Kind of dating myself, but does anyone remember when the Matcheteros terrorist group blew up 8 out of 12 of Puerto Rico ANGs A-7Ds on the flightline at Muniz AB in January of 1981? They came in at night and tossed satchel charges down the intakes. I don't know if this started PRANGs downfall, but still. Very much so they do. Ever notice that even if there are no engines running on a Navy/Marine Corps flightline, that the ramp crew still have their mickey mouse ears in place simply because they're "on deck"? Check it out next time you're XC at an NAS/MCAS

Received it yesterday. Many thanks Steve and uhhello!

Same. I'd always wondered about that though regards the FOD or fire on a heavyweight T/O. Some summer days at HMN, the remaining engine would only take me to my ejection alt...maybe, plus unlike many UPT bases, our normal duty runway had 15,800 avail for T/O and abort (12.8 + 3k overrun). Don't know specific for the 60, but the earlier 23/24 and many of the 25 series Lears had drag chutes installed for aborts (or landings, I suppose...if needed).

If the AF seems indifferent to this story, for whatever reason, then what Militarycorruption needs to do is attack it from the site-hacking angle. Depending on what evidence they possess, if it's specific enough (worse if they have evidence that points to the AF or someone specific therein), then they need to present it to the FBI for the federal crime it is. The reason for the hacking in the first place will then have to come to light...ie- the Metzger story. This could also lead to an FBI investigation of Metzger and of AFOSI, if it can be shown that OSI brass or rank-and-file were either negligent in their investigative responsibilities, or following someone's unlawful orders to impede an official investigation. Any of these allegations, if found to be fully factual, could have some very interesting ramifications and firings/arrests/trials that would make Nuremburg look like freaking small claims court.
-
Like I said before, if this turns out to be true, and can be linked back to DOD/Pentagon/USAF or anyone contained therein, this could have ramifications one end at a potential Congressional level, as well as a Department of Justice level; 1st Amendment and all..... On a different note, again if this is all true, this would prove the danger-side of having a CYBER command; who's to say it's not being or won't be utilized inter-CONUS, something the FBI/DHS is charted to do to date. Would they be self-policing? Welcome to 1984......thought police anyone?

Question for anyone that might know off the top of their head: If I have a CFI/CFII that has expired, would I need to retake the FOI (since I already completed it once). And will Mil Comp-ing an MEI from having been a Multi-Engine IP also rehack the previously expired CFI/CFII?
-
If they were AFCYBERd or otherwise shut down in any official way by the AF, there'd be legal hall to pay.

Murphy's Law of Combat #49: "The combat worth of a unit is inversly proportional to the smartness of its outfit and appearance"
-
It's a standard brevity term. Hear that all the time in fighter traffic patterns at AFBs when dealing with formations in the pattern; though I'll concede that it does sound kinda
-
Agree. And those that have been party to this coverup in the upper echelons are likely people that have espoused the AF's Core Values to the troops, yet have rarely followed them themselves. This will be interesing to see.

Id venture to say that there are FAR more pressing issues to solve with the concept of officer rot than a uniform issue. I don't condone curing a headache by cutting off the head. That said, whats the pressing issue? Is there a problem with our current uniform wear and how we all as an Air Force wear it? People work, they wear utilities. People attend functions or special events, they wear blues or service dress. Is it the "when" that's a problem...ie not wearing blues enough? Or are people looking like crap in the uniforms they're wearing now? Fix the problem at hand......if there even is one. But hey, that's how people get ahead....create a problem, then devise the solution for that problem.
-
That blues or not is such a hotbed issue at all. Maybe alls well with everything else in the AF and we just don't know it?
-
Agree. We could be the pride and envy of 3rd world banana republic air forces the world over by doing that. Can we as an Air Force do any more to keep our place as laughing stock of the other services? On second thought, I better not ask that.
-
As a part-timer, yes it is. It's my choice what BS I put up with and when I put up with it anymore Seriously though, its just more needless ass-pain always having to have two uniforms available (blues and flightsuit) in order to change into if one gets tossed on the schedule on said Monday. And too, it's trying to solve a problem by doing something completely unrelated to the problem at hand. We have some sort of looks or heritage problem? How's wearing the blues uniform going to solve that? How about doing our jobs well first before worrying about looks. How about getting rid of some of the uber-PC crap thats prevelant, ala that described in the Dumbness in the Deid thread Point is, as others have mentioned, we have FAR more pressing issues going on that a BS uniform change isn't doing anything for and is a waste of time considering, IMHO. Its looking more and more like the emperor has no clothes.

