Gurkhas are some crazy bastards

It will still probably be run as poorly as Manas is. Although it's tough to get much worse than Manas, only place to go is up! Looks like I'll miss it by a couple months

That checks, I was amazed at the behavior of many of the chiefs on my last deployment (except our squadron chief, who would tell other chiefs to shove it if they were messing with our guys). Luckily we had some awesome leadership that shielded us from most of the bullshit. The OG straight up told us on his commander's welcome brief... "I don't give a shit if you're wearing your reflective belt and I don't give a shit about your mustache, I'm not going to be walking around measuring it, I just expect you to work your ass off and get the mission done because a lot of people outside the wire depend on you" Probably the wisest thing I've ever heard from an O-6 or above.

Interesting, I have had the exact opposite experience with him... So to speak. Also my understanding is that the Sq/CC was being sent home due to actual flying related stuff, but they were delaying it because they didn't have a replacement and that's when the email occurred.

There's more to the story than just that. My understanding was it was for something way more serious, that email was just an additional thing to throw spears at...

Fair enough, I guess it's different when you've seen both but for many of us post 9/11 is s we've known.

I think he kind of has a point. We all complain about deployments (and for many people they will continue past OEF to Africa and wherever else) but when we're just training and not going to Afghanistan to actually hack the mission it could definitely cause boredom in some people. Obviously that is HIGHLY dependent on your airframe/job/mission but it holds somewhat true.

Which location is this?? I'm heading to one in a couple weeks...hopefully not that one

Not saying it won't ever happen (mostly because I dont pretend to know what the Air Force will do...) but there's no talk about getting CSOs now. As for the squadrons, it depends on who you talk to...the SOs who have had the shit deployed out of them over the past couple years are pretty worn out with it. Most of the junior pilots would rather be deployed than home station... Who knows what the future or ops tempo will be like once OEF winds down though. Overall, most SOs (and people here in general) love the mission.

I think he means more along the lines of they didn't earn their right to choose their airframe because they weren't high enough in the class...or maybe not, I only play an intelligent person on TV

Fighter Aircrew Conditioning Test (FACT) info
KState_Poke22 replied to a topic in General Discussion
Has there actually been any data to show that success on the FACT leads to better G tolerance? Or more specifically that someone who fails the FACT can't pull the 7 Gs in a 38? I barely passes whatever version of the FACT Vance had a few years ago (those hack squats almost did my skinny legs in) and I had no problem passing the centrifuge before 38s -
Maybe but the Class A's that come to mind haven't been attributed to worn out aircraft (that I've read, I admittedly don't know the whole story on 2...plus this one now)

Yeah if I successfully bailed out I would not skimp on the booze for the guys who made that possible...

So for Joe and Lear...if you get married while you're in the military are you going to not tell finance you're married that way you don't get "unfair" benefits? Or not apply for family sep pay when you deploy?

Opinions on C-17 v KC-10 (as well as bases?)

Downtown and mid town aren't bad at all. Granted you could live in Davis (a college town) and be closer to Travis and have better nightlife. -
Standby...YouTube video in progress

Well you see HerkFE has a friend...and his friend also has a friend...and that friend is Kevin Lacey...and HerkFE has never met him.

My favorite quote (this is a paraphrase) from "American Patriot" is after a reporter asked about why he wouldn't particpate in the program to return to Vietnam to meet former captors, see the prisons, etc like John McCain was doing. She asked something along the lines of "so you would never go back to Vietnam?" His response was "actually yes I would go back to Vietnam...leading a 4 ship of F-100s full of napalm."

"We Were Soldiers Once...and Young" isa good one if you haven't read it. The movie is pretty good but the book is amazing.

My favorite quote from that ridiculous article. "Administration leaks that emerged after the bin Laden raid prompted members of Team 6 to worry about their safety. For example, Michael Strange told his father he was working on a will before he returned to Afghanistan in the summer of 2011, his father said." Well I sure as hell hope he was working on a will before he returned, he probably worked on one every time he deployed, he has a dangerous as shit job. Even those of us without a job that dangerous when we deploy still have one.
-
...damn. Could be just the wording of the article but they made it sound like he was calling in air strikes as well. Maybe I'm out of the loop but I didn't realize any PJs got JTAC qualified.

I don't think they do, I made the unfortunate mistake of filling out the survey so I was in their system and kept getting threatening emails.

Same BS happened to me. I honestly just didn't care enough to figure out how to fight it and ponied up the $30 for the smog check

I can't vouch for that but they are starting up the MC-12 flow through again so I guess that's a possibility
