    Gun Talk

Been 10 years since I bought anything from CMP and Im retired. Any idea of they keep records or do I have to jump a bunch of hoops? An issue 45 would ve very cool

  3. As a DL guy Id say SWA. That said, 3 plus years here and have missed zero birthdays (wife, 3 kids) and batting 50% on Xmas/Thanksgiving. In the situation you posit, getting mid week days off is far easier than weekend so assuming no holiday you'd probably be able to make it work here. There's been plenty of PBS hate thrown and I wont argue the point. But I do think it makes getting specific dates off quite possible, even as a very new guy.
  4. Wow, never heard that. I stand corrected
  5. Never said I was smart. Cadets have their own uniform regs authorizing shit different than regular Air Force. Or sometimes its the same stuff but for different reasons. Like spings for their 10 days space course. I can't prove it, but I highly doubt they ever graduated rated navigators. RTB is correct that if they wanted IFS there they could do it. After the T3 fiasco there was zero probability of a purpose built/modified aircraft ever occurring. The new syllabus from recreated IFS was longer than the old one and the DA-20 couldn't operate at the AFA airfield much of the year. Between aircraft performance and slightly longer syllabus, couldn't get enough people complete. So they moved it. Additionally if you were to scour the planet for the worst place to put an airport, 6400 feet next to a mountain range might make your list. Apologies for the thread drift. Sending folks to the Viper VFR direct after T6s seems a jaw droppingly dumb fucking idea.
  6. I spent 8 years of my life there and that's the first I've heard of rated Navs. I have no idea how you'd do it, not like there's much free time avail. They couldn't even make IFS work there in the early 00s. No one had time to complete it.
  7. Yeah, I'm with you. He was a great f'ing dude when I knew him. Sad to see him end his career over something like that.
  8. Airline guys....Chase Sapphire Reserve or Amex Platinum? I absolutely don't need a premium card, I just kinda want one. I have Diamond statues with Hilton and for airline travel it gets me pretty much the square root of fuck all. Every once in a while (layover) I'll get free breakfast or lounge access, but it's the exception not the rule. Flew with a new hire with Platinum who said it gets him access every Hilton/Marriott he stays at. Anyone confirm this experience? Airport lounge access when non-rev or jumpseating? Feel like I've read mixed results with Amex, I don't recall reading much about Chase. If I get one of these I want the one that will most improve non rev travel with the wife (airport lounges, better hotel rooms when on my dime) and make my layovers better (food, lounge, whatever) If it matters, I'm a Delta guy that lives in Atlanta. I'm retired so will pull full freight on either card. It's easy to compare the cards in a general sense online. But when I look at specifics of being an airline pilot who doesn't buy a lot of plane tickets, gets a little harder for me. Any thoughts appreciated.
  9. So youre working in DickLand, whatd you expect? Best I could do, sorry. Retirement is great. Unless they recall me
  10. I know plenty of folks at Delta that made it to the training department in two years or less. Some civ some mil. 2020, Delta uses primarily seniority list pilots. But also has some non seniority guys as well. Seniority list instructors get paid at the highest FO seat they can hold. Today that means they all make 777 FO pay, guarantee 85 hours a month. Most guys I know are hitting 100 hours...~20k/month. As of late Delta has been having trouble getting enough instructors, going as far as to have recruiting booths in pilot lounges. I'd guess its the short Capt upgrade times, don't know for sure. You can now get hired to teach in a plane you've never flown. But it is an airline job. And while I know people who have hid in the training dept for years and years, at some point you're probably going to have the fly the line. Well, I guess you could go into some form of management. I have trouble believing the highest paid guy at DL is a Sim IP. Just based on what I see some of the super senior guys pulling off on the line. But I've been wrong before.
  11. Got mine at USAFA hobby shop.
  12. Interesting, hope you find it. I would sum up my airline impressions before I started as very similar to yours. I just didn't have anything else I really felt like doing. I mean, couldn't think of a single damn thing (I had several options, it's just that none of them excited me in any real way). Couple rounds of TAP didn't change it much. I decided to look for post mil employment through the ratio of most money for least amount of work. And here I am. Good luck man, it's a big world out there. You'll find something. Let us know what it is
  13. Purely out of curiosity, why not airlines?
  14. Dude, I appreciate your cynicism, I really do. But your lack of basic knowledge is kinda scary. Its pretty easy to look this stuff up.
  15. Few years back, was awaiting knee surgery, couldnt run. Took the bike test. Did exactly as I was told. Never broke a sweat. Failed. Great test.
  16. Dude, What an excellent post. Saying this as a guy who doesn't like the man. Thanks for the perspective
  17. Meth, it's a heck of a drug https://katu.com/news/local/oregon-man-accused-of-sexually-assaulting-a-chicken
  18. Good on him. Can't imagine what it would take for me to re-join the Air Force but good to see someone is staying in.
  19. Huh, there was a guy on either APC or FB DAL threads who had an interesting issue. He bid Capt as a very Jr hire and got it. But then lost the award because he didn't have a 1000 hours (FAA requirement). My impression was that he had the restricted ATP and got hired with les than a 1000....and still had less than that a few months into DAL. Or did I completely misread that and you need 1000 121 before upgrade?
  20. Eh, from one who enlisted under Montgomery GI bill, my take is it isnt about the money. The money from the GI. "They" know a certain number of enlistees will look at the 100 a month and say F that. And then no matter what, they can never use it. The 2400 dollar buy in is not at all the point, it is ensuring a sizable chunk of financially illerate 18 year olds will sign away fhe benefit dorever.
  21. Cant advise you on which path you should take, but in answer to your question, absofuckinglutely.
  22. Does it matter? I get paid away from the gate. The rest of it is off the clock. Average 4 day trip is 74ish hours away from base. I get paid 21 Dont get me wrong, its easy. But I put in a heck of a lot more than 75 hours a month
  23. WTF Air Force are you in? Trying to figure out how you could be an O4 and still be as naively retarded as you present. But you say you took the bonus which implies you're a pilot.....a naively retarded O4 pilot. Not buying it. It's one thing to be ignorant. Being arrogant about ignorance...that's special.
