YES! Another SF bashing! Yokota AB, Summer 2000, C-9 alert aircraft is departing on an urgent. A Japanese family runs the back gate near the C-9 squadron and med-evac alert ramp. Cops try to follow and lose them… For those of you not familiar with Yokota, it is a straight shot about a mile from that gate to the ramp. Well, the family easily evades the cops and drives onto the ramp and parks underneath the wing of the C-9. The family with 2 kids gets out and walks right up the steps and sits down in the first available seats and asked to be taken to America for asylum. The crew quickly call command post with a frantic “Helping Hand” call. Command post proceeds to inform the crew that they are not a “Priority 1” asset and since they are not parked in a restricted “Red” area that a “Helping Hand” is not a valid call… WTF, so they crew tells them some unauthorized individuals have just boarded their aircraft and were illegally parked. Then they asked if the cops could come out and write them a ticket! Well, the crew ends up removing the family from the aircraft and moves their car to the parking lot (oh, there is a patient onboard that needs to get to a hospital in Hawaii) so they can depart on their mission. As they try to close the door and depart the cops finally show up (15 min later) and put a dude with an M-16 at the top of the stairs and 2 other cops try to remove the crew and patients from the aircraft…. Now the crew is calling command post again trying to get a hold of the OG so they can now get the cops off of their aircraft before a patient dies. I love cops!

Years ago the FAA did a study on high speed aborts. Ask you safety office they should be able to find it. The findings from the study indicated that aborts initiated after 100 kts had a high probability of ending in a serious accident. This is where the no aborting for any malfunction that is not catastrophic (meaning the aircraft will not fly) after 100 kts techniques in many aircraft came from. It is extremely difficult to stop an aircraft close to refusal speed with damaged tires. Unfortunately, crews only have a split second to make an abort decision, then they have to accomplish the abort, and further hope nothing is wrong with the aircraft that will keep them from stopping.

I just completed my Bone Marrow donation last week. Here are a few notes from the process for future reference. I did the peripheral blood circulating cell (PBSC) donation. Not sure why it is not called PBCC? PBSC donation takes place at an apheresis center. To increase the number of blood-forming cells in the bloodstream, you will receive daily injections of a drug called filgrastim for five days before the collection. These injections suck ass. All of the side effects listed for this drug I got! Back pain, bone pain, head ache, shortness of breath, fatigue, and sweats. However, Tylenol held the pain a bay fairly well. I was able to get around just fine during these five days. Thing to remember for the actual donation. Your blood is removed through a needle in one arm and passed through a machine that separates out the blood-forming cells. This process is similar to donating plasma. The remaining blood is returned to you. Ok, make sure you are not cold when you start this procedure. Turn the heat on in the car on the way there. If you are cold your veins will have tough time, they will spasm and collapse causing machine to slow down. If the machine has to go slow you will be in that chair for 7 hours. It took 5.5 hrs for me they said 3.5 was the record. Do not drink a lot of water before the procedure because you will not be able to piss the entire time. There are Emergency piss procedures but you do not want to go through that.

Sounds like something a FAIP scheduler with ZERO experience would say. Hell, you could walk up holding your severed leg, tell the scheduler they are re-attaching it in an hour, and he would say the same thing!! Suck it up! If you fly with a head cold you run the risk of being DNIF for longer than a day. Missing a day or two of flying is no big deal, getting thrown into a flight last minute because someone went DNIF is part of being in the AF. It does not stop at UPT. I have seen too many people go longer term DNIF because they pushed a medical problem. Worst story I have is the member of my UPT class that was DNIF for 6 months. She did not do the chamber with us because she had a cold. When she went the next week, she was suffering from mild DCS symptoms. She did not tell anyone and when she went for day 2 of the chamber (we used to do 2 flights the second was up to 41K) she hit the ground and started doing the funky chicken passing 25K. The med-evaced her to Brooks where she spent a week in a dive chamber to the air bubble out of her brain stem. She finally recovered but need to wear glass after that. Finally flew again 6 months later. DON"T SCREW WITH THIS CRAP.

