Goldfein advocating FAA 1500 hour rule change???
flyusaf83 replied to 189Herk's topic in General Discussion
Bear in mind everyone, this is the same Air Force that dogmatically preaches the core values to us. Then they try and manipulate government regulations in a deliberate attempt to screw over veterans' ability to land jobs after they serve for 10+ years. Integrity first though, right Big Blue? Also, isn't "take care of your people" like the first thing that all AF leadership courses teach? Or is Maslow's hierarchy of needs? This BS shows me my need to get the hell out before the AF invents new ways to screw people over. Where are the leaders? -

What do you guys think about the new retirement system? BRS seems like it's actually a pretty good deal. I'm in that window where you can decide to go with the legacy 50%/top 3 or the BRS 40%/top 3 + matching. I'm an 09' guy, so if I switch I will have missed on 8 years of matching, which sucks. However, it seems like it makes sense to switch if you're not decided on whether to say in for 20 or not. I like the idea of the military paying me retirement now and giving me control of where I put the money. If you are in that group that gets a choice, what are you planning on doing?- 1,196 replies

Hey Big Blue... integrity first right? Or does integrity not apply from the top down?

Goldfein advocating FAA 1500 hour rule change???
flyusaf83 replied to 189Herk's topic in General Discussion
The problem is the AF is focused on all of the wrong things in how they are approaching the pilot shortage. Changing the 1.5k hr rule won't move the needle in pilot retention. USAF pilots won't have any problem getting picked up by an airline over the next 15 years. The reason this pisses me off is that I don't see the AF doing a dang thing to address the reasons for the pilot crisis. I see more and more queep every single day. I see jets getting older and literally falling apart. I see dudes not seeing their wife and kids for a year to go sit behind a desk in some shithole to do a job an A1C could do. I see the AF thinking they can lure people to stay in by dangling awful jobs like DO or Sq/CC in their faces like it's the best thing ever, if they just take on more bullshit queep to have better OPRs. I don't see the AF talking about these problems, much less fixing them. Instead, they are talking about stop-loss, longer ADSCs, and this fresh bullshit. They are just finding more ways to screw pilots over. Until they change their approach, the exodus will continue. -

Still would have minimal effect on AF pilots IMO. It would be easier for civilians to get hired on by regionals, but legacy carriers are hiring at well above the 1,500 hour requirement anyway (closer to 2,000 - 2,500). Most military guys aren't flying for regionals after getting out, so they aren't directly competing with low-time civilians. You could argue that this will make it easier for civilians to build time at regionals since they'll be able to get hired at a regional faster. However, they will still need to be there for a long time to start logging PIC time. -
How does one pursue a PIT IP tour? I'm a former T-6 FAIP, and would love to get go teach at PIT. Is this something that dudes need to contact the 559th for and visit? Or just work through my AFPC functional?

Congressman, 1. Bush averaged around 4-5% a year increases in base pay, while Obama averaged around just 2%. Where do you see base pay going under Trump? 2. Does anyone in Congress, or DC for that matter, have a clue about what to about the USAF pilot shortage? Are they even aware of the crisis and how bad it is, or that it's going to get worse? What plans, if any, are you seeing to address it?

Losing the WH is just the tip of the iceberg for the Democratic Party. In 2009, Dems controlled the WH, the Senate, the House, 27 state legislatures, and 28 governorships. Since then, they have lost the WH, the Senate, the House, and now control only 12 state legislatures and 13 governorships. The Democratic message of the today doesn't resonate anywhere in America, outside of major cities and college campuses. They have been lost in their world. They have focused on things like transgender bathrooms, race-baiting, cop-hating, and fretting over ocean levels. Meanwhile, back in the real world, folks are trying to figure out how to get by with lower wages, higher food costs, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and a government that doesn't notice or care about them. The only time they hear from a Democratic politician, they are told they are racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted deplorables. Dems have only themselves to blame for their electoral decimation. Obama came into office with more political capital and goodwill than any POTUS in modern history. He and the Dems chose to spend it on an unpopular and failing healthcare plan, enflaming racial tensions and divide, and of course transgender bathrooms. The funny thing is they have no clue how out of touch they are.

Money certainly isn't the primary factor, but it is important. For a lot of dudes, the pay cut you take for your first couple years in the airlines is something to consider when you have a family to worry about. If the AF can make staying a financially better long-term option as well, then it makes that decision easier (or harder depending on how you are leaning). The biggest variable is QoL, however. If the AF were to couple an increased bonus with civilian/enlisted queep-specialists (personnel/finance/scheduling/etc) assigned to flight rooms, no more BS 365s, no need to go in-res IDE, and the ability to easily make O-5 without flying less... I might stay put. But yeah, none of that is happening.
-
So hopefully they have the forethought to up the bonus for both MAF and CAF types. If they up just the bonus for CAF only... oh just watch the mass exodus ensue.

