  1. Thanks guineapigfury! Like a lot of people in a similar situation I debate daily on whether to jump or not. As I understand it right now the AF is conducting two boards in 2017 which would have my 2nd one meeting in March 2017 I believe (no mypers access right now). The AF and I have differing views on how best to care for my family (EFMP) so exploring all available options. Although I have thoroughly enjoyed my time flying over my career, family comes first! Thanks again for the info
  2. Question for the masses: I am coming up on 17 years (11M) (7 of that enlisted). My first Maj board just met in Jul. If I am passed over on the next board and am offered continuation, does that essentially give me an ADSC? My angle is could I put my availability date right after the 2nd board results with accepting continuation and stay AD until getting "the call"? Thanks in advance for any valuable responses!
  3. When we lived in the old house it belong to base housing, then when they began renovations on the old house we were force moved to a new home under privatization. Mox
  4. I am running into some problems trying to see if I qualify for partial DLA. I was forced moved because of renovations from one base housing unit to another. From reading JFTR Vol 1 U-5630 Ch. 5, Part G, Para 15, it seems as though I would qualify. However, no one at my base seems to know who is suppose to fund it. They need a LOA (line of accounting?) to process the payment, but finance sends me to TMO, who sends me to housing, who sends me to Privatized housing, who sends me to finance, and the circle continues. Has anyone had an experience with this or any idea on how to help? Thanks in advance!

    Ejecting

Actually ejecting out of a fighter (ACES II) ejection seat the survivability rate is extremely high (around 95%). That's if you don't wait to late to make the decision. The ACES II is tested to have a mode envelope of 0/0, which is 0 altitude, 0 airspeed. If you ejected above 250kts/15000ft, you are stuck to the seat until the environmental sensor on the back of the seat senses outside parameters and tells the recovery sequencer to release the chute, lap belts, etc. If you do decide to eject you will be pulling anywhere from 11 to 22 G's depending on the type of aircraft. Sorry, I am a prior Egress systems specialist. As far as heavy aircraft, I am currently on C-130's I not sure if I would even attempt to bailout. Just ride it in and take one for the home team. I think the survivability rate for bailout is alot lower than ejecting. Mox
  8. Your right, we did not know until we were ready to take the aircraft again(after mx signed it off as a lightbulb problem). We were at FL240 when the aircraft filled with smoke, we all got on O2, and I went looking for the problem, but the smoke was so thick, I could not find the prob. To describe how thick it was, when I got to the bottom of the flight deck, I could not see the Utility res. system, could barely see the Nose emergnecy gear lever in the CC. I could not see so we opened the hatch, cleared all the smoke out, then we could not find the source. turning the AC pack off probably would have been the best decision to start with, but we were passing over the mtns. in Afghanistan, and did not want to wait for it to clear out, for us to be able to see outside. 9. We had an IFE into K2, because smoke filled the entire C-130. (The step in the EP for removing the forward escape hatch works like a charm). We sat in K2 for about a week, and then a mx guy signed the X off saying it was a lightbulb in the cargo compartment that was touching a piece of insulation. I'm sorry, but I did laugh in his face when he signed it off. I actually took a picture of what he said caused it as well as the write-up. We were going to run the engines to try and duplicate the problem, when the prop low oil light came on. Come to find out, we had blown the #2 and #4 seals in the prop and the oil was leaking into the compressor section, and into the Aircraft. Mox
