Always love that one.

I dug it. Similar look, feel and sound to Tron Legacy, just a much stronger plot.

Questions on TPS (Test Pilot School)
Yeah, I thought it might be that but went with the other. Been awhile.

Gen Welsh - USAF Chief of Staff
Could not agree more. The enthusiasm for Welsh seemed to be, and continues to be just like the President's meteoric rise as a candidate - tons of cheerleaders who have since continuously apologized or made excuses of why all that promise hasn't been fulfilled. Yeah, take ownership of your shit at a local level and hope it spreads, because you just can't expect much to come from the top down.

I really wish people would stop making excuses. Welsh doesn't have to let the sequester define his term.

MDS = Mission Designation Series. As in the designation of your aircraft.

Boston Marathon Bombing
Newtown dedication stuff too. It seems like every sports team that has dedicated a game to them has ended up being crushed, the child runner today was one of the fatalities, and one of the unexploded bombs was discovered under the grandstands - Newtown families in the stands. And since those families have been very vocal in supporting restrictions on firearms rights to assuage their grief, I'm sure there's kooks with a beef against them.

Gun Talk
Is Texas the right choice? Aren't the demographics there changing rapidly with the hispanic influx? Yeah it's a firearms paradise now, but 20 years out, what will the policies be? Unless the GOP has a big change in message and tone to be more inclusive... I wonder if, say, Wyoming might have been a better choice for Magpul. I mean it's right there, maybe 100 miles away and those demographics aren't budging...

Man Sentenced to 30 Months for Lasing Aircraft
Nice to finally see somebody get caught. I deal with this quite a bit, several LE helos operate from my airport and patrol the local area and end up getting lased...giving me a bit of paperwork and calls to the various points of contact to report it. Rarely seems like they catch them though.

Saw GI Joe Retaliation, it wasn't too terrible - far better than the original. It's not exactly Batman Begins good, but still pretty decent, give it a C+ or B-... oh and if Olympus has Fallen was shitty, there's a direct clone coming out later this June called "White House Down" starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. So I guess that's this year's Armageddon/Deep Impact duo.

C-5 or C-17
Flew a week and a half long pacific trip years back, moving opportune cargo - not a downrange OIF/OEF mission for a change. Rare. Stop by Hickam on our way out, broke C-5 on the ramp. Get downtown billeting at the Outrigger Luana, sweet stoked to not be stuck on base with no U-drive, that C-5's crew is there enjoying life. Anyway go fly our trip, some engine write-up develops later in the trip that repeats itself every time at start-up, we mention it each time to each transient maintenance facility on our RONs across the pacific and they always either CND the issue or fix it just enough to push us on to the next base and TA Mx crew where it'll repeat again. Get back to Hickam with the same issue persisting, probably the best place to get it fixed, on the bus notice same C-5 on the ramp in the same spot ain't moved, get offbase again and yup same crew still there. Alert next day and same shit from Mx, move on ya bums you're not breaking in Hawaii. Take from that what you will. Was a fun trip and nice to do something different, but it becomes pretty clear who's allowed to break and where.

General Petraeus resigns amid affair scandal
That'll make it hard to continue to do work as an intel officer in her Reserve career...guess that's over. As for the theory on Benghazi, that theory has always been a stupid one anyway.

CSAR-X
^ So, that appears to have the same engines as the H-60. If a lack of power is the issue for the HH-60, how does making the helicopter larger (heavier) with the same engines solve anything? Or is it a better rotor/dynamic system that gets more lift?
