I can’t speak to all of this, but I do know from personal experience that the only hernia you are allowed to continue flying with is an umbilical hernia. Any other location has to be surgically repaired according to the Medical Standards. My recovery took about 6-8 weeks before I was back to 100%. Can’t speak to the dates/class slot piece, but hope this helps in some way. I would think that if he can get the surgery done ASAP, he would be good to go for OTS in June. I can’t imagine trying to go through OTS with a hernia.

Question for the masses. I’m about 50/50 on if I will be separating in the next 6 to 8 months (pending second passover). Should I go ahead and post my airline apps with my end of UPT commitment being my availability date (1.5 years away) and move it up if I get passed over, or just wait to get passed over before I publish them with an “immediate” availability date? Thanks!

Saw Downsized last night. Probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I want my 1.5 hours of my life back.

Glad to see Gen Doherty is suggesting flying at 6-7k feet with no masks. Sounds like he is still the same winner he was when he was at Sheppard.

Took the survey too and actually replied almost verbatim to your points above. I also think that the fly track should be 100% on time promotion to Lt Col.

I love my job. I hate the Air Force.
-
Same here. Also, go Guard.

I’m my experience, the incompetence that you have experienced is really just the tip of the iceberg. It’s a wonder the Air Force even functions at all. Having said that, flying in the military is phenomenal (most of the time) and few things can top it. The people in your squadron will be the best people (most of them) you will ever work with. Everything else pretty much sucks on Active Duty. Complete lack of focus on anything resembling actual combat effectiveness/efficiency, bases shutting down for the dog and pony show for the next 4-Star asswipe who comes to town. Who pretends to care about the people but really you are just a number on his bio and an asset to be bargained with. That’s the bad news. The good news is that there is this organization called the Air National Guard and while some units are more like AD than others, it would allow you to keep your Lockheed job and be apart of something bigger. I would never in a million years let my son join the AF, but would actively assist him in joining the Guard. Bottom line it’s your life and your decision but there is a reason there is a mass exodus of pilots right now. However I do have 2 friends who enjoy it and are planning on staying in.

I’ve seen a dude who punched from the 6 with his sleeves rolled up. Ouch.
-
If you would have told me as an 18 year old how bad the AF sucked, I would have just said to myself that you must have not been a very good pilot/officer and it won’t happen to me. Unfortunate but true.

Around the 8 year mark.

Bottom line it’s frowned upon to not at least finish probation before dropping long term military orders. I know quite a few Guard units that won’t even let guys do it out of fear of potentially hurting other guys from getting hired on at that particular airline. One of my students at UPT was hired by United shortly after being hired at a fighter guard unit. They told him they would defer his slot a year while he finished probation at United, in an effort to not damage the relationship.

Air Force to begin testing enlisted pilots

You old timer! That IS the point now. Short of a major mental breakdown... everyone gets something! It will be sad to see what happens in the next 5 year with respect to Class As. -
Actually changed my mind. I’m shooting for a school slot and directly into leadership, thinking maybe I’ll start as a DO, but definitely BTZ to O-6 (to catch up with my peers). I realized they never deploy, never do anything worthwhile and mostly spend their days forwarding emails. They also get to pretend to care about people and come up with cool catch phrases like “mission first! People? Yeah we got those too”. I’m “all in” now. Just picked up another strat for my O-5 board and if I play my cards right I should be able to be the Wing Exec after the last ass kisser moves on to ACSC. All in all, things are looking up for the Duck-nasty.

Granted, however most of the time is spent getting out of the AF. My last board went through the Office of the SecDef in like 10 days, but spent 3 months in AF circles.
-
Get the hell out of here with your new ideas. We would rather just keep trying the ones that have failed and got us into this mess over the last 2 decades!
-
Yeah it shows mid March on mypers just wondering when the documents the board saw will be posted to PRDA under the Board section. My last board record was posted about 2 weeks or so after the board met if I remember correctly.
-
Any 09 guys “as met” records show up on PRDA yet?
-
They should probably start by grabbing all of the guys who were 38 guys during the last “overmanned fighter” period back in 2009-2012. At least the ones who are left.
-
As desperate I am to leave the AF, I would volunteer for a 3 year tour for the OA-X. Which would be an amazing deal for the AF because although I am extremely lazy, I’m also the best pilot I know, just ask anyone who knows me. On second thought, I see the AF messing this up too, nah I changed my mind, I’m still out.

Make sure your wife and girlfriend never meet.

Go to Bulldog Burger Company in the Cotton District. Great talent and even better food. “2” on Starkville girls w/Daddy issues.

I love those Starkvegas girls, unfortunately they don’t like most kids from California.
