My Senator (Sen Mike Rounds) actually did a ton that you would never hear about. He is a genuinely great person. I know it is popular to hate Congress but he made a real difference for the military and for constituents, including regular Airmen that were getting screwed over by DoD. For example, I made a trip to Ellsworth when I was there and met with the Vice WG/CC. He told me that they were having issues with Tricare. There weren't enough providers in certain specialties and the providers they did have were taking months to get paid. This was negatively impacting families that had children that needed to see specialists. When I got back to DC, the Senator asked me how my trip was and I conveyed the Tricare problems. He was not happy. The next week we had the Admiral in charge of DHA in our office and the CEO of Healthnet, the Tricare provider in the region. He let both of them know it was unacceptable what was happening. They both promised to fix it and they did. Within a month, the Vice WG/CC called back and told us things were much better and the providers were paid immediately. Of course you would never hear about this. But this is the type of stuff we worked on day in and day out. I also worked on increasing the number of O-5 control grades for the ANG, and it passed into law in the 2019 NDAA. This opened up more billets for O-4s to get promoted to O-5. Again, you never hear about this but it has a real impact for military families. You see a lot more of the grandstanding and BS in the House. Many of the bills over there are simply PR stunts that would never pass. We did none of that. Other than deploying and dropping bombs, my year on the Hill was the best year I've had in the AF. There is so much ability to make an impact there compared to what you can do in the Pentagon. I'm not saying Congress as a whole is great and I'm not defending their ability to get anything done. But in my little corner of the Senate, we worked extremely hard with a small staff and made a huge impact.

I was an AF Legislative Fellow in the Senate and saw the process up close. Our office received a list of military promotion nominees ahead of time. If there was somebody on the list that we didn't think should be promoted, we could call the SASC and they would remove that name from the list. This allowed the main list to move forward for unanimous consent vote, without that person on it. Obviously this would be rare, but it did happen to one O-6 when I was there. Only the very top nominees would have any attention paid to them. The highest level nominees (4 stars, JCS members, Asst Secretaries, etc...) would make their rounds to our office to meet with the Senator and others on the SASC to "kiss the ring." Below them nobody really gets reviewed, unless there was a specific person on the list that was highlighted negatively. And I agree with Stoker. My Senator worked everyday from about 0600-2300 and also brought a giant book of "homework" with him every night, memo's to review and approve. He frequently had 30 appointments a day. Unlike the extreme bloat in the DoD, our office was small with very few staff. There is no time or manpower to review nominees one by one, except the people at the very top of the DoD.

I have never heard of a release to active duty. I've been on active duty, in the ANG, and now an IMA in the AFRC. I think the only way to go back to active duty is under a VLPAD situation or by fulfilling MPA days, but both of those are short term AD options. I recommend you stick with your AFRC job and NOT go active duty.

When you switch AF components and move immediately into a non-flying job, you lose flight pay. This happened to me in 2021. When I left AD in 2014, I transitioned to the ANG into an AOC job which is a rated billet, and I continued to receive flight pay. I then moved onto the staff at the Pentagon and continued to receive flight pay for years. In 2021, I transitioned into AFRC as an IMA in the same exact job on the Pentagon staff and they turned off my flight pay even though I had met my gate months and my flight physical was still good. AFMAN 11-402, section 6.3.3.8 6.3.3.8. Change to read: Returning to RegAF or ARC in a Non-rated Officer or Non-Career Enlisted Aviator Capacity. This provision applies to members returning from separation status and members transferring from the ARC to RegAF or vice versa. The servicing Host Aviation Resource Management will publish an aeronautical order to assign aviation service code “00” (Disqualified--Administrative Reasons) effective the day the member is assigned to active duty in the non-rated officer or non-career enlisted aviator enlisted aircrew member capacity. (T-2) A revalidation or requalification aeronautical order is not required and flight pay is not authorized. (T-1)

Huge props to Jon and Trident on my VA refinance! Got 3.375 on a jumbo VA with a $1500 lender credit. We bought the house in December of 2018 and I got 4.625, when the market was near its peak. Jon reached out to me a few months before I was eligible to refinance to let me know I was on his radar and we worked a game plan to pull the trigger as soon as I met the VA time requirements. The whole process was simple and cost me nothing but a couple emails and an hour at the title company. I also got to skip a payment and I should also get a refund of my escrow. Our monthly payment went down from $3260 to $2890, obviously a huge win! I have used the guys at NBOKC for two previous loans and refinances and they have done a great job in the past. However, for this house, I have used Jon for the initial loan and the refinance and NBOKC couldn't touch their rates. When I reached out to NBOKC for the refinance initially, they offered 3.75 with zero points, or at 3.5 they wanted me to pay half a point. When I told them that Jon was offering 3.375 with a credit they simply said "nice!" Overall I have had two positive experiences with Jon, and I will continue to use him in the future. I'm also a licensed real estate agent in Virginia, Maryland, and DC, and based on the results/rates Jon has delivered, I will continue sending any client I have to Jon.

