  1. Never thought I would say this because he was a UF grad (sorry M2) but Go Tebow!
  2. Rainman... wow. Internet @$$ kissing aside, my respect for you just skyrocketed...
  3. What do we expect? 95% of the Air Force hasn't been at war in the last 10 years. Unless you count the war against common sense that is waged daily by the shoe clerks. They don't understand or appreciate sacrifice because most of them haven't had to do it like we have. Missing kids births and birthdays, holidays, anniversaries is common for the rated folk and the other guys and gals who make it happen, yet scoffed at by the corporate Air Force.
  4. Ha ha! I was just told about a Lt Col (guard) at the Deid who was told that "your zipper needs to be in the middle of your nametag" by some Chief. The Lt Col then took his name tag and moved it down so just the top of the nametag was attached to the bottom of the velcro square and then walked away. Awesome.
  5. No go for me. I dug through the regs and found the whole 2/3d of your commitment, found a Guard unit to sponsor me and had the OG call AFPC, where they told us I shouldn't even waste my time putting in an application with any more than 2-3 years left on my contract. I was then told by several other guys I trust in my AD unit that if I got turned down with my PC app, that would be an almost sure fire way to get a one way ticket to a UAV.
  6. Good question. Dealt with this one myself. After talking to the idiots... er I mean the people at AFPC, your "initial commitment" is the commitment you came with the day you entered Active Duty. So for you it would be 4 years initial commitment. For arguments sake, you could have Palace Chased at the 2/3rd point of your 4 years, even though you incurred the additional 6 year commitment as a Nav. In reality, although you would be eligible to PC at that time, it would probably never happen as the Air Force just dumped a ton of money into you and they expect you to serve out the majority of those 6 additional years. Having said that, nothing the Air Force has ever done with manpower has ever made sense (reference VSP, T-38s to Heavies while undermaned in fighters and overmanned in AMC, the whole Deid thread). I can't speak to how early they are letting Navs Palace Chase but for Pilots the most I have seen lately is 2 years early. Hope this helps and good luck!
  7. As far as I know, the only "foreign" device I have seen on a Marine is Army Jump wings, and if they happen to go to both Benning and get Naval jump wings, they are supposed to only wear the Naval jump wings. And the jump wings always go above the ribbon on a Marine's uniform, never seen someone with wings on the right side. I could be wrong though, it has happened once, but only once.

    Jokes/Fun at UPT

Me too. Pics or it didn't happen.
  9. True true Rainman. Unfortunately, there are many fighter guardsman finding this out the hard way and I don't see this getting any better. With Active Duty running a shortage on fighters, those "ANG Assets" are just too tempting not to take!
  10. Thanks for the info guys. One more question. Is the internet fast enough to do the Netflix streaming stuff?
  11. Any updated info on manas? Are things still better than the deid for deployers? Thanks for the info guys!
  12. I remember back in the day some AF group called "Blue Steel" or something like that. They were like a 4 piece band and actually pretty good from what I remember. I remember one black guy who played guitar and was funny as hell. I say we ditch the 35 piece and go for a 4 piece. Part of the government downsizing. Then again I was only 10 at the time so who knows. Oh yeah. TIB sucks.
  13. Uh oh... I am batting 2 for 3.
  14. Sorry, nothing to add to your search. When I first read your title I assumed you were a Doctor looking for a wife who is a pilot. Good luck with your search!
  15. Madison Trail is arguably the best apartments in Altus. I did hear from a friend that the walls are thin, but don't worry there aren't any hott girls to bone in the area, so unless you bring your own... you are SOL.
  16. That makes it sound like if you don't get the mins on pushups, you get a zero for the pushup portion, BUT if you max out everything else, you still get a 90 on the PFT and pass because you scored higher in the other areas. "Airmen failing to meet a Target Component Value, but still scoring at or above the Minimum Component Value (lowest "fitness/health risk" limit), can still pass the assessment by exceeding targets in other components." So can they make the strength portion any more irrelevant? How about we just make the PFT based off of your run score and waist measurement. /sarcasm The Air Force doesn't want you to be in shape, they want runners. For crying out loud, I get just as many points for my effing waist measurement than my pushups and situps combined? No wonder we are the laughing stock of the military. Whatever, I will put up with this bullsh*t until I am eligible to get out, then pull the plug on big blue. EDIT: Sorry for the b*tching, I didn't used to be like this. The AF instilled this quality into me!
  17. My Dads been a pilot at Southwest for almost 20 years and he loves it. It is a great company and the majority of the people working there really care about doing the job the right way. I remember one time flying back home to see my family and the flight attendant comes up to me and asks if I was military (guess the short hair gave it away). She thanked me and offered me a free adult beverage of my choosing for the flight.
  18. I appreciate the advice, but I am not worried about getting a job with the airlines. I am more looking into how do I/can I get out of AD Blue, so I can make a better life for my family. Have to admit, never really thought about them taking revenge and sticking me with a non-flying gig or something to screw me, so I appreciate that perspective. I did have a Guard buddy explain to me how the AF keeps pilots: "After pilot training and your first assignment, they usually assign you a white jet tour. That usually puts you up the 8-9 year mark. Then they go ahead and stick you in a non-flying staff job. You think about getting out, but realize that if you did you would have to put a big fat ZERO next to recent flying time on airline applications. So you stick it out for another 4 years and take a nice ACP bonus. The Air Force rewards you by putting you in a flying assignment. That puts you at about 16 or so total time, so you have no thought of punching now. Then with only one more assignment between you and the door... the Air Force screws you again by placing you in a non-flying job, further cementing your dependance to the Big Blue Teet." Thanks again guys... I am going to have to sit down with the family and pray real hard about what to do next, but man I want to slap those papers down so bad! Hey by the way... how the hell did you know my name was Will Robinson?
  19. Im a pilot right now, looking to get out of Big Blue and experience life as a Guard/Reserve guy and an airline gig on the side. After this assignment I should only have around 5 years left on my ADSC from after pilot training. I know the reg says 2/3 of your initial commitment or something like that to even be eligible, which for me was 4 years out of ROTC. I am going to go ahead and follow Bergman's advice and be ready to send the papers up the chain anyways, worst thing they can do is say no. Thanks for the insight though guys. This place is always a wealth of info and advice.
  20. Does anyone thing it is possible to get 5 years shaved off for a palace chase? Or is this just a pipe dream?
  21. Unless you are at Sheppard. Then it is actually 40% of your assignment. So if you do AMAZING in T-6s you can be below average in T-38s and still end up very happy on assignment night.
  22. Im punching as soon as I get a chance.

    New AF Motto

I like "FLY HIGH". Then we could put the motto on a patch with a pilot who has bloodshot eyes. Take that Air Force!
