  1. I see it more as a slippery slope. Sure it involves images that have already been collected and downgraded to protect the sat's capes, but how much time and effort was involved in ensuring that now classifies info was passed out. Also, I have to ask why if the scientist already had a Secret clearance, why were the images downgraded? Can't these scientists also get the required info from commercially availabe sources, like GeoEye, or from one of the civil government bird? NOAA has a polar orbiting satellite already. Sending a NRO bird to track individual ice floes seems a bit of overkill and not exactly the best use a expensive gov't resource. Again, that would be more appropriate for NOAA. Thanks to Anglia, I think the Green Movements motives have become a little suspect and hate to see anymore of my tax dollars wasted.
  2. https://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/05/science/earth/05satellite.html?partner=rss&emc=rss Maybe the CIA should have been paying attention to potential terrorism descriminators instead of using overhead resources to guage Polar ice cap health. Whatever your feelings are about global warming, yo have to admit that environmental monitoring isn't a part of the CIA's mission.
  3. I gotta wonder what reg your reading. According to the AFI 36-29-Eat-a-d!ck,"3.2.1.3. The FDU may be worn off base under the same guidelines as the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU)." Ok, so what ar the BDU or ABU off base guideline? Lets look that up, shall we? I underlined the appropriate statement that clearly allows for the wear of BDU'd and hence a flight suit to a mall. Local guidance my be different but don't confuse us with the Navy.
  4. Warning: Stream of consciousness rambling ahead! It seemed to gloss over the meat of the RB issue. Capt4Fans, I assume, gave an anonymous interview, but it was only but it was only 1 paragraph long and one other person was little closer to the truth about the insubordination over improper wear. My favorite part was a quote from Elmendorf AFB's website: "More than once, you have probably been driving through a parking lot early in the morning and almost ran over a pedestrian not wearing their reflective belt. If you see someone not wearing their reflective belt during the prescribed times, please give them a friendly reminder to put their belt on. You may have just prevented the next ground mishap at Elmendorf." Obviously this statement is full of paradoxes. How can you see someone if they aren't wearing a reflective belt and if you only "almost hit" someone not wearing it, doesn't that prove they aren't needed? Some people in the article have also sold their soul to the devil that is the reflective belt. One TSgt is quoted saying, "If people didn't wear them more lives would be lost" and this gem "Stop crying about wearing something that can save your life." So using the same logic, the AF should stop flying airplanes immediately since people die when planes crash. Stop crying and let someone else do your thinking for you. If you can't be trusted to not make the right decision and not get on an airplane that may crash, you can't be trusted with anything. I would like to ask the good TSgt exactly how many more people would die with out wearing a reflective belt and how many have they saved? This is where the AF Times could have really done a good article and shown some research into the subject or any research the AF itself has done on the matter. I wonder if this is like Climategate? Let's call it Reflectivegate or Beltgate. Anybody with safety stink on 'em to talk about a study of reflective belt effectiveness? Ramble off
  5. Anyway to get one of these without going through PayPal? I hate that site almost as much as RBs.
  6. Here's the messgae for those who didn't see and had to hear about it second hand. I highlighted the section about being tucked in and also the portion about the reflective belt being optional with reflective material being on the PT. Maybe it should be forwarded to the Deid?UNCLASSIFIED.doc
  7. Disclaimer: I've been drinking after a later night EP sim...correct spelin' & ritin' is opshunal Just my $.02 It brings up an interesting question about HUDs. How often are they done in an plane with one? Without a HUD, a monitored approach for a CatII ILS make a certain amount of sence, since you're only roughly 100AGL at your DH. But with a HUD, the PF can monitor the CDI and G/S and have his eyes outside for the landing environment (at least in a C-17 and I assume a J-model 130). The only monitored approach I've seen in 17's was on a PAR where the CO was inside running the AP, heroicaly keeping up with the controllers directions(I'm pretty sure ATC controllers in theater are FAA rejects), and the AC taking the controls at 250A when the runway became visible out of the duststorm. I agree, with the caveat of having a HUD, that the PF on an approach will be better suited to landing out of one, especially if its a Co. Airlines, and I'm speaking from inexperience here, may push the monitored approach technique to cut down on missed approaches, which would cost time and money. Thoughts?
  8. If only there was someway to make the letters out of reflective material. Deid Shoeclerk "You're going to have to take off the unauthorized morale patch!" Me "Why, it's apart of my 360 of reflectivity."
  9. Joined, although it doesn't have the same level of anonymity that Baseops provides. Who'm I kidding, this thing ain't really that anonymous. Maybe it'll be good to get all of this in the open away from the C-of-C so people can see what the troops really fell about it.