No, apparently it has been replaced with the Cyberspace physiology curriculum.

.02 what? .02 dollars or .02 cents?

Honestly, if neither of you have finished UPT it is not even worth worrying about it right now. UPT has always been full of surprises, you never know how things are going to turn out. He could change his mind half way through T-6s and want to go fighters. Hell, I have seen a couple both get fighters and then have one wash out of IFF and go to C-17s. Had another guy at Yokota turn down his follow on to C-17s to go E-3s because that is what his wife got out of T-1s. Only time I have heard of fighter married to airlift was F-16-C-17 assigned Shaw and Charleston, lived in Sumter, divorced a year later.

HOLY SHIT! Ok their web site is down and their email does not work... Then I remembered, I email these guys a year ago about all this Metzger crap. The guy emails me back using his personal email.. which works. This is his reply to his site being down! This is either true or it is not. We will see..... Could be a publicity stunt, but if the AF is doing something then this is going to be good!

Infectious Mono? As opposed to non-infectious Mono? I think if you have Mono you are limited to single seat aircraft, that way you can’t kiss anyone and further spread the disease. In short, unless you die from it, it will not hinder you from passing your flight physical.

WOW, I think they were AFCYBER’d. Their email address no longer works either. Looks like they pissed of the wrong person at OSI. Yea, WTF. It is 1416 and no answers!

Funny you should ask that. My current base has had more people wearing reflective belts get hit by cars (no serious injuries yet) that were turning and didn't see them in the cross walk. This has prompted me to start the 'REFLECTIVE BELTS KILL" Campaign!

Uh, I don't think it was the button getting "Frail" that caused it to pop....

They used really good glue when they built it.

A little lost, but I think I can help. What is a DH? Why did you need you married name for work? Now for the questions I can answer. I never hurts to have a DL in the state you currently live in. Every State wants you to have Plates in their State for Tax purposes, but if you are Active Duty they can't do anything about it. You can't get a CA DL if you don't live in CA. (Unless you husband can still use his HOR address, meaning someone you know lives there). However, it is not easy to get a license in CA when you live in MS, unless you have lots of time and frequent flyer miles. The only problem you may run into is if you go to Alabama and get stopped by the cops. It is technically illegal to be driving a car with plates from one state, in another state, with at DL from a third state. However once you show them your dependent military ID they will not worry about it. My wife and I live in WA, (well actually I live in Korea for next 8 months) We have cars with CA, MD, FL and WA Plates. She has a WA DL, I have a FL DL. It doesn't matter as long as you are active duty military.

You should never go non current for anything! Fly what you can, log what you need! EDIT: First person to post something about Core Values and Integrity is going to get virtualy kicked in the nuts!!!

Some of the placards may be located in the trunk, or the back seat. Airmen are encouraged to use ESP in determining if it is in fact a staff car that is approaching. I hate this crap. Hey, let’s play where’s Waldo with the placard. If we have to standardize our PT gear and uniforms they can standardize where to place there damn placard!

I would not sweat it, unless you go to BYU. At FSU you would get kicked out if you didn't have 2 bottles in you fridge at all times. I would take advantage of free chicks and alcohol while you can. Soon you will graduate, get sent to the Died, and you will not see either ever again!

As long as it is an American car and not a ROK bumber car I am pretty sure you can. I did it when I was stationed in Japan 8 yrs ago. Caveat: As long as you were authorized to ship one over when you left the states.

Education/Student Loan questions (SCRA, repayment)
Butters replied to a topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Crap, you are right, I always get that part wrong. But I thought it only apllied if you were being deployed, not just joining the military and going to UPT. Anyway, it is really up to your provider so asking never hurts. I just paid mine off during UPT, i was not spending a lot of money studying all the time. -

No, for a lot of reasons. You were not in the military when you acquired the debt and OTS and UPT do not meet the intent of the SSRA which is primarily meant for those who are deployed ISO combat operations.
