  1. It's the seat pin. There's a place to store it in the canopy handle.
  2. It was a completely pointless course but in the end I'm glad I went for nothing else than the TDY pay and drunken weekends in Atlanta or on the beach.
  3. Its great how humble the guy is, he doesn't talk about how amazing what he's doing is. He talks about things like how he would get claustrophobic and have panic attacks in his suit or how he felt lonely when he lost comms with Kittenger in a test run. Immediately you can feel how lonely you feel," Baumgartner said. "I wanted to hear the voice because I am so used to this. Every time we have been practicing on the ground, Joe was talking to me. So I am used to the voice, and (it) makes me feel safe."
  4. 2 on that. There's some crazy stories in there.
  5. These people need understand that what they do is support. They're invaluable, and they should take pride in that but they don't need to be acting like they're better than the people they support. I understand that my job as a United States Air Force pilot is to help the guys on the ground accomplish their objective and to help every one of them come home safe at the end of their mission. I'm proud as hell of doing that but I don't go around acting like I'm better than those guys on the ground (because I'm not) and that I'm in more danger or sacrifice more than the guys with boots on the ground getting shot at to hack the mission (because I'm not and I don't). This is the attitude of everyone I fly with too. For some reason they get it yet many of these shoes do not. They need to take pride in what they do and not act like they're the be all end all to the war effort!
  6. Definitely an interesting watch. It was a little unsettling watching the cockpit camera during the crash knowing that's what would happen to me in that situation...
  7. The unis are actually pretty cool aside from the ridiculous names. And the B-2 pattern on the helmet
  8. As far as I know they send you to a civilian school to get the type rating.
  9. Huggy pretty much said it all. It's a balance between length of commute, proximity to big city, and larger lot size. You just have to decide what matters to you
  10. Ironically after the Green Berets with Karzai had a JDAM dropped on them in the early parts of OEF Mattis had the closest available helos to go evacuate the wounded but he refused because he didn't know if there were enemy around. The Air Force launched two crews as soon as they could across half of Afghanistan in the daylight who had never even been in theater to go get the wounded. Very uncharacteristic decision from the General
  11. 2 on that. I'm a little over halfway through and it's been a great read. Tons of great history on the aggressor programs and the MiGs.
  12. I can't say I've ever seen a tower like that. I think anyone would lose at least a little if not more SA seeing a tower like that. Especially at night and especially after already having spacial d prior to seeing that tower.
  13. Stupid question...where would I go to look at the SIB?
  14. I'm reading it right now, I can't believe how ridiculous this guy is. He redefines tough. He accomplished more with one eye, one hand, and with an addiction than most completely healthy normal people.
  15. We're in the business of war. There are arguments for and against a war against Iran but all of those put aside, if we're going to fight Iran hell yes I want to be there. That's why I signed up, to operate my aircraft to go do harm or keep the people safe that are doing harm to people that want to hurt Americans. If I were about to get out, that would be my deciding factor to stay in.
  16. It seems to me like that can be applied to SERE or the buff. Except I guess you'd have to add noise for the buff
  17. Reference above post. In the chaos and tear gas and dark theater it's hard to believe someone could have got a finishing shot on the guy in the head. We'll obviously never know but I feel like most likely if the guy takes a round in his Kevlar he'll just specifically target the guy who shot him. I'm 100% in support of gun rights and CC but I just don't know if it would have helped in this situation.
  18. The guy had on Kevlar and had an AR-15. I realize Kevlar doesn't make you invincible but I'm not sure how much someone CC a 9 mil could have actually helped
  19. For the Korean War I've also heard From the Cockpit by Tex Atkinson is pretty good. I got it for Christmas but haven't read it yet
  20. Back in 38s a chick in our flight was heading up to Lincoln on an out and back and she needed a high approach for the grade sheet. Well the south flow high approach has a hilariously named IAF. The IP gets back and makes us watch the HUD tape. He's already laughing on the tape as she checks in with the controller when he realizes the controller is a chick too and the student says "Duke 69 request the high penetration via COOCH"
  21. As far as I know you can still go on the 11 month flow through which includes the one deployment and training or you can come here as an actual assignment where you'll be a permanent part of the 489th/427th.
  22. Reign Over Me is fantastic. I've always loved Adam Sandler's comedy but I didn't think he could play a serious role like he did in it. One of his best acting performances.
  23. Wow, awesome dude. You gotta give credit to the on scene medics too for stabilizing him after that kind of trauma. That's impressive work
  24. Hmmm, so what does that mean for the guys like me that just got the MC-12 permanent party gig out of UPT?