  10. Its not freedom OF religion, its freedom FROM religion since most of the colonists were escaping persecution from the Church of England. Having this policy of special rules for Muslims sets a standard of Islam being the de-facto state sponsored religion. When I can only grant leave to so many dudes during Christmas, that means some will have to move a mission over their religious holiday. Here, every Muslim, whether he's observant or not, means that everyone else has been relegated to 2nd class status. Elevating one religion over another goes against the very freedom and equality that so many dudes fought and died for. Sukkot - the Jewish Festival of Booths - is Oct 3 - 11th this year. This holiday is to remember the 40yrs in the wilderness the Jews spent getting to the promised land. The holiday is celebrated by spending the entire week in a temporary shelter, basically camping. Can I expect to see a policy letter letting Jewish personnel get extra breaks because the don't have prper crew rest of shower facilities? I'd be surprised to see one. Sounds like a double standard to me and worthy of an MEO investigation. BTW, can we move this to its own thread. This is taking away from all the other shenanigans at the 'Deid.
  11. Will the BRA be considered "in direct view"? If not the DEL needs to expand. And why do I have to be held to the Muslim standard when I'm not that religion? Sure off base trips can be advised of Ramadan and what would be the "culturally sensitive" thing to do, but on base!? Seriously, WFTO? This is 'Merica, Goddammit! This is making my Agent Orange act up. I need a drink and a cigar. Someone pass me the nudie mag while your at it. Please everyone fight this. Leadership please realize this is dumb, dumb, dumb.
  12. Speaking of Kiowapilots.com, I just tried to register and was told that registration is disabled by administrators. Anybody know why and when/if it will be reopened? To appease the masses...
  13. Half-way down page one...I'm starting to question our devotion to look at hot chicks.
  14. Just saw this in the Dover AFB paper, The Airlifter. It looks like Capriotti's support the troops, unfortunately, its Godless-Commie Russian troops. The Plane pictured in their ad is a Tu-160 BLACKJACK bomber. While admittedly similar in appearance to the Bone, it took all of .69 sec to look it up on Google. Next time, you might want to do a little research... Capriotti's website is https://www.capriottis.com. Commie_Ad.pdf
  15. Well I think I just figured out where the military budget cuts are coming from. Fox news has announced that Pres Obama has sent a letter to Russia offering to stop the missle shield if, and it's a pretty big if, Russia will stop helping Iran with thier nuclear programs. Its seems like he his offering the up the whole farm right from the start. I feel like its stepping into the ring with Mike Tyson and just standing there letting him pummel you. I think Jimmy Carter will end up looking like a Hawk compared to the current administration. On a side note: Is it just me but does it feel like the terrorists are more active with since November 08? Or am I just wholly buying into the "fear-mongering" broadcast by Fox against the jihadists?
  16. 2. Less about missiles, more about fantasy-art boobies!
  17. Just so no one thinks my drunkin' posting doesn't have merit...
  18. We are losing focus here people: reflective belts and socks! That's what we need to complain about more. Oh, and the occasional jab at PT gear. GO
  19. BLUF: Its always greener on the other side.... When I was Guard, I couldn't wait to come on AD. Now that I'm AD, I can't wait to retire from it and go Guard just to have something to do (I've seen it happen pre-9/11). If you want to come back on AD realize what you are getting into. I've talked to O-3s who got out in the early '90's (FULL DISCLOSURE: they were NAV/EWO's who were RIF'd) who were told by their SQ/CC they were "passed over" for promotion to O-4. It didn't matter that they had been out of service for 6+ yrs when the AF asked if they wanted to come back, they were behind the power curve. They were basically phucked from the get-go and retired as O-3s. Not a big incentive to come on AD. Come back for the right reasons. If you want to serve your country and get a bonus for doing so, then do it and don't complain. Take the money and run with it! If you want to serve your country for "Mom and apple pie", then do it and don't complain. Either way, do it for what you think is right. BTW: I'm drunk posting this because its my up-teenth deployment spread over 12yrs in uniform plus personal reasons. If JACKASS or anyone else wants to nit-pick my my grammer, so be it. BTW: 123abc I love your graphic...
  20. That sux! On the upside, the blues policy will go away quickly the first Phase/EP sim and you're suckin' O2 with your full compliment of ribbons and large wings. Bring a camera and give 'em a big I'd put that on my desktop at work...
  21. Please to enjoy...
  22. In response to my AP comment: My desire was to have the story written/validated by a nationally recognized org in the main-stream media. No matter how accurate the report may be from militarycorruption.com, its target audience has already convicted her (myself included), and it revelations will always be suspect. The report needs to be peer reviewed to give wide acceptance. You could substitute Fox/CNN/MSNBC/NYT, etc for AP. It would have the same result. Also, it would be nice to see the media to sack-up and report on something in which the perpetrator isn't a dude. I would never want the AF embarrassed just for sh!ts and giggles. The truth is out there and I want there to be no question about it.
  23. So much for the "I was kidnapped" excuse! Hopefully it will get picked up by the AP and splashed all over the front page in 256 eye catching colors...
