  1. The few woman flyers I've worked with that had a chip on their shoulders also sucked at flying. The good ones were a non-factor and got along with everyone. Big surprise.
  2. "The Air Force is changing the current process for obtaining waivers from specific height requirements for pilots, a move that James said would give 900 more women the opportunity to compete for those coveted spots over the next five years." Cockpit designers are sexist!
  3. This is all very depressing.
  4. More like Fighter Command and Bomber Command.
  5. Well, according to their tax filings, Venture Humanity Inc. has received about $50k/year and has about $50k/year in expenses, so I have a hard time believing that they've raised $8m since 2001. Especially considering the McGuire event raised a whopping $597. And of course, that $597 was actually a comparative loss considering it took a couple dozen (S)NCOs and officers a couple of hours to raise it. This is why corporate philanthropy is dumb.
  6. Welp, thread's over then.
  7. That is ugly as hell.
  8. I like the car analogy. The F-35 is like the El Camino of airplanes!
  9. So files on the network will take as long to load as Sharepoint? That's great. That also explains why my email boxes take so long to sync.
  10. If I had to choose the dominant religion of Air Force officers, it would be non-religious. I'm sure many of us believe in the Christian God, but no one brings it up. I can literally count on one hand the number of times I've heard someone talking about Christianity at work. If a Muslim airman were ever discriminated against, it would be because they were religious in general, not because they were a member of the wrong religion. As far as race goes: same. Nobody gives a shit. The US military is probably one of the world's most diverse organizations without the newest diversity push. Only 10% of Army officers are black? Well, the US population is 13% black. Sounds about right, and nobody treats them any differently. The most important criteria for how well someone fits in, at least in an Air Force flying squadron, is still 1. How much of a bro you are and 2. Whether or not you're any good in the jet.
  11. I honestly think somebody posted a reply in the wrong thread and everybody else just rolled with it. Damn tabs.
  12. Lots of T-38 students have been assigned heavies in the recent past, but as far as I know, none have been cross-flowed to fighters. Have any first assignment RPA guys gotten a fighter follow-on?
  13. C-17s only have 3 flights for initial qual. As far as trainers go, does it really matter if the two guys are sitting side by side or in tandem?
  14. Damn it. That right there is why people want to leave. They love the flying. They love hanging out with the other dudes at work. The pay could be better but is pretty good for the shit we get to do. And the sense of accomplishment when completing a mission is like no other. And since we're not retards, we understand the nature of political and budgetary constraints. But when the AF downplays the contributions of a particular community to portray what they assume the politicians want to hear, that shit sucks. When the AF messes up the easy stuff, that's when people get mad. Just tell the world our best stories, and tell us the truth about why things are happening.
  15. I don't know dude, these days, a jet could carry 690,000 lbs of cargo and pregnant patients while strafing terrorists and sitting nuke alert, but still be on the chopping block because it's 1.) already built and 2.) only exists in 2 or fewer congressional districts. The cost-effectiveness and operational ability of airframes isn't what drives Congress, to a point.
  16. If you don't think the KC-10 is important to the nation's AR capability, you haven't been paying attention. Every decision that has and will be made, regardless of the outcome, is political.
  17. He'll be ok, he's still got some of the Taliban VSP money left.
  18. Military retirement pensions cost the DoD $50B+ per year. Switch to the equivalent of matching TSP contributions and save a shit-ton while reinvesting into the economy. The A-10 cost is peanuts.
  19. You owe it to yourself to check out Penn Valley, Grass Valley, and Nevada City before you buy in the Lincoln suburbs. 25m commute, big parcels, cool small towns. With apologies to anyone west of the base, I could never recommend living in Linda, Yuba, or Marysville.
  20. That slide is missing the booty.
  21. No. Let them die by 30mm and Tweet the HUD tapes. This is the 21st Century equivalent of placing their heads on a pike outside the city gates.
  22. Maybe it was a directed offensive cyber operation.
  23. Well that's an expensive plan.
  24. Honest question: how do CA politics affect a non-taxpayer? I feel like I'm scamming the system by not paying income tax but still living in CA. I used to think the property tax was high, until I learned how high some East Coast areas can be. Watch out for Mello Roos. Gas costs about 25% more, but that's kind of insignificant on an officer's budget. Maybe if you want to own >10 rd magazines that could be a big deal as well. I think it's important to remember that you have a good chance of being based at both locations.
  25. *see Travis thread for what areas to live in. California can go from a dream location to a Snoop video real quick.