You can tell how racist all these liberals are... all of them promising to move to Canada. Not one of them promising to move to Mexico. What privilege they have to lie about moving to a country that is 90% white while being closer to another country full of Hispanics. They are dog-whistling racist messages, or something. i think I need to go back to college diversity class or maybe watch some more AFN commercials to regain my grasp on this racism and privilege talk. I'm rusty.

8 years of being called a racist because I wasn't a fan of all of Obama's policies. 8 years of being called an Islamophobe. 8 years of the POTUS lecturing me on how to be a good Christian. 8 years of being called a homophobe. The last 2 years of being called misogynistic because I didn't like Hillary. Being called "privileged" because I have a good job and can support my family without anyone knowing how hard I've had to work to get where I am. i didn't vote for Trump or Hillary, but I'm a satisfied man today.

Oklahomans, our state will be in good hands. Adam Pugh, a former ABM, is running for State Senate based on his illustrious career as an ABM. He's so awesome that he still refers to himself as "Captain" years after his gallant service. Check out his pics on his website. He is so proud of his fake (ABM) wings, that he still wears them on his suit jacket. Also... he must have stolen someone's helmet for that glamour shot. Or maybe he kept his when he washed out of UPT. https://www.pughforsenate.com

I scheduled 2 months out. They are getting a lot of dudes scheduled because of the change, probably like most places. I would schedule sooner rather than later.

Just finished my ATP at Tulsa Community College. It was a really easy experience. I did one prep flight on Thursday and the eval today (Saturday). Total of 4.4 hours in the Seminole between the 2 flights. Total cost was just under $2k. Some other guys who have gone there have done one or two more prep flights just to feel more ready. They are really flexible. They give tons of gouge for the program when you get scheduled. If you show up knowing all the GK, you should be ready with one or two prep flights. Highly recommend TCC.

I just did my ATP written exam at AIS a couple weeks ago. It was free and easy. They also do the comp test for free. Not sure about the CFI.
-
I just finished my ATP written, and I'm trying to figure out where to do the practical. Getting a 737 type rating sounds great to me, but I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble and the cost. So what is the worth of a 737 type rating? Does it mean much to the airlines? If it's no big deal, I'll probably just go as cheap and easy as possible. Thanks.

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP

We all know Obama's belief that eventually, you make enough money and the government is then somehow entitled to it. Now he believes you can save/invest enough money, and he wants to take it. https://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324050304578412932073225110.html From the article - "The White House explanation is that some people have accumulated "substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving." Wow what a tool. I'm so glad the government is going to dictate what is "reasonable" for me to save in their grand wisdom. Because we all know the government is so reasonable themselves when it comes to saving and spending, who better to trust? The truth is people being self-sufficient is dangerous for Obama and those who think like him. They need to be needed to stay in power. So I guess I'll stop investing so much, I would hate to be unreasonable.- 1,196 replies

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
flyusaf83 replied to Swizzle's topic in Squadron Bar
Part the answer goes to being realistic about money and behavior. Using your example, saving $500 month in a reserve, most folks would be likely to spend it. It's human nature, you see something you want, you have the money, you rationalize it, you buy it. If you put that $500 into the mortgage right away, it's already gone. It's not liquid anymore. It's the same reason people use automatic withdrawals for investments, or enroll in plans like TSP that take $$$ straight out of your check. It takes the choice away from you, and removes the temptation to spend it. When you make extra payments on a mortgage, it all goes to principal. That means you pay less to interest on future payments and it means you are building equity.- 1,196 replies

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP

I was responding to the above post which talked about the possibility of the insurance company not paying you what your home was worth. I don't know if that's a potential problem or not, but I was just responding to the hypothetical. I understand your point more now, I just choose to put my money into a house that I can rent out instead of the broader market. I do put other money into the broader market for long term stuff. I just don't want all my money in the market, since it is so volitle these days. Different strokes for different folks.- 1,196 replies

If I'm the falsely accused... given the current witch-hunt climate of the AF, I would rather get tried in a civilian court.

I predict we will see more and more of these types of cases, because of the current climate. I can't go a week without some briefing from the SARC about how we all need to be on the lookout for sexual assault, and how women need to defend themselves from men who want nothing but to rape them, and how they ALWAYS will believe the victim... blah, blah, blah. We've created a hyper-sensitive atmosphere with this type of thing. Any wiff of indiscretion, whether credible or not, will end careers and ruin lives. Liars like the Lt Col's "victim" will automatically get 6-9 angry chicks from Congress immediately behind them, even when they are clearly lying. The truth doesn't matter anymore.

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
flyusaf83 replied to Swizzle's topic in Squadron Bar
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I only owned 10-20% of my home, and something like a housefire/flood happened, and the insurance company came up short... wouldn't you be even more screwed than the guy who owns 100% of the house? You would still owe the mortgage company, and you would be equally screwed by the insurance company coming up short. I would much rather be the guy who can collect all the insurance money and walk away in that scenerio.- 1,196 replies

Dang, what a tragedy. Prayers to his family and friends, what a loss.
