  1. Be the best C-17 dude you can, as has been stated. Hopefully you’re at TCM or CHS and can get airdrop qual’d...that would likely make you more marketable to AFSOC depending on what type of airframe you’re trying to get into. I’ve also known a few guys who were picked up for green door, so that’s maybe an option for you down the road as well.
  2. Holy thread revival. Can anyone currently in the community please send me a PM? Have some questions. Thanks!
  3. Agree with the others...turn this into one of those “I learned from this experience...” stories at your airline interview. As a side note, I bet this CC is a MAF dude originally. Prove me wrong.
  4. That checks. Any idea idea if I could separate from AD and return from overseas after my DEROS/ADSC expire and NOT incur any type of commitment for the move back? I think you can, since you’d be separating and they owe you that last move, correct?
  5. I have about 2 years 9 months on my ADSC left. Let’s say I take an overseas assignment w/a RNLTD next summer...I’m assuming I’d have to stay in past my ADSC to satisfy the DEROS before I could separate? Next question, could I then just separate (whether it’s at my ADSC or DEROS, however that works out) and move back to the CONUS without incurring any further type of commitment? Bottom line: it would be fun to take an assignment to somewhere like Hawaii, but not sure if it’s worth the pain/hassle or not if it would not allow me to separate sooner...
  6. ^This. I spent 4 years in the C-17 and I only ever flew one trip as a basic crew. Racked up nearly 500 hours of other time during that assignment. Sucked balls.
  7. C-17s, did the airdrop mission as well. Bear in mind my experience was AD at a superbase; the guard/AFRC is different and probably much better. Pros: see a lot of cool places, NVG LLs, assault landings, air refueling, airdrop was (mostly) fun, made good TDY money/tax frees Cons: local sorties sucked balls, the ever existing threat of a Q3 (especially in airdrop), lots of trips to the same (crappy/sandy) locations, long duty days were exhausting (although I’ve heard a rumor that they don’t fly as many augmented crew duty days since I’ve left, which would be nice) There’s a lot more I could get into on each of these subjects, but don’t have the time to type it all up right now.
  8. Is Delta still “discriminating” against hiring guard/reserve guys? Heard this was a thing a while back, then heard it got squashed under some kind of lawsuit (or threat of a lawsuit), now I’m hearing it’s still a thing (again)? Edit to add: all the folks I know within the last year who were hired by them were all folks who retired/DD214 in hand.
  9. Quite honestly, these companies’ products all suck (leather A-2 and the fabric/embroidered) compared to the product Mardon used to make...
  10. Agree with Joe, but my experience was the same at McChord circa 2013-2015. Fortunately I was a copilot upgrading to AC during that timeframe, so I didn’t hold a job “important enough” to be responsible for writing OPRs/bullets/etc. But I did sit at cruise a lot with ACs who were nerding out on OPRs and 1206s on their personal laptops. What a clown show. There were some things I enjoyed, but in general I hated the MAF, and I hope to never, ever return before I can punch.
  11. I’ve got about 3 years left on my commitment. Previous heavy jet IP and current UPT IP, around 1100 PIC and 2300TT. Looking at some potential guard/reserve options and making the jump to airlines. Am considering trying to crossflow to a new (crew) MWS as a potential 3rd assignment (or in the guard/reserves as a PC option). My question is, does it raise any sort of red flags with the majors if they see a dude with decent time in different aircraft, but not quite as much overall PIC time? (I assume I would upgrade to AC a little faster than a younger/less experienced guy, but I’d still only be logging SIC for a period of time). I know things will look different in 3 years than they do now at the airlines, but just curious what current airline guys think...
  12. Anyone here from the 345th? Just had some questions regarding lifestyle in conjunction with an airline job. If so, please DM me!
  13. A dude who currently flies for them who knows a guy that currently has his app in...lots of 38 time in addition to an assignment or two in a fighter. Thanks for the rest chiming in to dispel the hiring rumors w/regard to USERRA...I too have heard some airlines have been scoffing it for years, but that others also haven’t...just trying to get a current pulse as I get closer to punching!
  14. Been hearing some rumors about some airlines that have started to not look quite so favorably towards part-time guard/reserve bubbas in the hiring process. I know officially it’s against USERRA to do that, but can anyone confirm/deny this is starting to happen out there? Also heard rumors that Purple specifically may be “discounting” T-38C time and treating it more like they do T-6 time...even though it’s multi engine, >12.5k GW? Someone please tell me I’m wrong?
  15. I was about to say them same. Better go easy, they get triggered easily.
  16. Check sarcasm detector. It was a poke at his distaste for Obama in favor of Trump, at the retiree’s expense, per the article.
  17. He was the best OG/CC JBLM has ever seen. Tremendous. Never disappointed. Trust me, I guarantee it.
  18. Probably really should say “T-38 Beale” because that’s exactly what it is...with the caveat explained in the U-2 thread as someone has already mentioned.
  19. And how much you wanna bet his source was the MAF FB page? 😂
  20. But isn’t it the point that this program is designed to attract the not-so-shiny penny types? The AF already has a retention measure in place for their shiny pennies and their large egos...it’s called HPO status.
  21. Looking back to when I was a young copilot, I saw a lot of O-4/O-5 types who thought highly of themselves and championed the typical blue koolaid nonsense and poo-poo’d the guys that wanted out. Once they realized their AF careers had reached a dead end, they too were applying to all the majors. Hypocrites.
  22. Probably an actual B-2. That community wants young blood. When I was eligible to apply several years ago they came back and said my year group was “too old”. Haven’t ever heard of a T-38 with possible B-2 follow on in a UPT drop...
  23. Gross. If I am forced to return to the Mobility Administration Force, I aspire to be that dirtbag major that flicks boogers at the rampant queep like that in favor of hackin’ the mish.
  24. Solid. Were you at least able to come back from said 179 and still get some currency in the jet before departing?