Some of the worst officers when it comes to the rank thing is the Army; they consider rank within ranks, ie which captain is senior to which captain. Ran into this as an ALO during an exercise. Prior to the exercise, I'm to check in at the Batallion TOC. Looking at the TO&E for the unit I was supporting, I see that the FSO (not Flight Safety....Fire Support. my ground support counterpart to my being the air support guy) is some Capt who's name I can't remember, but for the sake of the story will call Jim Jones. Showing up at the TOC much later, I see among the many people there a guy in BDUs talking to what appear to be Arty FOs. He has Captain rank on one collar, crossed arty tubes on another, one nametape that says "US Army" and another that "Jones".....hmmm, must be the guy. I go up to him when as he's reviewing some paperwork by himself and address him by his first and last name, introducing me by my first and last name and who I am....a common greeting among those of the same rank, or with any semblance of civility. He, annoyingly acknowleges me, then proceeds to tell me how "umm, yeah, that's Captain Jones, Captain. We use rank and surname around here, I suggest you do to." Fine, ###### you very much too. Later that evening during chow, amongst conversation he inquires how I got my commission and what my date of rank was. I answered something to the effect of "OTS, and date of rank?....######ing Tuesday, I don't know...don't really care for our purposes here...I'm here to provide you air support, not play Hitler youth academy." Needless to say, our working relationship was business at best....which is fine, he was a nitwit anyway.

Airforceots.com.....lol. Didn't know the place had its own website. Once there was good enough. Sieg heil to you too Mr SJ4. I wore white socks every day for the 11 years I flew Hogs and Hawks, and so far as I remember, my munitions hit where I wanted them to, when I needed them to. Heck, I've taxiied at night inside of 300' before catching it, have descended below MDA when I thought I had some semblance of runway environment, exceeded 300 kts below 10k outside an MTR, scrambled in questionable wx in order to make a GCAS request, etc, etc, same shit everyone else here has done at one point or another.......some stuff is just an operational need or event. Mr Literal above needs to lighten up a bit on the cherry kool aid. Then again, I have to remember....airforceots.com.
-
That would make sense. Not having seen the actual message though, it wouldn't surprise me if they actually did require this; seeing as how this apparently was some sort of hotbed issue.......ongoing war be damned.

Combat Systems Officer (CSO) info; Nav, EWO, WSO
MD replied to a topic in Combat Systems Officer (CSO)
With CSOs then, does that mean that B-52s will no longer have hard crew (sts) positions in the back and downstairs anymore? Guys will occupy whichever seat they're assigned ala the B-1 OSO/DSO going to WSO? And on that subject, why are they still kept separate on the BUFF? -
All ribbons and full size badges? So for O's, no more of just wearing the wings or functional badge above the pocket on the blues shirt, we've got to wear all ribbons now? I've always felt ribbons were a service-dress only thing, but that's just me. I wonder if we have Navy envy now or something like that; where the flightsuit is a utility uniform only for flight, and flyers not actively flying or prepping to fly will be in something akin to their khakis they wear day to day. What will be next? No stopping anywhere off base in a flight suit? Glad I'm only a traditional Guardsman anymore....

Combat Systems Officer (CSO) info; Nav, EWO, WSO
MD replied to a topic in Combat Systems Officer (CSO)
Thread revival.... Reading a post in the CFI thread and having a couple questions about table Navs, this thread seemed the most appropriate place for it. Is traditional Nav going to be a track much longer at SUNT? I ask this with the knowledge of various airframes no longer using Navs besides RC-135s and various C-130 models (if there's more, I just missed listing them). And with 130s having some J-models, and the other models (some, all?) going AMP, are traditional Navs going to be a almost a thing of the past soon? Also, anyone know why the cultural difference exists between AF Navs (WSOs, EWOs, etc) and Navy NFOs? In terms of how the Navy treats NFOs as akin to co-pilots, whereas the AF doesn't? Are there still differences in how Navs are seen vis a vis command opportunities as opposed to what the Navy lets NFOs do or qualify for? -
Missileers used to wear blue jumpsuits, but in the mid-90s (IIRC) were directed to get rid of the blue suits and wear green bags in order to not have fiscal expenditure on the two separate types. To be fair, I believe they wanted to keep the blues but essentially weren't allowed to. Now, A-2s? I don't know. Scarves may have been part of the old jumpsuit, but I can't remember clearly. Davis Monthan Titan 2 missile crew below.

Unfortunately, there are still too many LtCol Desktop's around the CAF......some things don't change in nearly 40 years.

Then the AF, in their infinite wisdom, will start drug testing us for ecstasy.

Info on Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS/UAV/RPA)
MD replied to a topic in Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA/RPV/UAS/UAV)
The key here is not whether you can switch airframes, but will they let you. The Guard UAV units are there to help the active duty UAVs with mainly manning. With the number of UAV orbits the Army wants and the number the AF is planning for, compared to the number we have and the manning available; IMHO, getting allowed to leave a UAV from one Guard unit to real airplane in another would be a pipe dream. Plus, Houston is going to expect some payback from you for them sponsoring you to UPT. By the time you can be released, your real aircraft currency in mil aircraft is deader than dead, and all your time, save UPT, is remote control. Essentially, your last flight in UPT is your fini flight in the AF in real planes! That's the suck factor of these UPT slots for Guard units, since they have no companion trainer aircraft. Additionally, you don't want to burn a bridge of having Houston put you through UPT get you your wings, then you jump ship with them to go to another unit to fly since you never wanted to be UAVs anyway. For the Guard UAV UPT slots, you HAVE to be willing to have resigned yourself to perma-UAV, at least for the forseeable future (companion trainer dependant). -
PAC Off is the only way to strafe.
