FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)

I wouldn't call it batch 1 complete. I think they are just working on them one by one. A WSO in my squadron, that applied one day after me, was approved last week and I still haven't heard anything. This makes me think that they have just assigned the cases to specific people that are working at different speeds. Neither of us have an ADSC, so there is really no other reason he would get notified before me. -
12 FTW/CV loses job over 'inappropriate' emails

You are right. I went back and reread the article. When I initially read it I thought it said he did have a relationship with a subordinate's spouse. Poor reading comprehension on my part. It could have been many other things. I deleted my original post so someone doesn't read it quickly and think that is what happened. -

Thanks stract! This is great to know. I thought the system wouldn't let you put in a DOS <180 days. I am accepted to a Masters program that starts at the end of July and was trying to figure out if it was even possible to attend. I know you can get out 30 days early for school but even with that it was going to be close. -

Mine has been saying "Referred to BPO" since Feb 12. This is just unbelievable. I plan to separate whether they approve my VSP or not but have to wait til they disapprove in order to fill out regular separation paperwork. This means I can't leave until 180 days from the day they disapprove. I have multiple other opportunities that I need to decide on and can't make any decisions until they get this done. I am trying to be patient but this is way beyond frustrating. I really don't understand why they can't process the people that don't need any special ADSC waivers now instead of making everybody wait. Does anybody know any loopholes to separate in less than 180 days? I think if I do Palace Front I can get out in 120, is this true? -

This was just posted 15 minutes ago on Air Force Facebook page: The Air Force has resumed all force management programs Mar. 15 following a recent strategic pause which allowed senior leadership a chance to evaluate the programs and assess their progress. The current Temporary Early Retirement Authority application window remains open until Mar. 26, and the Voluntary Separation Pay application window is open until May 1. https://1.usa.gov/1ebGc4R -

I just logged into MyPers from home and there are no changes or additional PSDM's. -
I was taking a guess and can't confirm since I haven't seen him in years, but I wouldn't be surprised.
-
I have been in the B-1 for seven years and have never heard anyone talk about "the merge" or act like that. He didn't pick up his bad attitude or his choice of words from our community.
-
What a total asshole. If an ADO, who is a Major, sent this out in our squadron he would be hated from that point forward and would get every single bad deal that could be given.

I started right after Thanksgiving and finished all 8 self-paced courses by Christmas. I have done the applied classes all back-to-back and will finish the last one on March 23. So it will be a little less than 4 months. Like others have said, I don't think it is possible to do it in less time because of the delays between applied classes. The key is that when you finish a self-paced class, and your next class is applied, go in and sign up for the applied class then wait a day or so til the registration goes through and then immediately start your next self-paced class.

WTF do they mean this is not first-come first-served? If the B-1 community is overmanned by 2 WSO's from the the 2004 year group and they both apply on the first day and I wait a month, I'll be screwed. Do they think we are that stupid??? Of course all of us are going to apply as soon as the window opens up. It is too important of a decision to wait. -
One of my previous WG/CC's used to tell us to take the "long view" of our service. "When you are older you will be able to look back and be proud of what you have accomplished. Don't just focus on the tough situations that are right in front of you. You will deal with some serious challenges but you can look back and know that you did something that matterered and that 99% of the US will never get a chance to do." I still remember this when I am sick of the BS and want to get out.

For the 2004 year group guys on the promotion list: I sent an email directly to AFPC/DPSOR, the separations department, and asked if I was eligible for the VSP even though I was on a promotion list and ineligible to be RIFed. A lady emailed me back today with something like this "We are unable to verify your eligibility for any program via email. However, just because you are ineligible for the RIF does not mean you are ineligible for the VSP. Please look at the voluntary separation matrix and if it shows an overage you are eligible." So I think the answer is we are good to put in an application. -
I can vouch for ACP. I signed up with them. They assign you a mentor in the private sector in the field that you are interested in transitioning to. These mentors are sometimes former military but oftentimes it is just guys that want to support the military. I was interested in Private Banking and Wealth Management and they assigned me a very successful financial advisor at UBS. This guy was in the Top 100 advisors in the country, making over $2 mil/year. We talked often and he went out of his way to help me with the transition. He knew I wanted to move to Dallas and he called the UBS Director and got me an interview without me even asking him to help. I went to a couple of interviews and ended up getting the offer, even though I eventually turned it down. The guys in Dallas weren't even hiring but just through this program I was able to secure a job.

