1. No offense, but 'exercised the authority the Senate had the entire time' is probably a more accurate description. What legally changed for Chuck Schumer between last week and today? Tuberville's hold was never a insurmountable obstacle. Remember that politically, both parties use your military service as pawns of whatever it is its after.
2. I agree with both @Danger41 and @tac airlifter, but a few years ago I started to ask myself 'what's the right number?' on AMs or AAMs? I don't have a personal threshold, because some career paths, still hacking the mission, don't take you through multiple combat deployments. The examples listed above, white jet / FTU tours, etc. It's needs to be a balance...and while fuzzy, I know it when I see it skewed in one direction. A flying Wing King in the modern Era with low single digits on AMs...yeah, that's a little 'Sus as the cool kids say Sent from my SM-N976V using Baseops Network mobile app
3. I'm old enough to remember a scene in M*A*S*H, where COL Potter stated that other "Colonels are chasing that star that they'll do almost anything"...or something similar. Its a little disheartening that a line from a 70s TV show is the reality 50 years later. But I keep that in mind when I see the Council of Colonels in group-think mode. Most GOs, that I've worked with at least, enjoy the conflicting view point...presented in a unemotional & professional manner. Shoe Clerk Chief of Staffs in particular seem to get bent out of shape when that happens. Or I could just be the asshole who somehow keeps surviving. 5. First off, I appreciate the use of 'fucktard'...classic insult that has layers, yet instantly understood across a broad demographic. It saw heavy rotation in teenage GKinnear's day. Second, I agree with your post, as most of us did 10 years ago when @General Chang first appeared in these hallowed halls (fuck I'm old). Chang was a more subtle character then, and played the part too well. They say an old dog can't learn new tricks, but in time, after repeated textual onslaughts from the entire BO community against his blue kool-aid induced corporatist wet dream, Chang changed his tactics and is less outright in his 'you're replaceable' mantra. He has occasional flashes of his previous delusions of grandeur, but overall he's a literal ill-conceived joke...and he knows it. @Biff_T you're capable of determining your own COAs...but there are better targets out there. @BashiChuni +1 internet point to you...Chang will continue to receive my full-send of downvotes.
6. RUMINT is command-wide quarterly open ranks inspections in AFSOC...just thing to cure the end-strength blues. Sent from my SM-N976V using Baseops Network mobile app
7. I'm not sure if you're serious, or continuing the long con from @BashiChuni. If Chang were a real account, sure.... For the record, hats off to @BashiChuni liking his own posts...its like public masturbation and getting away with it. Sent from my SM-N976V using Baseops Network mobile app
8. @BashiChuni's sock-puppet is top-tier! With all due respect...even knowing how the magic works, I'll still down-vote Chang every chance I get.
9. I know this is a military forum, dealing with military issues...but the JROTC decline is not an isolated event. Any youth development organization that's been around for ~100 years or so is also facing a decline in membership. Scouting, faith-based youth groups, HS arts programs, etc. From my perspective, Club and HS sports seem to be main remaining avenues to mentor and grow kids into Adults that are contributing members to society...and their focus isn't necessarily on Civics, Service to Others, Mom and Apple pie type issues. Change is inevitable, and in this case, I don't think the societal 'need' that JROTC filled has had a suitable replacement designed, let alone delivered.
10. Editing room of Military Times one Friday afternoon: Editor - What have we got to publish? Perky Young Journalist 1- Well Boss, we could publish a story on the lack of PCS and Bonus money. Crusty Journalist 2 - I've got a story ready for the reserve call up to Europe for Ukraine support. Editor - Both of y'all get the fuck outta here with that nonsense...I want 10% more adds from Juul and Monster, and run this story about Civil War masturbation as filler. We got keep that click count up! Any military times pub is only good for house breaking to dogs...and since the switch in paper quality, it's not even good at that.
11. Dude, stop. I only get so many down votes a day...
12. But seriously...Happy Independence Day! Go drink beer, enjoy a BBQ, and light off some fireworks...'Merica!
13. @clearedhot @brabus Necessary evil indeed. Aside from the expertise angle, the Data Engineers, O-5 retired-now-GS, or worse contractors don't have any skin in the game. It's easier to make a "bad" decision when you don't have to answer the mail later on, or look the bros in the eyes. At least the 12x communities have that going for them. @dogs-n-guns While I've routinely gotten a JA or IG opinion before moving out, I've also relied on my own decision making after getting their risk assessment. "Legally sufficient" doesn't always equal the right thing for the Airman, Squadron, or the Force...that's why Commanders get paid to do the job. But to your point, some individuals may choose to stop at that point. YMMV Sent from my SM-N976V using Baseops Network mobile app
14. This image applies to so many situations in the USAF...
15. Looks like Wilsbach is officially out of the CSAF running...I also have a terrible track record betting on sports.
16. If we don't know where we're going, we can get there faster...it's all by design.
17. Stop feeding the troll. Go back and look up Chang's post history...there's a reason my principle is to downvote every post from that account. To your main point, sounds like a perfect shit-storm...can't recruit, can't retain.
18. I thought it was @BashiChuni sock puppet account
19. The suspense is really building on your history with Fingers
20. Again, great points that I agree with from both academic and personal experience. I'd offer though that the PACAF/CC is at least familiar with the airspace/basing/overflight issues in the region that will certainly affect the logistics air bridge. ACE is a logistics fight, so that may be the decider. So IMO, there's the calculus; regional Ops (pro) / regional Logistics (mid) vs. global Logistics (pro) / potential "1st Female Service Chief" (pro). Personally, the I sim'd/flew every Monday during the last non-bomber/fighter CSAF tenure so I wouldn't have to wear blues. Lt GKinnear is hoping history doesn't repeat itself.
21. I've never been west of Travis, or east of Manas (R.I.P.)...so your insight is enlightening, thank you. I don't necessarily disagree with the posts regarding the other candidates. I was making an assumption that the 4-star with the recency of experience would be the best pick. The Ops vs. Logistics experience is an interesting argument.
22. FLEA I havent seen that he retiring, so I'm putting my money on Wilsbach...I think he knows a thing or three about logistics in the Pacific. Sent from my SM-N976V using Baseops Network mobile app