257th is my unit in Missouri. Let me know if you want me to put you in touch with somebody in the unit. The 257th is part of the 157th AOG, which supports PACAF. 157th supports a bunch of exercises at Hickam and other choice locales in the Pacific. A couple years ago I went to Hickam for three weeks followed by two weeks in Australia.

No you cannot remove the ADSC, they will make you serve it out. I transferred to my daughter and then a month later changed my mind. I revoked the transfer and tried to get the ADSC removed and the AF refused. I took this all the way to the AFBCMR, it took about 18 months for their decision and I lost the case. I argued that this commitment is the only one where the AF has spent no money or resources and the implication on the application that the ADSC can be removed with revocation of benefit. When you apply for the transfer there used to be some language in the application that said something like "Revoking this transfer does not AUTOMATICALLY remove the ADSC." This language implies that there is a way to remove the commitment, but it just doesn't happen automatically. In the end, I served the entire 4 year commitment. I would not count on being allowed to retire before the commitment is up.

The B-1 used to have a spare parachute that (theoretically) would allow you jump out of the crew entry hatch, in situations just like this. But they removed that parachute during sequestration because they said it was too expensive to maintain.

I'm an ANG guy (on ADOS orders) and mine is still messed up too. I have been getting random LES's for $175, the 2 week difference between my old rate at $650 and new rate at $1000. They have given me a few of these checks, but skipped over the period of Oct 1-15 and the old rate still shows up on my standard LES. Finance will not be able to fix it for you. If you look back a few pages, my finance put a ticket in for me and they were told by DFAS that the issue is being worked service-wide and to close the ticket. Finance doesn't have the ability/authority to pay you what you are owed in this situation.

I got a separate LES for the additional flight pay increase for a two week period a few days ago. The weird thing is that it was for Oct 16-31. Still haven't been paid for the beginning of the month and the old rate was still in my Dec check. I am on AD school orders.

No pay bump here either. My finance office (which is great) filed a ticket with DFAS which was in the system for about 3 weeks before DFAS closed the ticket and said "it is a known problem and we will fix the issue in one big batch." My finance office apparently does not have the authority to fix it. Unbelievable.

I'm also an ANG guy with no increase. Sent an email to my unit finance and they put in a ticket with DFAS.

I emailed our POC at ANG and she said it would be released tomorrow.

Wilson has three grown children with her husband, Jay Hone, who is a retired Air Force colonel. Trump has not yet announced his pick for Navy secretary. His choice to head the Army, Vincent Viola, has not yet been confirmed.

There are a lot of orders they are looking to fill up here. I work on the Joint Staff for the NGB, and I'm leaving in July and they will be looking to replace me here. Let me know if you are interested. You can do orders anywhere from 6 months to 3 years (1095 rule). It is great being a free-agent!

I can no longer sit on the sidelines, watching the out of control spending, the rampant corruption, the constant threat of military benefit cuts, and the do-nothing career politicians who care more about keeping their jobs than they do about service to this nation. I'm fed up with it and I'm confident my background will provide a good foundation to stand up to the problems in D.C. This campaign is going to be brutal. I'm going to run for the Republican nomination against a 30 year incumbent, Joe Barton. The odds are severely stacked against me. However, I'm confident I can win. We have an excellent strategy in place and a clear path to victory. If I didn't think I could win, I wouldn't waste my time. I'm in the 157th AOG at St. Louis. Great unit and they seem to always be looking for fighter/bomber guys. We are in Pacaf and are the backfill for Hickam AOC. Lots of exercises in the Pacific. The AF needs to open up more ANG units to fill these caps and make it easier for guys to transition into these roles. I think this is the perfect job for a part-time traditional guardsman. I separated at 10+ years and have a lot of experience working a pod and dropping bombs in combat in the B-1 and I would love to do this in the Guard. I was interested in a position at Ellington Field but you had to be a fully-qualified pilot or current RPA guy. I was willing to go through the 18X training but that wasn't an option. The AF is losing a lot of valuable experience when guys separate that they could keep on board in the ANG.