I'm getting my MBA from UT-Austin on the weekends while still on active duty stationed at Dyess. I'm finishing up this summer. My plan was to separate from the AF and take a path similar to what you are looking at. I did on campus recruiting and got interviews at almost every company I applied to. I even turned down a bunch of investment banking interviews because my wife refuses to live in Houston. I interviewed at Bain, Deloitte, Accenture, Ernst & Young, KPMG, American Airlines, AT&T, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and a few others. All of these interviews came about through OCR at UT, except JP Morgan and GS which I got from networking. If you don't have a recruiting program to go through like I did at UT, you have to network like crazy. I spent literally 12 hours on the phone with 5 different guys at JP Morgan before I got an interview. The guys I talked to all told me that is the only way to get a job there and that if you just sent in your resume without knowing anybody they would just throw it away. Everything is all about networking. I have a profile on LinkedIn and I would no shit just search for guys that were prior military officers that worked at companies I was interested in and send them a message that I was interested in their company and wanted to learn more. Every single one of them answered me back and spent time on the phone with me giving me insight on how to get a job there. If you aren't doing this stuff you won't get hired because other people like me are doing it. I talked to the guys at Cameron Brooks also but the salary was much lower ($85-$95K) than what I could get coming out of UT ($105-$150k) and they wanted you to commit to moving anywhere in the US, which I was unwilling to do. Honestly, the more I interviewed and talked to guys in my MBA program, the more I liked my job in the AF. Maybe it was because everybody I interviewed with would say stuff like "Damn, you have the coolest job in the world, getting to drop bombs and do cool stuff. WTH would you want to spend all day doing powerpoint?" I started to ask myself if the things I don't like about the AF are that big of a deal and I concluded they are not. It gave me a good perspective and made me appreciate the Bros I work with and the cool stuff we get to do. I learned to ignore the BS we all hate and can't change. After all of this, I decided that I wasn't really a good fit for getting a "real job" and pulled my separation paperwork back. If I do get out later I will probably open my own company because I can't really see myself in the corporate world. Another piece of advice. Almost every company questioned my "business skills" and if I could do the modeling and other parts of the job since I have spent ten years in the AF. I finally starting asking guys what I could do to improve my resume. At least 2 guys told me that if I could get Microsoft Excel Expert certified this would ease their fears that I wouldn't be able to handle pivot tables and other financial modeling. I also completed the Wall Street Prep online financial modeling certification and got a lot of positive comments about that.

If you write a letter to the RIF board you will still get paid. A pilot I know did it during the last RIF. -

I called AFPC Separations Office today to try and get an answer. I mentioned that it wasn't answered in 13-130 and she said that she was not allowed to talk about that PSDM since it hadn't been officially released and that CC's should have never released it. She said it should be official any day now and then she would be able to answer questions about it. She also said "Just apply and see what happens" to which I told her was ridiculous and that they should be able to answer who was eligbile for what. -

I'm a 2004 guy, on the promotion list and trying to figure out if we are eligible for VSP. Looking at PSDM 13-130, it looks like only people that are meeting the RIF board are eligible for the VSP but when you look at the matrix it shows that my year group and AFSC are blue and eligible for vountary programs. What do you guys think? -
Wait, your RAP is really 8 sorties per month? Ours is 2.
-
I talked to a civilian in the AFPC promotions office a few months ago and she said the increment list would come out in November. She also told me the list was going to go from Jan 2014 til summer 2015.

I have been in multiple flight squadrons with plenty of females and I have NEVER seen anything like what you are referring to. All the females were treated with respect and I have never seen any of the targeting, rumors, or sexualization you are speaking of. It sounds like the squadron your wife is in has a problem. The rest of the flying community is not like this so please don't generalize this as a "flying squadron" problem.

Hawker, PM sent. The answer is it depends. We look at all the reasons you have listed on your "Welcome to the FTU" form and decide from there who goes where. For example, if there is only 1 Dyess pilot spot for your class and another dude in your class says his ex-wife and kids live in Abilene and he wants to stay here, he will get to stay and you will have to go to Ellsworth. It is a very fair process and whoever has the best reasons gets to go where they want. If there is no good reason and two guys want the same thing, it would likely be based on date of rank.
