That is an excellent point. My attention to my investments drastically diminishes during deployments. I don't understand why they try to impress upon us that it's an advantage to have multiple investment options in the TSP/401k plan. There is no better investment than a guaranteed annuity. Who can beat a riskless payout for the rest of your life? And I was personally surprised that only 20% of the force stays until 20.

Rainman: people have a valid point that TCAS is an SA mitigator. Just because us "Herbs" have grown accustomed to using it to augment our SA in ridiculous places doesn't mean we're incompetent pilots who don't clear ahead of the airplane, listen to the radios, or work out the next 5-10 minutes of the airspace. You're really coming off like a patronizing know-it-all. I think that's what Joe was saying with the UPT remark. But you've got us dead to rights that Crew Report is a tool. *** In terms of military retirement, I hope they don't take mine away before I get there. Only 10 years to go! (edited for grammar)

For God and country. Amazing story.

Good luck Jonathan - as turn about is fair play, do you have any advice for a flyer trying to get into the medical field? As I understand it, if accepted, they pay for your med school and then AFTER your residency you owe them 4 years. Do you have any advice? I'm finishing my pre-med courses and studying for the MCAT...thanks for any tips.

Excellent use of the English language. You are a complete and utter tool. Q3 overall for pissing on fellow aviator's graves.

Two. PNFs don't get the "herbivore", "rubber dog crap", "trash-hauler" charmed life that we enjoy.

You think we're bad, you should see our Evaluator Loads, FEs, and Booms. Yikes.

For Alert Force, For Alert Force... Be Advised...
PirateAF replied to PolyestherDuck's topic in Squadron Bar
Oddly enough, these folks think the 21st of May will also be of significance for the end of all things...but for entirely different reasons. To quote Matthew 24:36 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." -
Found this one while surfing jobs at US.gov - if you still have your clearance, give it a look. Pay looks great, with definite fringe benefits.

Oh you silly student pilots. Avoid the RPA...if you can.

Thread re-direct...has anyone here had any experience with HAP? The Army Corps of Engineers program that will pay you 90% of your home loss if you had to sell due to a PCS? We qualify but I'm trying to see how long it takes for the gov't to process the paperwork and issue a payment. Thanks!! -
Can't wait to read this one...

M2, Please don't take offense, but I don't see the point of letting citizens own assault weapons. I fully agree with gun ownership for hunting, home defense, and self protection. Your well laid out argument concerning CCW is as relevant as my theory that he would have been stopped much earlier had he only had a revolver. Can you name an incident where a home-owner has defended himself more ably with an assualt weapon against an intruder than with an ordinary pistol? I remember Columbine (12 dead): "During the shootings, Harris carried a 12 gauge Savage-Springfield 67H pump-action shotgun (serial no. A232432) and a Hi-Point 995 Carbine 9 mm semi-automatic rifle with thirteen 10-round magazines, fired 96 times. Harris's other weapon, the shotgun, was fired a total of 25 times. Harris committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his shotgun. Klebold carried a 9 mm Intratec TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun manufactured by Navegar, Inc. with one 52-, one 32-, and one 28-round magazine. He also carried a 12 gauge Stevens 311D double barreled sawed-off shotgun (serial no. A077513). Klebold's primary weapon was the TEC-9 handgun, which was fired a total of 55 times. Klebold would later commit suicide via a shot to the left temple with the TEC-9." I remember Georgia Tech (32 dead): "Cho used two firearms during the attacks: a .22-caliber Walther P22 semi-automatic handgun and a 9 mm semi-automatic Glock 19 handgun." Where do we go from here...more guns in the hands of responsible citizens...less guns in the hands of all citizens...?

Glad you're stuck at a desk. In my opinion this was an oversight problem. I've got the same background as you "goaround", and your negative attitude towards fellow crewdogs who love the c17 and its mission doesn't help anyone.

Do you think this was a result of the blended force makeup that's in place at Elmo (TFI)? Perhaps with the mixed crew, one chain of leadership relied on the other one to provide proper oversight and vice versa. "Because he was an accomplished aviator, leadership allowed him to operated independently with little or no oversight." (AIB, pg. 25) I'd like to think that the OG/CC, had he flown with the crew, would have called knock it off on the first turn. But then again, who knows.

smiths.jax at gmail.com smithsjax@gmail.com smithsjax at gmail.com smi.ths.ja.x@gmail.com That should do it...malicious bots (like predators, but for the internet) scour the web all the time for email addresses. On a totally unrelated topic, gmail doesn't recognize periods.

I always call transportation myself after I land. You are right - cp misses the call more often than not.

You want Intel? - in the continuing quest to do more with less, the Air Force cuts manpower from all the wrong places (orderly room, MPF, finance, comm, etc.) We flyers realize that we have less support on base from support agencies, we get it. We can go without being paid, without our computers working, without our orders being correct or without our records being updated prior to promotion boards. We can go without our family separation pay, combat pay, flight pay, you name it. We can spend an extra hour or two after landing waiting for a bus or waiting for billeting arrangements to end an 18hr day. We are doing more with less...less service from our supporting agencies. And we are doing more... We get the job done and support the troops on the ground no matter what - proud to serve. What do you do?
